Calling Bass Players in Scotland. Calling Bass Players in Scotland
Jimryan replied to Donnyboy's topic in General Discussion
Donald, as you've more of an idea of what's happening up there, maybe put a post on the FB too? Might help find a few others. -
It's great to see it back on track and picking up again :-) Greg, remember to use the FB page to promote your relay gigs and lots of photos too.

It's nearly hand over time :-)
There's a pick of it's current state near the end of this http://basschat.co.uk/topic/111721-black-basses/page__st__210 Cheers
Looks good, what left have you got planned for it? Get some covers for it...black ones I like the gold plate.
Hi Jim I'd love to have a play on it and you're more than welcome to pop down, I've almost completed a 59 ish P bass build, but not to level you've done on your jazz though.
Ok matey, next time I'm heading down, I'll get in touch. Thank you, too kind. Is there a thread for the P?
Nice! I definitely have to post my orange fretless Jazz... It also has Nexus black coated strings, and SJB-3 pickups!
Awesome...lets see it!
Looks nice! I don't usually like black pearloid pickguards, but this one goes really well with the orange. What preamp is in it? Are those Rotosound Nexus strings? How do you like them? I absolutely hated them on my G&L SB-2 and Cort B4! Thin and awfully dry.
Cheers buddy, According to Bassdoc, that's grey pearl, so that might be why you like it? The pre is a Seymour Duncan blackouts stacked model and indeed they are. I love the nexus strings. Really bright, and feel amazing. I tried DR coated strings before (neons and black beauties) and hated them both, sounded ok but the coating felt "sticky" and I kept getting friction burns. My only gripe with the nexus, is that the coating wears off ridiculously fast.

In passive, only the MM works, but when active, the whole thing is amazing, great precision sounds from the neck, and some great MM and jazz sounds from the bridge and when combined. It's a little heavy compared to my Precision, but love it. Tony, you're welcome to have a go some time. I need to pop down your way to deliver a bass soon.

The bass doc made me one for my jazz...with a bit of an alteration...
Maybe the record attempt title needs to reflect the nature of the record a bit closer . I think to actually have a record attempt you would have to do it at something like the bass show and organise it with agreed rules so that the criteria for playing was agreed , then have all the visitors play it and pass it on , but all at one location and on the one day within a specific time period , and then it can be suitably adjudicated , every entrant to pay £2 to the charity etc or something along those lines .
That's not a bad idea for at LBGS2014

The knobs have landed from Seymour Duncan and will apparently be with me tomorrow :-D So hopefully, they'll be here, fitted tomorrow night and I can finally get some pictures up of the finished product.

Does anyone play in an 80's covers/tribute band?
Jimryan replied to paul h's topic in General Discussion
I'm actually in the process of putting one together as there isn't anything but either rock cover bands or funk and soul bands. As a result I'm piecing together an 80's/cheese covers band. We've not even rehearsed once yet and been booked just on the description. -
Welcome from another Pompey bassist.
-
Is it not a possibility that he's actually special needs and he has his status because people think he deserves a chance?

Things you don't want to hear before a gig....
Jimryan replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
I was down to do a New Year's Eve party last year. Two weeks before we had an email from the promoter/organiser saying that the venue was only going to pay us half of what was agreed. We still agreed as we (Well, me) was more excited about the party. A few days after this, we get another email "yeah, the venue isn't going to pay for a band at all", and then finally, one week before the event the promoter/organiser lost contact so we rang the venue directly, who had no knowledge of a party, let alone a band that had been booked and didn't even know said promoter. -
Mornin all, So, I'm in the final stages of piecing together a new function band. All cheese, 80's and disco stuff. Got all the members, everyone's keen and then we hit our first hurdle...a name. We need a name. Now, I've always been fortunate enough to have joined bands that have already named themselves, but how do you go about picking one. It's quite a task trying to think of something half decent. James

Ok, this morning I emailed him. Just a basic one stating that I'm not willing to financially commit to this. A reply has come through asking if I'd still like to go to rehearsals regardless. The rehearsal is next Friday (not tomorrow) so I'll go along and report my findings.

Wasn't seeing red, just a basic reply matey.
Don't take this the wrong way but it sounds to me like you're not really committed to this project. As such you feel its a little cheeky to ask for funding because it's only starting. I think you are right. The artist should stump the money. You guys are promoting and supporting him. If he makes it believe me all you guys are dumped for pro musicians. I'd tell them to poke it.
It's not me asking for the money. I've been asked to play for this established guy, with recordings already, but if I want to play I need to contribute to the cost. If I had been in from the beginning then I'd understand that, but I've just been asked to turn up, play live and play on the recordings. Oh, and help pay for it now. It's not a case of not being committed, it's more a case of showing caution before giving commitment.
