I just bought an MXR Octaver from Alan. It was probably the smoothest online purchase ever, from any seller. Great pedal, well packed with all original documentation and purchase receipt and posted very promptly. I can't imagine being any happier :-) Thanks Alan
How much does the PLX1602 weigh...? Greetings Bassdriver - how's that Trace Elliot V6 and BF Vintage T working for you...?
Not as much as a V6 that's for sure. Loving it mate. Nice to see you. Will PM you in a while and avoid hijacking my own thread

That's all helpful, cheers
I wouldn't worry about using the 1602 with the "lower power" cabs. As long as you use your ears and the cabs dont start distorting then they should be OK. If they start to distort / amp clips then just turn down a bit.
Yes, better to have too much than not enough is kind of what I was thinking. Just because you've got it doesn't mean you need to use it all. I reckon these cabs will be well past the point of being loud enough before the extra power gives them any trouble.
I upgraded to a Powersoft and have been keeping my 1602 as a backup but think I need to advertise it on here.....
Heh heh, perhaps you should. I'm sure a quality item like that will be snapped up rather quickly
The vanderkleys are 600w aes each right? They should cope with the 1602 at least as well as the BF vintage, and might need it more too as they're probably a little lighter in the bass end.
Yes, 600w each. I think they'll be fine yes. Perhaps it's just the BF having a flatter freq response but I actually find the Vans not necessarily bassier of the two but definitely warmer sounding, until things get really loud of course when the BF will keep pushing out more bass when the Vans are running out. I haven't got to that point yet though. Need some bigger gigs

I'm looking at getting a power amp to use with my SVP Pro pre amp after the SVP power amp I was using blew several components mid gig and has been deemed uneconomical to repair. I'm edging towards either a QSC PLX1202 or a 1602. I'll be using it mostly with 2x EA CXL12s (350w, 8ohm). I also have 2x Vanderkely MNT12s (600w, 8ohm) and a Barefaced Vintage T (up to 1500w apparently, 4ohm) and would want to use these with the rig from time to time. I could bridge the 1202 into the Vans and BF. If I understand things correctly this would give 1200w into the 4ohm load of either the BF or 2 Vans linked in parallel. Sufficient I reckon but maybe too much for the CXLs. If I connect one each to channel 1 and 2 outputs with the amp in parallel mode they are only going to get 215w each as each channel will be driving an 8ohm load, or 375w with the amp in stereo mode and the linked cabs connected to one channel. I'm wondering if that will be enough for them. I could also bridge the 1602 into the BF which would probably be quite something to behold as long as I don't run the amp flat out, I might bridge it with the Vans too but keep gain below 1/2. The CXLs would get a healthy 325w each from the amp running in parallel mode but if I chose to run the Vans this way they'd only be getting just over half their rated power. I know speaker sensitivity plays a big part in things so this might not be such an issue. So I guess my question is, assuming I understand correctly how running power amps in different modes changes things, which is something I've only just been learning about which of these two amps would be most suitable to use with all these lovely cabs? The 1202 seems like it might do but might not give the CXLs quite enough power, or far too much. The 1602 seems like it would cope with everything as long as I'm careful bridging with the Vans. I'm edging towards the 1602. Would this be overkill? Do I need the extra power? Would the 1202 be more suitable, or would I be better to have a little extra power available for the future. Ha, maybe I'm just overthinking the whole thing I play some fairly large stages sometimes and I'm just concerned with on stage sound. FOH speakers take care of the room. The SVP 1500 was plenty loud enough with the Vans and BF although I never used it with the CXLs. Thanks for reading. Looking forward to reading some opinions.

Thanks for the reply Jez. You're certainly in the right place for the gig and from the vids on your bands site you'll be well capable of sitting with the rest of the band, just remains to see how much of the set you're familiar with. I just emailed you a list of tunes but I'll copy it here as well for the benefit of anyone else who might be interested. Cheers Here's the set we did last night.... Happy - Pharrel Williams Sir Duke/I wish - Stevie Wonder Jackie Wilson Said - Van Morrison Mustang Sally - Wilson Picket Sweet Home Chicago Handbags and Gladrags - Rod Stewart Etc Superstition - Stevie Wonder Olivers Army - Elvis Costello Rolling Stones medley (Honky Tonk Woman/Brown Sugar/Jumpin Jack Flash/Satisfaction) Chelsea Dagger - The Fratellis Valerie - More up tempo Amy Winehouse version The Snake - Al Wilson I'm still Standing - Elton John Ain't No Stoppin Us Now - McFadden and Whitehead Baggy Trousers - Madness My First, My Last - Barry White Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison Believer - The Monkees/Reeves & Mortimer + Wonderstuff Dakota - Stereophonics Sex on Fire - Kings of Leon Use Somebody - Kings of Leon Town Called Malice - The Jam Don't Look Back in Anger - Oasis Hey Jude - The Beatles We Are the Champions - Queen Other older stuff which could be put back in for a night... Centrefold - J Geils Band The Boys Are Back in Town - Thin Lizzy Teenage Kicks - Undertones Can't Buy Me Love - The Beatles Feeling good - Nina Simone/Muse Live and Let Die - Wings Get Your Rocks off - Primal Scream All these things - The Killers These are not all in copy key but I can let you know what's what later. Thought I'd got two players available already when I saw there were two replies here. Ah well, thanks for the replies. The Facebook group looks interesting Tony so thanks for that tip. I've applied to join the group so hopefully I'll be able to post on there soon. There must be plenty of reasonable players around that area. Surely one of them will be up for a quick £100. Meanwhile though please keep the gig in mind and if you hear of anyone who might be suitable put them in touch with me. If I don't find someone who can do this our keyboard player is going to have to put in some bass parts with his left hand and the drummers is going to throw a big strop. Cheers

Hi all, I need a dep to cover a gig on the 15th of March. My covers band has a gig booked but something has come up and I really need to be somewhere else that night. It's your usual social club thing so you'd be playing in between 8.30PM and 11 ish, 2 45min sets for £100 fee paid in cash on the night. Van travelling from Carlisle area will probably stop and pick you up if you're near the A66 or A1. There will be an EA iAmp 800 and 2 EA or Vanderkely 12s in the van if you want a lazy gig. Just turn up with a bass, plug in and play. The rest of the band are all good tight players, friendly guys with lots of experience. You don't need to be technically brilliant, just solid tasteful and reliable. I'll provide a current set list, possibly a recording. I have some older recordings but we've just revamped the set and not got round to doing any new recordings yet. It's all fairly standard covers stuff and if you've done a bit of function/club work you'll probably have played most of them before. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, or even if it wouldn't hold the slightest interest for you but you have nothing better to do that night please get in touch. You could really help me out.

I recently bought an EA CXL112L from David. The transaction was a pleasure from start to finish with friendly, helpful and informative emails written in coherent English with proper punctuation and everything The speaker was collected on my behalf by a bandmate who lives near David and it arrived with me at the next gig, looking every bit as good as had been described. I'd be happy to recommend him as a seller and wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again. Trade with confidence.

GK cabs sold! lightweight help please :-)
Bassdriver replied to Ant_On_Bass's topic in Amps and Cabs
I can also recommend Barefaced cabs. I have a Vintage T which is just amazing. A 2x15 you can lift with one hand, very responsive and sounds huge without colouring your sound. I also have two Vanderlely MNT 12s which are also lovely but have a warmer, slightly more coloured tone, are easy to carry and occupy less floorspace on stage, and two Euphonic Audio CXL12s. EA gear is really nice although the CXLs were discontinued a while ago but you occasionally see them up for sale. They are the most Hi-Fi sounding of the three but are not especially light compared to modern Neo cabs. I've heard good things about EAs later Neo cabs but haven't any personal experience I can give you. You could always have a trip out one day. Take your amp and bass to somewhere like Bass Direct and plug in to some different cabs to see what you like the sound of but if you're going to buy blind I'd go for something Barefaced. I'm sure you'd be blown away by one. I've never used any GK gear. I drive these cabs with either an EA iAmp800, an Ampeg SVP 1500w rack set up or a Trace Elliot V6 all of which sound wonderful through all the cabs. Modern cabs are amazing when compared to the Trace Elliot stack I used to lug around. -
Can it really be carried with one hand? What does it weigh? What are the dimensions please?
In a word, yes. I have a vintage T which has a tweeter so mine is slightly heavier than this. You look at it and see a 2x15 cab and expect it's going to be heavy. When you grab the handles on each side and lift the experience relative to that being expected is similar to lifting an empty medium sized book case. They are amazingly light and I can indeed carry mine with one hand, although the physical size of the cab makes it rather unwieldy to move in this way. It's also easy to move on the built in wheels. Just tilt it backwards and use the handle on the top to pull it along behind you. Good thing this one's in Margate otherwise I'd be straight round with cash to swap for it. Running two of these with my Trace V6 would be quite something. I'm still tempted though as I don't see many of these up for sale. Somebody please talk me out of it.

I recently bought some strings from Chris. He was friendly and easy to deal with and sent the strings very quickly. I'd be happy to deal with him again. Thanks Chris

My Ampeg is in a bad way. It would be a big help if anyone here had a copy of the service manual they could let me have. Google has not been forthcoming So I'm hoping someone can help. Cheers :-)
