1. Jeff Beck for his absolute mastery of the guitar. I'm afraid Jimmy Page leaves me completely cold.
2.
The 9 quid extra are needed to pay business tax and rates. Something Amazon is avoiding via dodgy tax evasion schemes.
So £9.50 for a plectrum eh? Glad I use me fingers :-)
3. Born and bred in Pompey and live just north in Waterlooville.
4. You could also consider not charging me 9 quid extra for a set of strings in the shop when I have no need of any advice and simply want to buy those strings. I accept some difference to on-line but 9 quid is incredible (Rotosound). I was too embarrassed to walk out but that's what I wanted to do.
5.
Our dealer in the UK is Play Away Guitars: Play Away Guitars Unit W4, Knoll Business Centre Old Shoreham Road BN3 7GS Hove, East Sussex Great Britain Phone : 0044 01273 423950 Mail : "][email protected] Thanks!
That's an industrial unit and so unlikely to welcome potential customers.
6. I bought his autobiography last year and I have to say it's an amazing story. I would say his life became less interesting when he found fame.
7. Ah, so you're the other guy that bought one!! Good luck with the sale (I wish I had the money and the justification).
8. I have a couple of these and they really are superb basses. They are nice and light, have the brilliant Japanese build quality and have loads of tonal variation in them. If you're teetering on the trigger, get pulling and bag a great instrument. No connection to the OP, just saying that the instrument is well worth buying.
9. I am feeling very lucky as I have never stored my gear anywhere other than garages or outside (speaker cabs in flight cases) and never had any issue with anything at all - that's in 35+ years. Not to say there's no chance of any problem but it simply hasn't been my experience.
10. Not a great shot (and no 2x18) but you'll get an idea of scale.
11. That's a lovely bass. Those Japanese Fenders are superb instruments. Have fun with it and welcome to the club!! :-)
12. Thanks guys. Not sure about cool but probably capable of creating its own wind chill factor!!
13. Hi Jon, it certainly moves some air! It seems utterly incredible I got it for 62 quid on Ebay although I may well have the only idiot to want the thing. Your old amp is a beauty and does get a regular outing. Just need another diesel 2x15 to really finish it off (and another 400 or 400+ I guess). :-) Oh yes, and the right gig!!!
14. The difference is in the power stage. The 400 has 6 x 6550 power valves and the 400+ has 12 x 6L6 power valves. Having played both I reckon the 400+ is a little more detailed in the sound but the 400 has been my faithful companion for nearly 25 years and never ever let me down so it's my #1 amp. I'd probably use the 400+ to drive the 2x18 but I use that for festivals and other outdoor gigs - I find the 18's put back some of the bass you lose outdoors.
15. Ok, so here's the 'big' rig. Tend to only use the 2x15 indoors and 2x18 outdoors but one day I'll just take the bloody lot and sod the back row!!
16. I have to say I'm a big fan of flight cases. My main rig has been flight-cased from new (in 1989) and still looks pristine. If you do go down the 'real' route I'd think about a colour other than black. Backstage at a festival my red cases were easily identified!
17. That's a very interesting development. I have a '62 and a '70s and adore the '70s. I assumed mine were US pick-ups but the evidence would suggest not. Could be time to fit a genuine US pick-up or I might get a friend to have a nice word with Seymour (and I don't mean Butts).
18. Much obliged Beedster, I didn't feel able to use the words I actually meant so thanks for correcting me. :-)
19. Less if you tuck the D string back under the string tree!
20. I'm one of those daft individuals who is happy to cart around a Bass 400 (or 400+) and accept it as a price worth paying but I fairly recently bought an Ampeg PF500 (and matching 1x15) and have been more than happy to use that for recording or gigs where the Boogie rig is too big (physically).
