1.
..........................Hey dude....Borrowed Alan James's JM5 whilst on Ventura; superb,but couldn't reach the 1st fret!!..Using a Paulman 5 right now - in fact I think I'll start a Paulman thread shortly...Hope you're well & looking forward a gig or two with Clive & CJ...mike
Hi mike I know its a great bass ive had mine a while now got not long after i last saw you, i would love that shuker of yours ive had my eye on these basses recently, if i had the cash etc etc, i have a strict one in one out rule with the wife at the mo, athough i very nearly sold three of my basses to get a sadowky ,i changed my mind im playing a lot of amateur theatre these days ( my time in richards band served me well, i ended up in the 7 piece for a while) and the four i have cover every situation, i did dabble with an NS WAV for a bit but couldnt play it and sightread . Have not played with clive & cj for a very long time, i occasionally do the odd one with them when they are home, in fact im doing a hotel gig with them next month, but i have a day job and a mortgage/wife/daughter the whole lotand couldnt be happier, hope your cool mate good luck with the sale its gorgeous - lee

  3.
No, you're right I was going to mention that! Louis did move over to Musicmans, but in conjunction with his P-Basses as well, especially on a lot of Michael Jackson and George Benson stuff.
Hi guys Louis johnson used a p bass early on, and had input in the development of the musicman stingray which he used on pretty much everything he did,(although i believe he used yamaha for a while) he shared bass duties on the micheal jackson records with bobby watson (from the band rufus) who used a 62 precision (on "rock with you") also he did the george benson stuff, as well as abraham laboriel who used either a p bass or a goya panther (very similar sound to a p). as far as i know bernard edwards used both musicman and BC rich eagle basses (both now owned by duran durans john taylor), but in those days as you correctly point out a precision was a session requirement, you cant beat a good jazz bass though!!! i love em!! al the best - lee
  4. Goergeous bass, i really like the clear pickgaurd!! i have a jazz and a musicman and love them dearly just bite the bullet and keep it and get a jazz,"you know you want too!!!!" all the best - lee
  5. Ive actually just put a justa nut 3 on my 5 string jazzman as the JAN2 broke, its a vast improvement in playability managed to get a nicer action out of it ,highly recommended BUMP!!!!!
  6.
Eeh...I remember auditioning with Thomas back in the early 90's down the Hoults estate. I think my hair was too short at the time - that's my excuse anyway. Oz (now with Nick Pride and the Pimptones)
Ha cool!! that would have been when i auditioned, i got the gig and had long hair!!! but they didnt like my bass ( an old ibanez musician) i didnt last long in the gig but it was a waste of time anyway, i went to newcastle college not long after, never met oz but i was in a band with nick pride for a while and a diffrent band with dave wilde from the pimptones, both great guys and fantastic musos, i miss them!!! cheers mate - lee

  8. I remember "rock city" very fondly when i was a pup of 14 years old i discovered the electric guitar, i had my school work experience coming up and i remember going in and talking to a nice chap called Jared (who i believe worked/works) for sounds live in newcastle and very kindley got me a place there for a week, it was the catalyst for my love of the bass guitar as i didnt know they existed prior to my visit, i remember i picked up a bass for the first time it was a yamaha if i recall and immediatley fell in love, but not as much as the gorgeous warwick six string streamer they had in all nicely lit and in pride of place, i suppose they were fairly new to the country then and i thought it was the most beautiful thing id ever seen!!!! ive played various warwick streamers over the last 11 years and that instrument was the reason, i was also very fond of a washburn acoustic bass which i used to annoy the staff with as i couldnt play it, i had a great time there and i was given a load of catalogues of warwick and kramer basses which i stuck all over my bedroom wall. That was 21 years ago man im getting old, sorry to waffle, just loved the story and it brought back a load of memories , i was also very briefly the bass player for thomas mcrocklin who i believe works at sounds live, bought a few thing there in the past always nice guys willing to help. anyway keep rockin my fellow geordies - lee

Taken during a recent production of "godspell" some nice 7/8 and 5/8 moments in that one. rita got to go out for that!!! This one was taken during "anything goes" in blackburn, unfortunately we look like the bloody village people, the things i do for amateur theatre, my latest baby Rusty was root fifthing for that!!! Me rockin with "ruby" And me with my beautiful 8 month old daughter Evie Lilly she,s sooo cute!!!! Keep the pics coming always nice to put faces to names- all the best - lee
  12. My favourite string has always been nickel!! i used steels a long time ago when my gear was less than stellar and wanted a brighter tone, steels just sound harsh to me now, for a very long time i used d,addario xl,s which are nickel plated steel and ive always found them to have a nice balance between warmth and zing as they have a nice brightness to them ( and are fairly reasonably priced) my favourite string for sheer quality of tone and balance is the DR sunbeam absolutely lovely sound and tend to work well with most basses, i know it sounds daft but ive found that some brands of string sound better on diffrent basses for example i used elites steels for a while and quite liked them on my jazz, but when i got my first warwick i stopped using them as i found the brighter sound of the warwick just didnt suit them IMO but when i put d,addarios on, the bass came to life. I am back using the d,addarios for financial reasons as i like to change them fairly regularly and having 4 basses means DR SUNBEAMS are just too pricey, will get a set for special gigs though!!! Anyway everyone loves the DR,s give em a go!!! - all the best - lee
  13. He was my first teacher too!! nice fella got me on the reading path which is currently standing me in good stead with the local theatre circuit, he introduced me to his wife with his affecionate nickname for me which was "f***PIG!!!" it would be nice to chat with him again and say thank you. I was later taught by Keith Peberdy who just a fracking dude!!! did wonders for me, Neil harland is a fantastic player and a canny fellow, visit with confidence- all the best - lee

    I'm off to NZ.

I Love NZ!!! Its a beautiful place, i remember going to a great little cafe in christchurch that had jazz on and did great pizzas, sat in the garden in the sun a lovely day!!!, anyway good luck mate i hope the work picks up so you can buy loads more posh basses, im a bit jealous actually i would love to relocate my family there, as my wife and i really fell in love with the place, i dont think NZ needs any bass players who work in banking but ont worry im a nice guy and im skint too!!!. good luck again crazykiwi - lee
  20. Just as a matter if intrest i have a cij 62 reissue Precision, are these the standard ones for this bass, if so what have you replaced them with, ive been looking for replacemants but hipshot/schaller are too big!! cheers - lee These were taken off a '04 CIJ Fender Precision and are slightly tarnished (the way nickel hardware gets after a while – I guess you could call it mojoed!). Other than that, they work just fine. The second photo shows the sort of tarnish I mean – it's not that noticeable in person. Come with bushings and screws. Note that these use a slightly smaller shaft diameter than normal – 12mm compared to 14mm used on other Fender style tuners. Hence, they require a 15mm hole for their bushings and so probably won't fit the majority of headstock holes which are drilled for 17.6mm bushings. The Gotoh product listing for them has detailed dimensions: They retail for about £50 new, so make me an offer.
21. My fave is tort!! so if your selling it on send me some pics, got a tort on my 62 cij reissue but i dont like it, its that modern rubbishy looking tort, and i want somthing more red, anyway i did get a vintage off white pearl scrachplate for my musicman which looks really smart and the same might look great on a white P, otherwise i,d agree with the gold adonised as i think they look great and im sure i saw one on here recently from "niceguyhomer"-good luck with the search - all the best - lee
  22.
I've got a bit of a thing for the "natural" look Left to right: 1989 Status Series II; 1992 EBMM Stingray; Fender Jazz CIJ '75RI with Marcus Retro and Gotoh bridge; 1977 Fender USA Precision.
Hi Derrick Lovely collection, just like myself youve got all the sounds covered, a jazz, a precision, a stingray, and a nice modern sounding status, nothing you cant do with those. Like the look of the gotoh, will definately get one for my precision, BTW i have nordstrand nj,4s in my jazz well worth the money i love em, my sterling has one in too, as soon as ive the cash my precision will get an np 4, good luck on the rig search sounds great what your after-all the best - lee ps - hope you like the octabass!!!
  23.
I remember years ago when I knew Kenny as a player. Bumped into one time and he told me he had started doing bass lessons - I said that I looked forward to hearing the improvement in his playing in the future - HE didn't laugh either.
BRILLIANT!!!!!
  24.
+1 I had one of these basses many moons ago (single p bass pickup)...... it was a stonkin' bass! Mart
+2 I had one too, the second bass i ever owned, it was al maple with a couple of rosewood stringers, with a single dimarzio p bass pickup, it had a really thin comfortable neck and sounded fantastic, and my dad bought it for me for £20 what a bargain!! i very foolishly traded it in for a sh*t hohner fretless, id have this off you but i like being married!!- bump - lee
  25.
Thanks Lee !. Have you got your HD350 yet ?.
Hi Kev Yeah ive got it now, its been well used but sounds fantastic, i love it , it will stay with me till ive the cash for an epifani ul502 (which will prob be about 20 years ) not used it in anger yet, but its going to be very busy over the next three months, a bit strange not having a valve in the preamp!, but the sound isnt that far off the td650 i used to have
