1.
There is a STUNNING Desert Gold one for sale on the Wirral, through UK Bass Gear North West on Faecesbook, chap called Geoff Davies. Unfortunately he wants £999 for it, whilst quickly looking on here in the for sale they are consistently going for £650/£700. White would be something VERY nice indeed, but thing is JBF, you would be looking for another one the week after you got it I really do think you have terminal GAS fella! Enjoy
My first Musicman bass was a Bongo in that Desert gold finish. Dual 'bucker too, one of the best basses I've ever played. I ended up selling it and straight after doing so they discontinued the finish 😔
2. Morning all, Loving how all this is coming along. Donald has done some fantastic work north of the border and I can't thank him enough. Now, I've been asked to go on tour with a few months leaving in June and although Donald has done an amazing job, I don't want to lump the decisions on him (unless you want to step up for a bit Donald). So, with that in mind, would anyone like to take over calling the shots when it starts heading south again whilst I'm away? It'll need to be someone with social media access and someone that has been following this all along (and therefore knowing what's best for the bass/relay). Could anyone interested please get in touch via PM Cheers, James
3. Morning all, I'm in the process of getting everything in order to go on tour and I've come to insurance. Previously I've used Allianz Powerplay, though I've noticed in setting up a policy that you're not covered if out of the country for 3 months or more. Do any of you lot, that has been on tour for this length of time (or longer) have any recommendations? All the destinations are in the Far East if this helps. Cheers James
4. Yep, pickups we're donated by Rosetti UK and kindly installed by. Barry at Street Level on Albert rd in Southsea. You not a fan of M8 penny washers Dave? Once again, thank you everyone that has helped make this happen. It's unreal. Donald, you're getting yourself quite the photo collection by the looks of things. James
5. Morning all, I've been asked to go on tour with someone and as a result, will require a flightcase. I've read through the flying with basses thread and asked around. I've had a few recommendations to go Hiscox, I like the idea behind the SKB bass-safe (but heard a couple of bad reviews) and I also like the look of the SKB iSeries. In addition to this, is there any advice you lot can give about playing abroad (Far East). I'm taking spare strings as I doubt I'll find Roto Nexus' over there (they said they had trouble finding slinkys last time), I'll buy a few decent cables to go with too. As for humidity, a status neck has always been on my want list, so I'll get one fitted before going. Many thanks, James
6. Absolutely fantastic BCer to deal with.
7. Afternoon all, Can't seem to upload what tracks I have, but for anyone that would like to have a little listen, here's some recordings they did before I joined that are in the process of being mixed. Have a listen and see what you think: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/j6vdmmd4bvloh8t/fB-n5lmVj7
8. Sorry guys, Yes, couldn't have gone any better. Great guys, driven, competent players and a great laugh too. At the moment it's myself, drummer, guitarist/singer and a baritone sax, but they're looking to expand by adding keys, alto sax, trombone and trumpet. As soon as I get some recordings I'll get them posted.
9. Unlikely for a while John as my family moved out of Ashford. Got a few friends up there I've been meaning to visit though so I'll get in touch and arrange something.
10. Mornin all, I'm rather excited today, not only because it's nice and sunny, but because I have a rehearsal with a band tonight. Assuming it all pans out nicely, it'll be my first solid lead since August. They're local to me, were established but are changing the line up, have contacts and are enthusiastic. All rounded off with a nice ska feel to it so rather excited and depending on how tonight goes, I'll report back and possibly post a couple of tracks to see what you guys think. James
11. Mornin all, I'm considering taking the plunge after years of wanting one. Back in college I played a six (Hohner B Bass VI, still regret shifting it), got on really well with it too. The one I've got my eyes on is a Bassmods K7, but restringing it with a low F#. Before I take the gamble, is there any 7 players down south near me (Portsmouth), so I can see if I can get along with one before ordering? Cheers, James
12. Afternoon all, Just a thought, I recently got some of the custom moulded earplugs. Got them from my local hospital, free casting, they keep hold of the moulds, make them and invoice you at a later date (though I still haven't received an invoice) and apparently it's something like £25 an ear. Anyway, I was wondering, is there a way of converting these into monitors? I remember reason something about this years and years ago, but wondered if there was a kit or something similar? Cheers, James
13.
Spaceman by Killers I Wish by Stevie Wonder
My old band used to cover "I Wish" as our closing track and everyone loved it. Great fun to play and a great reaction.
14.
'Hit me with you rhythm stick'
Same here
15. Evening all, Now, those who have me on Facebook, will know I've experimented with my necks recently. My precision had a maple fretboard and my jazz has one of those Ebonol fretboards. About a month ago I swapped the necks over to see how they matched up. Anyway, this evening I put the maple fretboard neck back on the precision. The weight has gone back down, the action is once again ridiculously low and it feels much better. One thing has puzzled me though. All the time the maple boarded neck is on, the electronics buzz like mad, whereas when the ebonol board neck is on, the bass is silent. Now, I could understand this had I played with the electronics, but just the neck? Surely the neck wouldn't make any difference to the basses earth? James
16. Morning' all, Put on a party hat and roll out the cake, the relay is a year old today. The following is the Facebook post for all those that cannot see it. If someone could whack it on the twitter site, that'd be grand. Morning all, The BC Bass Relay is officially a year old! On this day last year, I took the bass with me to my first gig with the wonderful MrBigStuff, playing at The Jolly Sailor in Southsea, Portsmouth. Since then, the bass has travelled all over the country, been in the hands of a few celebrity bassists but more importantly, been in the hands of the hard-working bassists that are keeping this relay going. Thank you so much to everyone that has helped out, be it arranging celeb meet ups, promotion, acting as a courier, everyone that has helped. Let us not forget the generosity of the Basschat members, who donated parts to get the bass up and running in the first place. When I first had the idea, I never imagined it would get this big, didn't have any idea how popular It would become. A year later, we've raised £1,872.88, in 2013 we made it into the top 5% most successful justgiving pages of 2013, several local newspaper articles and even made national press. I cannot thank you all enough for your continued help and support. Let's see if we can beat our target of £3000 this year. Many thanks James
17. Cheers for the help guys. My fav suggestion was the crusaders. Started watching you tubes suggested links, started listening to funk and now I'm watching Jackie Brown.
18. Some great shouts. Cheers guys, keep 'em comin
19. Evenin' all, Right, I'm in the mood for sitting down with a nice bottle of red, a Cuban cigar and a decent album. I'm thinking soul/funk/rare groove. Something no too fast, nice and relaxed, but with a definite groove, a nice tight bassline to inspire me for the next week when I get round to recording. Overall, a great album to chill out to. Cheers all
20. Big Birthday shout out to our Scottish Relay Correspondant Donald. Cheers for all the hard work and hope you have a good day.
21.
Anyone planning to take the Baton to the LBGS this year too? I wouldn't be able to look after it, but I could take photos of it with BC members and any celeb who might get hijacked for the purpose
With how things are going, I believe it'll still be in Scotland whilst LBGS is on this year.
22. Yes, as Len said. Everything North of the border is fantastic. Everyone that has helped is amazing and as Donald pointed out, if anyone can use the bass on the 16th for an "anniversary" outing would be awesome.
23. Well, happy new year relayers! For those unable to see the Facebook post, justgiving have sent me an email. The bass relay page is in the top 5% of the most successful justgiving pages of 2013! So well done, congratulations and thank you for all of your ongoing help and efforts.
24. Bass wise I've got me a spare set of Rotosound Nexus strings, but the heavier gauge which I'll combine with the lighter gauge and make a .40-105 set, a Haynes fender bass manual (a lot more informative than I imagined) and a Mooer Lo-Fi machine...just need to find a practice use for it now...
