1. Since cutting my gear down, getting my precision spec'ed and modded, changing my head over, etc you get the picture. I've pretty much eliminated all GAS I had. The other day I sat down to update my accounts and even when thinking of my self assessment rebate, still no GAS. Wrey! Then today, it hit me. I've lasted months without it, and today it's hit. I want this, that, I'll have your one of that, I'll just get one of those, but I really REALLY need that. It caught me off guard, I feel violated. Anyone else spent the best part of a year content with not having any GAS and then BAM it hits you? Any recovery recommendations? James
2. Ok, other than SX one (after one with a fender shape head), the Steve Bailey sig and the absolutely gorgeous (yet too expensive for me) clover aepiron 6. Who else, or what's the best and most cost effective way, to get a fender-esque 6 string jazz bass. I miss my old 6, but if I get another, I'd want a jazz style one, but obviously don't want one to cost the earth as I'm not in a position for a ludicrously expensive one. In the pas I've played, owned and seen plenty of thru-body 6's for between £300 and £600 brand new, surely a bolt-on jazz 6 shouldn't be THAT costly to knock up? Or am I too hopeful?
3. My cab adds so much bottom end, I usually have to cut some from the eq, it's still pretty deep though. Usually I'll eq specifically for the track though, instead of having an overall sound.
4. The just giving page is a good one, only problem with it, is the raised money wouldn't be able to be split between charity and the site. Not that all of it going to charity is a problem, I just quite liked the idea of some going back into the site.
5. Hehe Have you found what you're looking for?
6. Morning all. As per the poll, the bass shall be named...the BC Baton. Even more exciting news, my band has been booked on the 16th of Feb. We have a start date of the 16th of February. So if any BCer's are free on the 16th of Feb, myself and the BC Baton will be playing the Jolly Sailor in Portsmouth. We'll be playing a delightful set of funk and soul covers. See you there

8.
just use the capacitor from the whatever the pots that didn't fit came from? otherwise any normal 0.1uF cap will do
I could, but it's getting all new pots for its journey now, may as well treat it to a new cap too
9.
Higher rated pots suck more tone out of your bass it depends on the output of your pickups if you go too low with a high output it gets a bit 'all or nothing'. Caps are usually 45microfarad. The orange uns
That would explain why my P does that. When the MM pickup was installed, the guy changed all the pots to 500k ones and although the tone knob works, it's more of a master volume most of the time.
10. Yep, all passive. So I'm after 2 log pots, 1 linear, all split shaft but with a long shaft. What about the capacitor though? And the pots can be 500k can't they?
11. The bass requires some pots and I'm clueless. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/197041-help-with-pots-and-lectrics-for-relay-bass/ Anyone?
12. Technically mornin all, So, yesterday afternoon I sat down to install the pots into the relay bass. However, the shafts on the pots from my precision are far too short. So I'll need to get some pots for it. Just had a look online. Help. Lin, log, split shaft, knurled shaft, capacitors. Too many things of something I know little about. All the bass needs is two volume and a tone. I've got a spare switchcraft jack socket already. Can someone either tell me what the bass needs, or point me in the direction of someone that can wire the three together for the bass. I've got 3 black knobs that came on the bass, we just need some pots now. They're the missing piece of the puzzle.
13. The participants thread has had 821 views, but only had 45 people sign up? Who's not signed up yet?
14. So, in addition to setting up the PayPal, I tinkered a bit today. Managed to get the sticker glue off, would've installed the pickups, but couldn't find a soldering iron and the pot shafts are far too small, so I'll deal with those at the weekend. Instead, I've strung it up, adjusted the truss (will probably needing doing again in a few days though) and set the action to as close as I like it as possible, but might shim the neck come the weekend. Thought I'd show you lot another teaser. Well, only fair you get yourselves as acquainted as possible.
15. Should anyone wanna donate to the causes, the PayPal is now operational. It's set up under: [email protected]
16. Sign up here if you haven't already: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/196563-bass-relay-participants/
17. The route's not set in stone as such. I know it's starting in Portsmouth, that's about it really, where it goes next, who knows. Charic - there's a desperate "participants" thread, I'll post a link in a sec
18. As mentioned/discussed, a PayPal account accepting donations has been set up. The account is simply registered under: [email protected] I've tested it with a pound donation, and will send a bigger one when my wages go in on Saturday. For this, when taking on the bass, a minimum donation of a pound is recommended, but obviously the higher the better. If you can get punters involved too even better. James
19. Cool, the more the merrier. Don't forget to sign up.
20.
Dirty bastard.
Hahaha yep
21.
This could take years! Perhaps we could send a scrapbook with the bass and everyone can sign themselves into the book with their name, BC username and details of their public appearance with the bass? Include date, venue, band, genre maybe?
Great minds eh, already thought of that :-p
22.
I also took the frets out after the 12th on my first bass. It's a great thing to do! Well done to you, and the other BC helpers, this should be a gas!
Haha, the reason I did it is different though I imagine. I wanted to make a "slap fret" for my fretless (when I had it). I needed a fret and the easiest one to get out was the 16th one. It was only then I remembered that it would mess the others up. So then I decided it best to remove the others.
23.
The best degreaser is naptha (lighter fluid).
You could've warned me how difficult to find it is. For one I didn't realise supermarkets had been told to stop selling lighter fluid (just as well I don't smoke/use my zippo anymore). So, after reading online that naphtha can also be bought from painting and decorating stores, I thought I'd try that route. Homebase no good. One builders merchant, nothing. Second builders merchant, had heard of it, was quite helpful, but didn't stock it. Brewers painting and decorating place, never heard of it, doesn't exist. So much for doing that today. I'll try again at the weekend.
24.
You're all flippin' MAD!!!! I'm in. Just thinking though, this could end up being an administrative nightmare to organise/keeps tabs on. Why not let it take its own course. What i'm thinking is that BC Member A has the bass - uses it on a gig/rehersal whatever, has photos taken then uploads them to the thread. It is then up to him to contact someone local and pass it on. BC member B then takes the responsibility of where it goes next. Be interesting to see where it ends up.
That's pretty much the idea matey. The contacts and rough route planning are there to ease it along, but the obscurity of where it goes next is a big appeal to me. As long as it makes it back in one piece so it can be auctioned. Don't forgot to head other to the participants thread to sign up.
