2. Evening all, So, over the past few days I've been in Brighton and on a visit to GAK decided to get myself a souvenir. After much umming and arrring I settled for one of these... It's gonna take a while to get used to it and even more so to think of how I'm gonna use it, but I like it. After we got home from Brighton I thought I'd shift a few unused pedals and try and trade them for something I might actually use. This resulted in me getting one of these little delights... Having tried all the bass ODs Nevada had, I moved on to a few guitar ones and found that I favoured this out of the ones I tried. Give me a few days with both and I'll try and do a proper review for y'all. Cheers, James
3.
I have a Squier Bass VI in the White, it looks ace and is really nicely built but I still can't find a situation that I can use it in! for that reason I would go for the Jaguar
This is my dilemma, I doubt I'll find an active use for it, but I don't intend on stepping to the plate and playing guitar. My logic is that with the bass VI is that I can have a bass that plays guitar parts. Both will aid with writing guitar parts, I'm just not sure what to pick.
4. Evening all, I'm torn between two and I don't know what to pick. Both are affordable, both would be used the same (not a lot really but would be nice to have for the sake of agony around on). Both have their own pros and cons, but for myself I'm stuck dead in the middle of the two. A Squier Bass VI or a Squier VM Jaguar guitar. I can't choose. Regardless of what I pick I'll be getting it in oly White. The guitar feels too small, but the bass VI feels bizarre. I like both equally as much as the other but I just can't choose...buying both is not an option. This afternoon I tried both side by side and it didn't help. Opinions... Cheers, James
5.
Beautiful bass I noticed on your build thread that you were considering adding bridge mutes. I did this to the same kind of bridge on one of my Blingray builds.........the parts are available from the EB website. I also added the allen-head bridge posts and gave it a string through option. http://www.ernieball...usic-man-spares
I was/am now, but what put me off was the drilling through the bridge plate bit.
6. The biggest change in sound was when I installed the pickup and pre. When I installed the neck, the sustain went through the roof and the tone was even and consistent throughout the fretboard. When I first put it on, it also got a brand new set of strings. The thought was put it together, string it to tension and after a few days make the truss road adjustments and add a shin if required, all I did was adjust action and leave it. A couple of days later I went to check it and not only did the truss rod not need adjusting, it was still perfectly in tune too.
7. Hi all, Ok, some of you may have seen this, or even have followed the build thread or the NBD thread. This evening after work, I managed to get a few shots of my Sterling Ball refinish project in the sun. I've decided to start an additional thread here so that anyone interested in seeing the Status replacement neck with a colour tint can find it easier...and I just really wanted to show it off if I'm honest. One last time, it started black, it's now blue metal flake, Delano pickup, East Pre, Hipshot ultralites and detuner and Schaller straplocks. With the neck, I was going to go with standard black with face dots, in the end I opted for their blue tint and no dots. I wanted to do another round of pictures as the neck tint is quite hard to capture. 11. Looks like I'm not going to get a nice outdoor in the sun photo today.
12. That's correct, they are Rotosound Nexus and I love them. First tried them to keep the black and white theme on the P and fell for the sound and feel straight away. Cheers for the kind words guys
13. I loved mine. Bought one on a whim and taught myself years ago. So much fun to play and one of THE most beautiful sounding instruments in my opinion. Sadly, circumstances changed and had to move it on though. If I had the money and space I'd happily adopt another one.
14. It's only bloody finished!!! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/263916-nbdwell-kinda/
15. Evening all, For a little while I've been working on a refinish/mod project. Back in December I picked up a Sterling Ray S.U.B with the plan to mod it. So although it was new back then, I've officially finished it this evening so NOW I have a new bass. When I picked it up, it was... And of those that would like to see the full process, the "build" thread is http://basschat.co.uk/topic/255440-nearly-done-stingray-refinish/ Those after a quick summary, it went... Install de-tuner, Install straplocks, Change scratchplate, Install, ultralites, Strip, Refinish, Rebuild, Shield cavities, Install Delano pickup (FE Model), Add push/pull pot (series/parallel), Swap stock Pre for a John East, Fit Status Neck. For those that haven't read/followed the build thread, a little while back I installed a Delano pickup and thought it was absolutely amazing, but I found with it that the pickup screws and mounting rings we're a little too small for my desired pickup height. Originally I told myself I can just order some longer screws, but I'm better off leaving it until the neck arrives. This way, the neck may be thinner and the longer screws won't be needed. This was a move that paid off. Now, originally when I ordered the neck, I was going to order a standard black MM Status neck, but as my tax rebate had just come through I thought I'd treat myself and opted for the blue tint. With much excitement I rang Status and placed the order...and today the neck arrived. Today I got home from work, opened the package like a kid at Christmas and headed for the garden. This way I could see how strong the tint was, because admittedly, I was expecting it to be really dark with just a slight hint of it. Honestly, I should've taken a photo of it in daylight (now that it's finished I'll take some tomorrow). After rehearsal last night, I decided to take the bass to bits ready for the neck fitting today, so as soon as I was home from work, construction started. Here's the neck in the right light in my room before installing... Any tone, any players sound I want, I can achieve. It was light as a feather and the balance was perfect. As for output, it was pretty good, not as hot as my passive P (in the pictures) but good. Since the neck arrived (bearing in mind I've only had a quick go at home so far), oh my word! I have created the ultimate bass (well, for me anyway). Sound, is awesome, perfect response and attack, the sustain is just brilliant. The pickup opens the whole range up, rumble, sparkle and everything in between. The preamp only adds to it (though I'll admit, I wish I bought the 3 band pre over the 2 band), the boost and cut available gives me modern tone, vintage P thump, modern P aggression, pre EB, late 80s/90s stingray, even some jazz bass sounds too. At first I was a bit sceptical about the costs on gear I'm unfamiliar with, but both the Delano and East I cannot fault and would recommend to anyone. And then the neck arrived, oh and the neck arrived and despite the delivery time issues, oh status delivered. Ok, I already loved Status necks, but on this? Bloody Norah! The base of the neck was considerably thinner so I managed to get the action even lower than on my P. The neck is dead straight (yes, I know I should have a little relief but I prefer the neck dead straight), the action is lower than a snakes belly and despite how low it is, there's snaps/chokes when wanted right up to really deep tones, not a dead spot in sight and the neck hasn't needed any adjustment (yet) despite coming straight out of the box. I absolutely adore this bass. I'm so pleased/excited about it I don't even know if this post makes sense. Hope you've all enjoyed it and if any of you are local to Portsmouth are more than welcome to try it out. What was an added bonus, is that I was expecting the neck to be near enough black with a hint of blue, but actually in the light, the neck is so vibrant it's near in a perfect match to the body. Assuming the weather is as nice tomorrow when I get home from work (and I have time), I'll get some sunlight/basses in the garden pics. Cheers, James

19. Well, I called status this morning and as predicted, it's not ready yet. Hopefully I'll get it at some point.
20. Afternoon all, I know there's been plenty of threads regarding fender and custom decals, but does anyone know of a site or seller supplying musicman decals? I've found one, but it's the old stingray decal and I'm after a modern day stingray decal. Cheers guys James
21. So, seven weeks after ordering, the status neck that's only take three weeks to make is nearly ready. Apparently it'll be ready by Tuesday. However, it might be as up until now every week it's been "ready next week" but we'll see. It's nearly finished!!!
