Not sure if I can be bothered to go back to gigging
wombatboter replied to BobVbass's topic in General Discussion
I used to gig a lot..played in around 100 bands around here in Belgium with some well-known names..I was very lucky and always combined it with a day time job.. Since a couple of years I hardly gig anymore...tired of the setlists filled with predictable songs, tired of the choices some singers make when the success fades, tired of the traffic jams, tired of being there six hours in advance, tired of the change in live music and the atmosphere (everyone staring at smartphones backstage instead of having fun, people hardly talk to each other like we used to and I have the impression that everyone tries to play it "safe", most of them just head home after the gig). I refused a lot of things and they don't call you anymore.. I still play at home and I try to keep myself busy with learning new things..It's weird but I don't miss bands and when I hear musicians complain these days and say how they miss the stage....I don't feel that at all. My life will always be filled with playing bass but the gigs are certainly not essential... -
Saw something by The Shadows getting reunited again in 2020 on YouTube and it made me grab my bass and figure out two of their songs (the other one is Atlantis)...Could be better in the performance but I thought the idea was entertaining

He says in one of the clips that he finds it hard when they ask him to double his lines in the studio since he plays very impulsive and doesn't really "know" what he's going to play.. He finds himself "like a deer in headlights" when they ask him to double his lines and he has to do that bar by bar.. Bit weird when you think of the possibility to write your part down and then read it.. Shouldn't be too hard for a seasoned veteran like him ?

Mr Pink - My Level 42 tribute band. Promo video.
wombatboter replied to doc40hz's topic in General Discussion
Great job, really not the easiest music to cover.. Been asked myself by a couple of musicians to start a tribute to Level 42 around here in Belgium but I found it too complex to reproduce. But this sounds really nice, congrats ..And like someone already said : King isn't the best singer either. -
