Id still love to see the nathen east 2 in the aqua colour with a quilted top like the original, i think that would be very special!!!

And they do it in mint green too fantastic, ive been lusting after a MG classic ray since they came out, but alas nearly 2k is not going to be available to me anytime soon !! so the ray34ca might be a viable option, a shame the green one doesnt have a maple board though i really would be foaming at the mouth!!! Lovely Bass!! buying vintage is not for me though!! im sure itll be a sound investment as these things will continue to appreciate in value over the years,( i wonder modern fenders will over the next 30 years, probably not!! ) which i think is a shame as they were made to played but i bet a lot end up in safes or sat in cases, what a waste!!! all of my favourite tones come from vintage fenders but if i had 8k to spend on a bass i want to see nice woods and state of the art electronics, i,d go for a nice fodera or a ken smith or alembic and im sure bernie goodfellow could make something very special for a lot less than 8k wether they will have the same allure in 30/40 years i dont know. Ill wait till i win the lottery and ill get one when 8k is just loose change

really really love it. i played a fretless Rim at the manchester bass day a couple of years ago, and had a lovely chat with robbie, a fantastic fellow and the bass was amazing, id never heard of them before, the headstock is very striking and i can see myself with a 5 string semi hollow version, great design!!

Hard to pick 5 as ive so many, but the ones that changed my perception of the instrument and whose lines inspire me to this day have to be 1- Abraham Laboriel - fantastic feel always a great authentic tone and technique in abundance and -never has to prove it 2- Louis Johnson- he is the man for me for slap bass, not a million notes just funky rythmic grooves and a tone to die for 3- Will Lee - just love his feel,tone and note choices a very funky man, his early playing is how a fender jazz should sound!! 4 - Jaco pastorious- we all owe him a great debt for setting the bar so high, a true genious 5- Chuck Rainey - when i first heard "greenflower street" it changed my life and everything else he,s done is just sublime TBH still a million other players to mention , he,s not on the list but when i first saw a picture of gene simmons with a pedulla bass that was the moment i knew i wanted to play bass, at the same time i saw Stanley Clarke and i realised thats HOW!!!! I wanted to play bass, that was 20 years ago and im still nowhere near great thread!!!

Been said already but pretty much anything by pino palladino in the 80,s for me "everytime you go away" ,"everywhere i lay myhat"and "tear your playhouse down" the latter with a boss oc2 doing its thing, its cool he,s reinvented himself, playing and tone wise (although im sure he,d say what he does now is more him!!) but i believe he brought a truly unique melodic voice to pop music, a lot of the gary numan/eagles/elton john/eric clapton etc stuff was pino too ( even lady in red by chris de burgh, and he ade it sound good) love him. John giblin playing with kate bush and another big favourite Tony levin,s playing with peter gabriel ( ive pretty much decided after owning three fretless jazzes in my time chasing Jaco, my next fretless will be a musicman!!)

For me "Abraham laboriels" tone on randy crawfords "you might need somebody" not 100% on what he used could be a fender P (he used to rent one i believe)or his goya panther maybe even a yamaha BB ( feel free to let me know if your 100% sure), it definately had flats on though, very warm and clear and the strings pops were nice and bright just lovely, totally diffrent to my sound, ive tried the p bass with flats thing and i love the sound on record but cant get into the sound coming out of my speakers

Oh and chris you are right too, if i had the cash for one of these i think i,d be ordering black hardware to go on it, at least its not gold, funny thing is every 5 string i end up with has gold hardware and i chuffin hate gold hardware need a black spector bridge, tuners and east knobs now!!

definately opens up some lovely chordal options!!! stanley clarkes tenor tuned 4 is A to C so would be a nice extension of that idea, but would be great on fretless to get into the cello range, def got me thinking now!!!!

For me it has to be the warwick p nut sig i love streamers and with MM J pickups a winner!! i used to have a yamaha nathan east sig, its was a stunning bass with AAAAA quilted top in a lovely aqua greeny blue colour, i loved it but stopped using it when i got my first warwick, so it ultimately got sold for nothing to help pay a tax bill I always loved the look of the alembic mark kings ( cocobolo HMMMM) and a special mention to the F bass Alian caron its lovely!!!
