1. If you do, maybe bring your rig along and you can check a few things out with your cab. I genuinely believe that's where the trouble lies.
2. .
Not sure about the SVT ll being 70lbs either..I recall that being a 2 man lift to get it on top of a fridge..
I got the wrong amp - I was one out!! It is Ampeg who give the weight so I would tend to be sure but certainly check the weight yourself. They're not light at the end of a gig!
3.
Haha! That phrase is cheesier than a cheesy thing with cheese on it, but I thought I was the only person to use that sort of phrase.
Doesn't that make you feel as stupid as a stupid thing that's done something particularly stupid.
4. Many moons ago I had a Peavey 1810 cab (1x18 + 2x10) and experienced the same problem, the top end was non-existent. I reckon you should look to change the cabs personally. I concluded they were a great idea but just didn't work. If you go to GAK and audition heads you'll not put them through your cab so you'll not get the sound you'll get at home. I have a horrible feeling you'll be forking out for a great amp but not find a solution to your problem.
5. Ampeg say 70lbs for the SVT2pro and Boogie say 45lbs for the 400+. Give your back a rest and get the Boogie.
6. I was on the verge of turning pro and read a review in a magazine which called it the Rolls Royce of amps and the best money could buy so I bought my rig without even hearing it. Not sure it was affordable or justifiable but I figured I should get the best there was. In reality it has probably saved me a fortune in GAS over the years so maybe a wiser investment than I thought at the time.
7. It does go down to 2 ohms as well. I tend to have the rotary controls on the same settings and use the graphic to adjust for room acoustics so I generally agree about the use of a graphic. Loads of other options with the pull deep and pull bright switches too. I was daft enough to spend £3k on a Bass 400 and 2 2x15s in 1989 but haven't ever regretted it. Should have kept the 2x15 I sold but that's another story.
8. As you see I have one and also it's predecessor - the Bass 400 (only 6 output valves - 6550's). Both are superb amps and the 400 has given 25 years of service without any trouble at all. Tone-wise they're brilliant but they do taking some living with to get the best out of them. You need to experiment with the tone controls to get your sound but, whatever your sound is - it's in there I guarantee.
9. Happened to me once. Great sound at the soundcheck but heard nothing at all other than the distant rumble through the FOH at show time. Took me 3 numbers to figure out the standby switch was 'off'.
10. Sort of thought an Adam Clayton would be based on his original Precision with Jazz neck bass with the chunk of scratchplate missing.
11.
Don't worry, no offense taken by me. Never been called naive before - was going to look it up in the dictionary but apparently it is not in there?
Neither is gullible - check and you'll see (ok, so it's an old one). :-)
12.
Hmm, sounds like a new quango is in order... ;-)
Is that somewhere between a quick-step and a tango?
13. My other half teaches and her school do this and every year they buy expensive instruments (clarinets last year and flutes this) which the children proceed to wreck and never touch again. It's a laudable aim for certain but seems to be a bit of a waste of money in practise. Have to agree that other life skills would be better targeted at much less cost.
14. Isn't it just? I can imagine so many people he knew would be wishing he had spoken to them.
15. width at narrowest point is 1050mm and length with seats folded is 1565mm and without the seats folded is 920mm - courtesy of Google. Dimensions: 45"H x 23.25"W x 17"D - courtesy of Aguilar (x 25 for mm) Should be an easy fit if that's the GS412 you're thinking of - with seats folded though.
16. I store them pretty carefully but never got the hang of the 'figure of eight' method so I have velcro cable ties at one and coil them up using the ties to keep them separate and easy to un-coil next time. I carry them in a two tier box from B&Q that has a folding handle and two wheels at the back. Nice little thing actually, very easy to use and plenty of space for all my stuff and the spares I habitually take round in case anyone else needs anything.
17. The distinction is surely the ability of the player and not the environment.
18. Poor old Rory, Jimi, Eric et al. Still, one must have standards eh?
19. Let me out-pedant you. They are not Wizard pick-ups now so Wizard don't make them (or anything else) anymore.
20. So, do you have enough responses to post your reason for the straw poll? I'm dying of curiosity here!
21. I confess - I thought the fee was so laughably inflated there was no need for an ironic smiley. Maximum fee around £300 but usually about £250.
22. I'm inspired to start on my lot after reading this. They're in for a shock!
23. Wow, we have it easy down here. 2 x 45's starting at 9, finish at around 11:00 with encores to about 11:15. I guess you guys that play longer are getting more than our standard £600 for these gigs?
