1.
PM Bluejay and arrange a pickup PM Bluejay and arrange a pickup PM Bluejay and arrange a pickup The trick is that no-one is here to organise the relay for you , if you want it, arrange to pick it up, use it and pass it on , add the collection to the just giving page and thats it . so whoever is first up gets it
Love it
2.
If the bits are only small, don't sand it. Instead rub it over with the BACK of the sandpaper. I'm not sure if, with the pearlescent paint it'll look the business, but it will make it easier. Maybe you should get a pro job on the paint.
I considered a pro job, but the cost was too much and even with the mistakes and errors, I'm enjoying the process. It's fun and I've learned a fair bit...and I'm not even finished yet. The bits were small and sanded out quite well. Although I'd love a factory finish, I know it'll be sub standard, but I suppose that'll be half the charm of it. That said, it's looking really good up close considering I've had a go at it myself.
3. Ok, the humbucker arrived and although it isn't as long as the jazz rout, it wouldn't be THAT noticeable, so it's staying. Jazz at the neck, mm at the bridge.
4. I decided that the headstock was a little too black. Really don't want to spray that as well, it'd just be too orange then, but I had a nice little idea to break it up a touch... I've also place it together as a nice little mock up with the bits I have so far. The scratch plate will end up being a black pearl one (made by our very own bass doc), not black, but you get the idea... 5. Ok, it sanded out ok. Ready for next coat, no wind, fantastic, as soon as I've finished spraying the back move to the front, check to see if I've missed anywhere and...delightful, a gust of wind kindly covered the back. I'll let it dry and sand those out.
6. Another one is to see what acts are playing down here at the time you're thinking, if they're already local, they might be swayed a bit. Also depends on the artist. I remember Weller was down her recently doing acoustic stuff. I'm really curious as what the venue is, but I may have a couple of guess, one sticks out above the rest. As for filling the bill with smaller local acts, get in touch with either Nick Courtney, Ben Mills or both. They managed and booked Victorious Vintage and may even know someone to do the main slot. I would've suggested Joe Jackson, as he had a house in Old Portsmouth for a while down by Spice Island, but a quick Internet search informs me he now lives in Berlin. If you need any help, I'll happily oblige matey, I'm only in Farlington.
7. Ok, it turns out, you shouldn't follow the halfords instructions of apply another coat once one is touch dry. Even with a light dusting, it'll run and when pearlescent paint runs, it leaves a very visible trail of pearly bits. Hopefully, it'll sand out nicely and it'll be fine...if not, I'm going to have to strip it, go to halfords, and start again :-(
8. As above really. For my jazz bass project. I've got all the parts, just need a diagram. I'm going for: Volume, Volume, Seymour Duncan blackout stacked 2 band pre, passive tone, with a active/passive DPDT mini switch, with a stereo jack. James
9. And one to show the sparkles...
10. First coat is on...
11. No, this appears to be more of a bright orange. The can also says it's pearlescent. I thought it'd only be quite subtle, but it's actually really sparkly when the light hits it. Now that if no routing to do, I may well crack on with the painting today and post later. In regards to the pu's they're the same size on this squier.
12. Heheh...so...who got excited and ordered the bridge humbucker without considering whether the jazz PU rout was bigger or not? Slightly annoyed with myself for such a rookie mistake, but oh well. When it arrives it'll be returned and exchanged for a second jazz PU.
13. Well, my bridge humbucker was ordered this morning. All I've got left to get now, is knobs, scratch plate and a neck plate to match the one on my other bass. After the lovely sunny afternoon on Wednesday where I managed to finish the undercoat, I sprayed a small test patch on the back to get a rough idea of the finish... 14. If I had the money I would. My wages this week should be spent on parts for my current bass...there's a possibility I'll be swayed into buying it though.
15. Well, today, I got rained off of work and the moment I got home the sun came out. So, I seized the opportunity. I finished sanding the body down and managed to get the undercoating finished (I hope). When I got home from work, I also found that all my pots and mini switch had been delivered :-D
16. I used to have one and loved it. If this doesn't go, I may end up taking this.
17. I'm having a similar experience with my Jazz, but both of my pickups are neck size. I got in touch with Seymour Duncan support and they've told me using two neck pickups together will work and is quite a popular option. Not sure how/if this'll help, but there ya go.
18. Sorry it's been a while guys. Kinda had a week off. However, today I collected a parcel from the post office and found it's my ultralites, so the neck is now fully loaded... I've given the body a sand down, so nothing exciting, need to get some more primer though as I had less left than I thought, so I'll post another pic once I've got some and that's done.
19.
I am based in Buckinghamshire (Chesham/Amersham area) and I am interested to play. I don't play in a band but I do play in the Worship group at church so we might be able to get some donations from the congregation? So the deal is that I make a donation, meet the previous 'guardian' and collect the guitar, let people at church know what is going on so they can make donations, play it, take a photo of me playing it and then pass the bass to the next person? Let me know....
Pretty much. That and pictures of the handovers. It's been used for a church band before. They're just as import as gigs are.
20. I do all my own because I know how I like my bass set up. After my bass had some work done, the guy set it up and I hated it and had to re do it. I'm not saying he was bad, but why leave a personal issue to someone else? I always have mine set with strings as low as possible and my neck just shy of dead straight. Many would argue it's not right, but it's perfect for me. This is why whenever I leave the house with my bass, I've a large screwdriver, a set of precision screwdrivers and a set of Allen keys.
21. The bass is currently with member bluejay. If you're able to collect it this week, then it'll be best to get in touch with her.
22. Ok people, who wants the bass? Who's next in line?
