I really don't like the look of the badass bridges, so I wouldn't be tempted by one of those. Where re-drilling is looking more and more like the only real option, I'm half tempted to install single saddle bridges and go the whole hog and have it made string through whilst I'm at it. A top load/string though choice would be nice I guess.

Retinal detachment? My brother had that when he was 16, not pleasant. Hope all gets sorted quickly.
Aha, you have discovered the drawback of the non direct replacement bridge! This will involve drilling new holes etc...not ideal. I would avoid this option - but then again I am a wuss. My advice: DONT break any strings (I have never broke a string in 35 years!).... and fit a Gotoh 201 for ease of replacement. Its a really nice bridge, every bit as good as the much more expensive Badass & a dead easy fit straight into the standard P bass bridge holes.
I'm ok on the string breaking front, not broke one yet. It's more of a precaution. I know that if one breaks, it won't be at home. I know it'll be whilst tuning up for a big show or something important. So ideally I'd like a bridge where I can restring it without the hassle of, ashtray off, restring, ashtray on. Just a quick, hook string on, tune up, and we're off. Hence why the 201 wouldn't do. I'm quite happy and prepared to re-drill, I was just hoping that there may be an alternative.
Will the replacement bridge still fit under the ashtray cover?
I'm sure hoping it will. There's a fair bit of room under the ashtray, so unless its a ridiculously massive replacement, then it should.

Afternoon all, I'm thinking of changing the bridge on my P. I play with the ashtray cover on, and I've realised that if I have a string breakage live, it's a lot of faffing to change it. Therefore, I'm considering a bridge change to one where the string hooks on/slots in (ie hipshot A type, sandberg, clover), instead of being threaded through the bridge. Most of the ones I've seen require 4 screws but my squier bridge has 5. Filling the holes and re-drilling is no big issue, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a 5 screw bridge that I could use as a direct replacement. Cheers, James

I've got a TC polytune mini and think its absolutely fantastic. Though, these days it rarely gets used as my TC head has a built in tuner too. In regards to the setups, it's amazing, I've used on my and when installing bass xtenders and it does the job a treat.
yep... and being able to take the chance if offered
Hey john, exactly that. I'm trying to do the same. I've been getting my name about and I'm now on the verge of over booking myself audition wise. Even if nothing comes from the auditions, as long as I've proved my worth, they'll stay in contact. A good thing a mate of mine told me, was "look at yourself as a musical prostitute" take any and every offer.

Another gig bag thread, but sorta different

Or, is it worth having a crack at this myself? -
Afternoon all, For a while now I've been using my hard case and love it. I can fit everything in it, except my second neck. So I was considering looking into get a case made that would accommodate everything. Then I had a thought, the case as it is, is cumbersome, so a larger one would be a nuisance. So why not a gig bag. I read a few of the threads recommending the likes of igig and mono and love the looks of them. What I'm after though, is does anyone know where I could have a gigbag made. That way I could spec all the pockets I need and get a nice bag I'm happy with. Ta

So far I've tried the digitech and really didn't like it, had a micro Q-tron and loved it but got fed up with the volume boost. I've always regarded the DOD FX25B as my favourite, love how unpredictable it can be, but hate the volume drop it has. Saying that, I no longer use effects so I'm now selling the FX25B in the marketplace.
Oh really? Why's that? i've never been that far south before, or really used public transport at all in england really. Worst part would definitely be that i have to commute by myself.
If you can make it buddy, assuming I'm going (probably will be), you could always catch a ride up with me.
I am thinking of making the trip across the pond to go to the show. I'll stay in my cousins uni flat (oh... joy of joys) in portsmouth, then get a train to london first thing on the saturday morning. Although there is still a question over whether i will be well enough to go or not. Hopefully i will be
Down my way then :-p and those uni flats aren't all that bad. I may...Or may not have been in a few :-p

Not been before but I'm seriously considering getting myself a ticket :-)

So, classic design (albeit slightly altered), and a great all rounder? I know you guys are sick of seeing it now, but... P bass looks, P sound, MM sound, a jazz sound is achievable, as is a fretless sound too now.
-
I've yet to put it fully into practice. I plan on getting a hipshot A type bridge to make it a great deal quicker. Obviously it's not a mid gig kinda change over, but I'm happy knowing I have both should I need one in particular.

Handy friend to have :-p shenker?

As I stated earlier in the thread, I've just the one bass. My second neck has now arrived so I've not got fretted and fretless available. Ch have got black, chrome and gold. I used them for all of the black hardware on my P. good service and decently priced.
-
Just traded a neck with Matt. Great guy to deal with, fantastic communications, neck arrived as described and very well packaged. Would defo deal with again.
-
It's not that I'm worried about...I also want a white de-tuner.
-
I recently had this debate and have settled on one bass now. Love it. So much easier and a lot less to worry about. As for the fretted/fretless, I've a second neck arriving tomorrow so I'll have a fretted and a fretless to choose from.

I had something similar, but the exact opposite. I got told I couldn't join a band unless I dropped my four and purchased a five... Because they drop tune.
