Unused Fender strings

These came on my squier jazz. I've owned the bass from new, out the box, so the only use these have had, was once when the bass arrived to check it worked before they were taken off. According to the fender page they are: "Fender® USA Bass 7250ML, NPS, (.045-.100 Gauges)" -
These are the pickups that came out of the relay bass. The P is a Kent Armstrong and I can't remember what the J is. I'm hoping the mods won't mind people bidding on this one bearing in mind it's the relay and the cause? Who wants a little momento of the relay? If the mods let this go through, I'll check this at 1730 next sunday and the highest comment gets it. No paypal payment, just a donation with the user in a comment on the justgiving page so the money is going straight to the relay. Lets start at £15

Ok then, so, if I want my passive circuit to have a nice, vintage, bassy and slightly middy sound when the tone is rolled off, what do you guys suggest? Just stick with a .033 as mentioned of any other contenders? Cheers guys

Aim low...avoid disappointment? :-p
Yep. Style A all the way! I have 4 custom basses now and they all wear Hipshot Style A's and Ultra lite machines (elephant, Y's and Lolli's) I know the colour your going for and it will certainly pop. My bass is a candy (gold base coat ) so depending on the light the colour changes intensity. Here's a shot where it looks flat, but you can see the contrast between light and shadow.
In the light, that finish looks amazing.
Sounds like an interesting project. Orange basses look great (but I may be biased) - here's my Overwater J5 circa 2006 Stu
I like that. Mine will turn out brighter. Hipshot A type too? Nice, that's what I've ordered. Got a black aluminium one coming in from the states.

So am I. There's an image of the finished project in my head, just need to achieve it now. It's so tempting to plough on with the paint, but I've learnt to fight the urges and let it dry properly first. One thing I have learnt so far, is that my heat gun helps the drying process along quite nicely. Unless my tuners turn up, I probably won't do any more now until the weekend, give the primer a chance to properly dry, then I'll fill and sand as required and then one more dusting with primer. I aim to start the orange coat early next week.

So, today I got home from work, and was pleased to find that my first piece of hardware has landed from the states. Not only that, it didn't get charged import duty. Horray! My hipshot D-tuner. I rarely play in D itself, but have one on my other bass and find it immensely useful. I use it more for getting an Eb quickly than anything else. That got fitted straight away. Just waiting for the set of ultralights to arrive now. So here I've got the D-tuner and a new black string tree... After tea, I went back into my little make-shift shed to finish the stripping. That was interesting. So far, the layers are as follows: clear gloss coat, 2x black coat and then a bizarre resin/glue coat. This turned out to be one beast of a filler coat. Once it was completely stripped, there's nicks all over the body. The strap pin at the bridge, I planned on moving this anyway, and it's just as well. Where the strap pin is, the body wood stops about 1/2 an inch away and is filled with something, but it's soft and won't hold a pin. Though, by this point, I doubt GAK will take it back as a faulty return. So, finished stripping, gave it a sand down and added quite a heavy primer coat, which I'll later sand down and re-fill any remaining gaps. As I'm not willing to leave the bass to dry overnight in my ghetto shed, I've hung it up in my room...and I'm not looking forward to the headache the paint will induce by morning. Well, I've spent the past two hours with a heat gun and the bass is now 95% stripped
-
Well, Yepmop kindly offered me the use of his heat gun, as has a friend who I'm seeing tonight. I won't have time to try it out tonight (seeing Bill Bailey ) but I'll have a crack at it tomorrow night and report back.
-
I found the Nitromors all of rubbish. I did it in the bucket first, then sealed it in a bag for a few hours, I still struggled to get the clear top coat off. I'm gonna ask around and see if anyone I know has a heat gun and do it that way. It has to be easier. After that, I'll be priming it (white) and as for colour? You seen the bright pearlescent orange ford fiestas you can get? THAT colour All black hardware too. As for the bridge, I'll have a think, it all depends on how long my new one takes to arrive. It's unbranded, just the squier stock one, solid though. It's weird, it's actually a 6 hole. 4 at the back, 2 either side in fender positions (so just missing the middle one) and 1 either side at the front.

I started a thread on plugs a couple of weeks ago recommending the alpine ones. They're in musicroom for £26

Evenin all, As some of you may know, I received a squier jazz deluxe iv about a week ago. In another thread I mentioned the best way to spend my cash on it at this stage, which I followed and purchased almost all the hardware. Today, I've started towards the refinish whilst I wait for my parts to arrive from the states. That's what it looked like when I got it. The only original parts staying, are the body and the neck (for now?). Walked round to homebase earlier to get some Nitromors, got home, and I deconstructing it... Near enough all the parts here will be up for sale soon, so let me know if anyone fancies any. I'll keep the pictures coming to show progress...or mistakes.
