Now thats fantastic!!! i must say its very high up on my wish list for a 5 string, i had a streamer jazzman 5 for a while a cracking bass with a great sound, i never did like the neck though , i love the spector/streamer body shape amd the MM J pickup system is amazing!! has anyone tried one of these?

Hmmm ive often thought of a fretless 5 tuned E to C , you could even put a D tuner on the E string for that little bit extra , i still wont make the jump to a 6 though

Theres not been any traffic on here for a while so ill add some pics of my latest baby!! bought with some of the funds from the sale of my ken smith its a 2000/01 spector CRFM 5 with a natural finish featuring an all maple body wings (slightly quilted) its also been juiced up with the fantastic east u retro deluxe preamp, it has the 35" scale and a great variety of tones, its mostly got a very modern hi fi kind of tone but the preamp adds a lot of deep bass and warmth from the passive tone, its very comfy to play as the neck is really nice and you dont even notice the extra length. BTW ive called her "Lana" after lana turner as she was blonde and curvy

I know,I'm sounding a bit harsh,but you come across as having typical teenage brashness,which although it has it's place right now,it will come as a huge culture shock if you get out into the music world beyond your school.[/quote] After 20 years of playing (12 years of which profesionally) i tried to think of something Sage like for the OP and everything that doddy has just said is 100% true so i dont have to think of anything, im retired now with a mundane job, ( i do still play for functions and am dram theatre)and i still remember the 19 year me who was an arrogant little so and so who thought he was "grade 8" standard, i had my ass kicked a lot and im a better musician/human being for it. At 15 your at the start of your journey and i envy you as i started out with a lot of passion as a youngster and i put i a lot of work, but unfortunately i got side tracked later on by drinking, chasing women, nice food , playstation as a result im not anywhere near the player today as i wanted to be when i started, so you need to keep doing what your doing and OP if you read one thing today read doddys and bilbos posts!! Ive no experience of the mono or protec, but i use an igig which marks doing a bass direct, i love it, loads of storage ( even room for a small amp, itll be snug though) reinforced body like the mono, has tons of padding inside, also has a neck pillow for keeping the neck secure, and a tough flap for covering the body inside, very sturdy indeed, and mines o funky retro tweed which makes me look like a "gentleman funkster"

Just bought the most gorgeous spector CRFM5 from Frank, arrived very quickly in a great case and packed superbly, communication was second to none and a more thoroughly decent bloke you,ll not meet, had a couple of nce chats with him over the phone, so im sure he,s made no money on the bass. Thanks Frank love the spector and im positive were going to be very happy together, your a gent - lee

Dont go mental pricewise, i case you dont take to it, going to a 5 doesnt take much time ut it will feel strange at first (and you might keep playing the B as an E) a yamaha TRB5 is good value ( especially the one just sold on here) the spector Euro on here is a bloody good price, ive just taking delivery of one absoutely gorgeous im dead chuffed- hope your search goes well - lee

My second deal, with this nice young chap, just bought his OC3 octaver, delivered straight away via next day recorded, i havent played it yet though coz i wast in and have to get it from the depot recommended!!

Just sold my beloved Ken smith to Rob ( the lucky fella) he paid almost imediately via bank transfer and showed a lot of trust in doing so!!! Great comms and a lovely guy to deal with and chat too, wouldve been quite happy to meet up for a beer and talk bass rubbish all day .
