the relay now has a FB page which I urge all BC FBers to join/like/whatever it is the kids say these days. www.facebook.com/bcbassrelay will be a good/easy way to upload pictures and keep track of the bass relay too.
-
To all those participating, please start following the relay page in the "events" forum stating the bass' dates and locations. cheers, James

Afternoon all, The first date of the relay has been confimer/announced. I'll be kicking the Relay off on Saturday 16th February. I'm performing at "The Jolly Sailor" in Portsmouth that night, with my funk/soul function band "Mr. Big Stuff". If anyone can make it, come on down, have some fun, have a dance and let the relay commence. Cheers, James

I'm aware of the price difference, especially with how I want one. Just cautious where I've never been able to try one. I've ALWAYS wanted one though.
-
I'd prefer new, but if there's a second-hand option when I get round to buying I'll take it (quality and finish being the deciding factor). There's no way I could afford both, let alone justify spending that much on basses in one hit. I know how I'd want whatever one to be, I've the spec already in my mind, I just can't decide :-(

Evening all, Usually I'm good and I'm happy with my precision. However, tonight I've been thinking about what to aspire to (like to have a bass to aspire to from time to time), and with my tax return in May, now's a good time to pick what one to aspire towards (as it'll take me that long to truly decide). My problem is as follows, I can't decide between a Bongo 4 (I had one in Desert Gold before they discontinued it and regretted selling it ever since) and a Modulus FB/FU4. The bongo's a safe choice, I've played one and know I like it. Love the looks and I think they're fantastic instruments. However, the modulus, I've never played one, never tried graphite at all, but love the looks. Biggest problem with the modulus, is that this is THE bass I've wanted since I started playing. I've always wanted one and always will want one. Thoughts please. Cheers, James
Good to hear that it is wired up and good to go
My soldering abilities are no where near as tidy as yours Francis, but its done now and good to go. I'll make a tracking/gigs thread for it, but it'll be making it's debut on the 16th of Feb at The Jolly Sailor in Portsmouth.

Cheers for the suggestions guys. Wasn't planning on forking out for tools and bits and my mate definitely doesn't want to. I've done the best I can with it.
-
Ignore the last comment. Turns out that my practice amp's sh*t. Run it through a proper head and it sounds fantastic. GAME ON!
-
Afternoon all, You'll be pleased to know that the bass is now all wired up and works. However, the neck pickup makes it sound like the amp has become a wasps nest, so I'm currently working on that.

My mate knows its shot to bits, just wants it made more playable. When I got it, arrows could be fired from it, it needed a shim (is there a limit to shim size?) a clean up, pickups needed adjusting, everything imaginable.

Afternoon all, A mate's given me a bass to make playable again. It's a squier P special from 2000 in shoreline gold, with a lovely Jazz profile neck that the original owner de-fretted. It's spent the past year in a shed. The truss rod is in severe need of tightening, but the Allen bolt has completely rounded off. I read another thread with a similar problem, and it suggested a Philips screwdriver. Tried that and that can't even get a bite. I'm determined to find a way and not admit defeat. Any suggestions? Cheers, James
I wasn't thinking in terms of planning the route , more of reporting it pictorally , IYSWIM , I will give it some thought and have a play .
I get ya. So kinda like using the little image tagging thing, tag it to the map location, and follow it that way kinda thing.
Whoever contacts the press or other information services, please remember to give them our web, Facebook and Twitter addresses and to give us (Jellyfish and me) theirs, so that we can cross-reference, tag each other etc., and spread the word further. Well done guys, good progress so far!
Nice one, with the Facebook and twitter links, are we talking the BC ones, or dedicated relay ones?

Also just contacted my local paper to try and help get some backing and publicity and help raise some more money.
Does anyone Know how to share Google Earth files? I can and will do a simple map trace like that in the first thread , but I was thinking I could do a google earth trace so that it could be followed in detail but I cant suss how to share the route on Earth or whether peeps would follow it at such detail , I could easily do the route and save as a picture and refresh that for each event . Any prefs Jim / Bcers ?
Not sure buddy. The google earth things a cool idea. Where there's no set route, I really wouldn't know what to suggest

Don't worry, I plan to make sure some goes back into BC. A larger portion to CRUK will gain more interest and a larger following. It's harder to set up a donation thing for BC. Originally I set up a PayPal account which everything could go into and split it from there. A justgiving page got requested so I set one of those up for CRUK, but you can't set up one for BC. One way to go about it, would be to leave all the text and justgiving donations to CRUK (no question about it, once it's done it's theirs) and any cash donations "on the nights" are split 50/50. Also, when its auctioned at the end, then it'll be split with the larger portion going to BC. That sound logical?

I've still not heard from Nevada and they're now ignoring my emails.

Songs that you'd love to play live but probably never will.

Evening all, little update. The pots that 3below kindly supplied today and have been fitted. Will all be wired up come the weekend and then it's ready to go. Also, cancer research have sent us a little collapsible collection box, which can go around and sit centre stage at the gigs along with a money allocation form (of which I'll make copies). Here's a little pic for now:
