You lot want to get yourselves on the Hampshire bass bash thread. There's more and more PO postcode basschatters than I realised.

I've had a reshuffle this morning. Removed the PS-6, thunderball and Ditto (all in the sale section now) and swapped in my super fuzz boy and the gap in the middle is saved for a catalinbread Heliotrope. Afternoon all, Having just finished sorting out my music drawer, I've realised I've got lots of spares I don't use/need. Basically, I want them gone, if no one is interested in helping fund my new pedal, they'll go in the bin. Prices exclude postage and I'll give as good a description as my memory allows for each item. so... That's pretty much everything. 1 x four string set of tuners, I believe these came off of a S.U.B ray 4 - includes ferrules 1 x five string set of tuners off of a Harley Benton PJ deluxe - includes ferrules 1 x Set of SKB butterfly catches. These haven't been used yet. After I toured with a Bass-safe, I made a complaint as the latches would meet up with the catches and the case kept coming open and SKB's answer was to send more catches instead of a case that worked (they eventually did). 1 x Chrome string tree 1 x Hipshot (genuine) HB6Y-black tuner, it's the larger size. Was originally bought as a set of four and sparayed the ferrules orange and one was eventually replaced with a de-tuner. 1 x Hipshot (licensed) HB6Y-satin chrome, again, larger size. Was originally bought as a set of four and eventually was replaced witha a detuner. 1 x 500k Push/pull pot - never used. My plan as to give me a series/parallel option on the MM pickup on my precision. Never did, never will. 1 x Switchcraft jack socket - never used. Bought as a mate thought his bass needed a new one. Bought the part and it wasn't the problem and has sat in a drawer since. 1 x Stereo barrel jack - Was originally fitted to a squier deluxe jazz. 1 x Schaller style (not genuine) straplok pin and button - Gold 1 x Set of Schaller style (not genuine) straplok pins and buttons - Black 1 x Set Black flared strap buttons 1 x Set Chrome flared strap buttons 1 x Set Chrome rounded strap buttons 1 x Single Chrome flared strap button 1 x Full pickup set and harness. This came off of a Harley Benton PJ deluxe (I did a build diary if anyone would like to see it in situ before it was replaced. 1 x P, 1 x J, VVT, Jack socket, Knobs. I'll even chuck in a sheet of copper shielding tape. 1 x 5 String bridge - This came off my recently Harley Benton project 1 x 4 String bridge - Not overly sure, but the only thing it could've come off of would have been a Squier Precision 1 x Kent Armstrong PBO-1 4 string- I'll be honest, I haven't got a clue how this got here. I haven't taken it out of a bass, nor have I bought it to put into one. 1 x Pair of Jazz pickups 4 string - Again, haven't got a clue. The only jazz I've taken apart and swapped pickups on are the following set, so haven't got a clue where these are from either. 1 x Pair of Jazz pickups 4 string - These were from an Active Squier Jazz Deluxe. The preamp was active, but the pickups (I believe) are passive. 4 x Chrome push-fit knobs - If the harness goes first, so will three of these. 1 x Squier Neck Plate - only three screws though as I don't know where the last one is. Evening all, Being as they're getting not used, I thought I'd list these to fund something else. First up is a Boss Harmonist PS-6 - condition is as new and comes with box. Great pedal at doing what it does and tracks very well. If you're not after using the pitch shift, there's also a "detune" mode that gives a slight chorus effect and a few other modes too. It's only left the house twice, once was for a rehearsal (in pedalboard) and the other was in the box to show a mate. Next up is a TC Electronic Ditto Looper. Great pedal and acquired with the intention of getting back into looping, but never did (and probably won't) so it's up too. Again, as new condition but this time without the box. Trade wise nothing comes to mind. Anything weird or funky considered. The prices I've included below will include postage for a trade (well we'll both be posting won't we), but for a sale postage will be extra. Boss PS-6 - £SOLD TC Electronic Ditto - £TRADED Mooer Thunderball - £SOLD Cheers for looking, Many thanks, James
I just sprayed the pickguard on mine:
Looks great. Get the hipshot bridge and tuners from the marketplace posts and give it an all black look.
I got one of these a couple of years ago and didn't like the salami effect pickguard either so I covered it in adhesive vinyl just like you've done here with the headstock. Works a treat as a cheap way to change the look and easily changed again in future too. Worked so well in fact that I did it again with my SUB Ray to go from this: To this: Might be worth a try?
You know what, as I did it I thought using it on the headstock was a fantastic idea, but it never crossed my mind to use it on the scratchplate. I'll look to see if I can find some white pearloid stuff. As it would save me have to cut a sheet of plastic to suit. It's an annoying scratchplate as it's slightly different in shape to your typical fender one and if you look closely, the Seymour Duncan P pickup is smaller than the old one and has left a gap.
Great job. It looks fantastic and I'm sure that it sounds just as good Oh - and I say this simply because I forgot once - did you remember to solder-join and earth the shielding? I love that copper shield material....so, so much better than conductive paint in my personal opinion. Nowadays, I solder all of my earth wires to the shielding itself and let the spring washers do the job for the pots - means none of those horrible blobs of solder and trailing earth wires on the back of the pots
Nope, haven't yet and if I'm honest, completely forgot. Whilst doing it I purposely didn't do the scratchplate though as I had it in my head I'd be changing the scratchplate and there was no need to waste any copper. Cheers for the reminder though, it'll be done when I next open it all up.

All sounds perfect John. Your looms are brilliant. It's a shame they're not on show as your workmanship is amazing. Only criticism is that the second volume (mm pickup) pot is really stiff, but works fine. Just need to balance the pickup height and it's all set.

Just finished my latest mod project (red fiver) so here's my two...

Afternoon all, So, this afternoon Mrs Jimryan went to the gym which left me ample time to get some work done... All works fine, and all I've got left to do is adjust pickup height, colour the pole pieces gold (yes I'm serious) and play it. I'd love a status neck for it, but doubt I will. It'll need a new scratchplate, but that can wait. What's even better is mrs Jimryan doesn't even realise I've modded it and thinks it's exactly how I bought it. Cheers, James

Morning, As long as your careful you'll be fine. Mrs Jimryan has a Hyundai i20 and my upright fits quite snug going between the front seats with the scroll over my shoulder. James

And should anyone be curious as to the wiring (I say wiring but as it's a kiogon loom, I'll merely be soldering tips and screwing into terminals), I'll be following this drawing to match my other bass... A little heads up... In a current project I'm doing (Harley Benton 5 string P - build diary is ongoing), I wanted to fit a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound in mine. Prices do vary and I found Thomann to be the cheapest (about £120). Had a look online and noticed GAK's price of £170. Rang them up, the chap was very helpful and offered me one for £130 including next day delivery. With Thomann the pickup and delivery came to £131. Pickup is already here, saved a £1 and a delivery time. It pays to call and ask.

Morning all, Following on from leaving the bass with the neighbour... On Thursday, said neighbour returned my bass. Nicely routed and ready for shielding and pickup installation. Very pleased. Lovely guy (must get him some beers), really helped me out and saved me money on getting it routed (he said he didn't want paying). Anyway, Thursday nights are always rehearsal nights and I had an hour spare before getting picked up so I thought I'd start shielding it. A while back I bought a pack of A4 sheets of self-adhesive copper shielding tape. When I made the order, I ordered three sheets. Opens pack to start job...counts sheets...five sheets. Bonus. Unfortunately I got picked up much sooner than expected and only managed to get the bridge pickup cavity done. However, it does hide that it's freshly routed and thus more convincing to the missus that it was always like that. Today she's planning on going to the gym for an hour or so, so I'm hoping to get all the shielding done then. Along with getting the pickups back in. Including this that arrived yesterday... Once they're all in and shielded, she'll never know. Bonus. Also, little tip for anyone that wants the Quarter Pound pickup. Thomann are the cheapest, but if you don't want the wait, GAK will offer it for £130 delivered next day. Which, by the exchange rate the other day, undercut Thomann by £1 and it arrived the following day. I'll post some more once it's shielded. Cheers, James

Morning all, Yesterday whilst at work, a little present for myself arrived. A Raygun FX Super Fuzz Boy! Been after one of these since spotting one on an instagram post. For a while all the different colours were available, but I was after the original grey one. Yesterday, after waiting a few months, it finally arrived. I had a gig last night so only had time to quickly test it. This afternoon I'm hoping to incorporate it into my pedalboard and give a proper go. First impressions, wow. Love it. It's ballsy, aggressive and in your face. With a few knob tweets and the tone knob (on the bass) rolled off, you can get a great (and really fat) overdrive sound. I'll give it a proper test later and post my findings accordingly... Cheers, James

Evening all, Little update. During the week, I managed to win an eBay auction for a Seymour Duncan ceramic musicman humbucker...for £23! That arrived the other day and it's pretty much brand new (minus screws). Upon its arrival, I discovered that my neighbour is a bespoke kitchen fitter/carpenter. So, bass stripped of all parts, I plodded round his to ask a favour. He's keen to rout it and is doing that tomorrow. Not anticipating the bass moving this quickly, this morning I ordered a wiring loom from kiogon and that was followed by ordering a Seymour Duncan quarter pound pickup when I got home from work. So, order of works is as follows... Receive bass tomorrow (hopefully), Receive pickup on friday, Saturday I'll shield all the cavities and install pickups, Next week I'll receive the loom and fit that, Then everything will be done bar scratchplate and possible custom decal... And now that I've remembered I need to source a brass neck plate and get it stamped/engraved. Can't wait. Cheers, James

I agree with the comment on the Squier VM P. Had one years ago and they're brilliant basses. Nice and light too. I've Currently got a Harley Benton deluxe P 5 string (which too is passive) and again, fantastic bass but a tad heavier than the Squier.
Anyone Got one of those cheap HB basses? Thinking of getting a really cheap (half price of the Squier) Harley Benton fretless jazz bass, and replicerer tuners and perhaps pickups. Any first hand experience with them?
Like a few mentions before, I've got one and modding it in a build diaries thread. Great basses for the money. I grabbed a 5 string deluxe P. First move was strings and hardware. Just waiting on one of the pickups to arrive in the post. They're great project basses.

Sounds good to me. Count me in.
