I love the idea of this, so if it ever passes near my neck of the woods, I'll add my part and pass it along. I have a bridge and some pickups knocking around somewhere as my contribution!
Awesome dude, glad to hear it. The bridge is ok, PU's would be handy though.

Lurksalot...welcome aboard project relay. I hereby promote you to the position of tracer/navigator.
-
Ah right. So, in a nutshell, don't bother, wait until I can eventually afford a small, decent cab?
-
Wouldn't necessarily have to follow a list. Say I do the gig, no one local can collect and I go for a day out somewhere, post "I'll be going to so and so, who wants it" kinda thing, but a list as basic guide would probably help. The maps cool, would be good to watch it move around. Even more so if its a really impracticle route. I reckon this could turn out really interesting.
See if you can sell it to a boy racer & have a look in the "Cabs For Sale" section on here. Should be able to get something better for less than £100?
Good idea, but the driver's only £45ish new. As I said, it was only a means to an end. Needed a cab, needed one cheap and wanted it loud, Had the box readily a available and it all kinda came together from there.
means pretty much not worth bothering with.
How so? Sorry, the amp and speaker side of things really aren't my area.
What are the pickups, can not see from pic, I have various ones, will donate to this if suitable.
They died a while back so I took them out. All that's left in it is the jack socket and earth wire.

It's a legacy "predator" series speaker. True, I won't be doing any cutting though. Not all the time there's a joiner or a chippy on site anyway.
-
Though if someone could knock up a wee map that'd be quite cool
-
Not overly sure if I'm honest. Once it's ready to go, I'd guess; make a thread, anyone interested join/express interested once it's ready to move on, either announce gig location or where it can be collected from and then go from there. How does that sound?
-
Not really after altering the sound to enhance frequencies, just trying to make it more manageable. I know what you mean, there's a fair bit of science involved. For me its a way of having a cab when I can't afford to buy one.
-
Ahhhh I grew up in Copnor. Well, Baffins but the address was still Copnor.
-
I sorta did. The chippies on site built a concrete shutter, it wasn't needed so I pinched it, made a few alterations and hey presto, bass cab. The driver's a car sub. All I know about it, is its a dual voice coil (?), its 15", it's rated at 1400w at 4ohm and it's bright orange. The cab is ported at the moment. Xmax? Thiele small? That makes sense as at the moment it's really REALLY boomy. When using it, the eq on my amp has to have the bass reduced considerably, but the cab does a really good Motown kinda sound.
-
This could turn into the BC equivilent of the Olympic torch once it gets going. just no flogging it on ebay if it comes your way.
-
Evening all, I've been using my home built 1x15 for a while now. The cab itself is quite large and heavy, so was considering whipping out the driver and cables and installing them into a smaller, more portable, back friendly cab. What would the smaller dimensions do to the overall sound? It's currently slightly larger and deeper than a Marshall 1x15, I'm thinking of going down to something the size of a barefaced compact. Cheers
Count me in, My band don't currently gig a lot but do have one on the 24th Jan if it's ready by then?
Good to know matey, If I can get it up and running, you're in. Understandably, I wanna do the first gig with it. There's a chance I'll have one this Saturday, by we'll see. Just so I know, yepmop, where are you based in Pompey?
-
Cheers pete, I've got a spare set here though. Just need to whack a cheap set of PU's in it and its good to go. The old Set came out as they were no good and had intentions of installing working ones, despite never intending on using it. Either way, I think this idea is much better.

I remember reading about that. Wasn't the gnome returned with a suitcase of photos or something? Right, here's what the bass currently looks like (you can tell it's a teenagers first bass :-p), thinking of removing the stickers though so all could add their own little piece to it though.
don't forget to take photos of the bass being passed over.
Just thought that myself. Could be a fun little hand over, over a pint or something. And yeah, seeing it's travels would be interesting, even more so if one of us lot gets a recorded TV gig or something, that could be a laugh.
-
This is the one, well, kinda, mines got individual volume and tone.
I like mad ideas! This sounds great. Count me in. We'll probably need to establish some ground rules, particularly on postage costs. What about the sender/passer-on pays for postage?
I imagine ground rules would be fairly easy to sort out. The hand over and gig ideas are both great, postage only if absolutely necessary. I'm not overly fussed on the bass, but don't want it smashed to pieces. I'm tempted to strip it of the stickers on it currently to give us a blank canvass. I'll get hold of a cheap set of Pu's for it and then once if done a gig with it to start it off, this'll be underway.
-
True, but there's an awful lot of members on here that are local to others and/or get about a bit. It could work...COULD.

Evening all, BC member lojo's recent post in OT has helped me remember an idea I had a while back (no, not what led to the forgotten thread). My very first bass, a stagg BC300 (I think), it's awful, but did me good for learning. I couldn't bring myself to sell it. However, I could let it go for a fun reason. Say, a BC Bass Relay? Something simple like, play your next gig with it, post a photo of the moment in a thread and pass it on along with adding a wee sticker of something local. Is this a totally mad idea that Will never catch on, or is it worth it for a laugh?

Just got to hope I can grab one when I get my rebate through in April/may. Wanted one of these for years.
