"Barbary coast" from the black market was always my favourite, funky as hell
-
Hi there read a thread with john east a while back, and he said it will work with a stingray ray5,(same switching as a sterling) but you would lose the gain compensation, so using the switch would result in diffrent volumes between series/parallel/single coil, which wouldnt be a problem for me as i only use the parallel setting. Very tempted by this for my sterling,(would go great with the nordstrand fitted) but by the time id bought chrome knobs for it,and had it fitted it would be too expensive at the mo, mind you, getting black hardware for my cherryburst sterling would look cool Anyone in the market for an EBMM sterling preamp so i can buy this!!!

Yeah John I know what you mean, the stingray/jazz tone just lends itself so well to that type of tone especially as those tones became the benchmark sound for that style i,e larry Graham(jazz bass) and Louis Johnson(musicman stingray). thats why those are my favourite basses, i must say im fascinated to hear that about warwicks as although ive played warwicks for 11 years ive only ever owned streamers, so i dont have an awful lot of experience with the other models, how would you say Dolphins fare for that sort of thing, ive admired those basses for a long time. lee ps sorry if i seem to be highjacking, but john is "THE" Authority on warwicks Hey Lee don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Warwick basses don't slap but from personal experience there are certain makes/genres of basses that can do it better. I've never tried to study or even begin to understand why some basses are better at it than others but as a rule I've 'generally' found that BO basses (at least decent quality ones) can by and large slap better than 'many' Warwick basses. I agree with you that 'old red' that we have both owned is an exception to the rule and there are plenty of nice snappy sounding Wicks out there but not all Warwicks can carry it off... and as you say there are basses like the Sterling (Stingray/Jazz) which seem to universally just nail the slap tone
-
Oh i dont know John! I always got quite a decent slap sound, out of your old red, mind yo it is a very bright sounding instrument, ive some recordings of some shows i did where the sound really surprised me . But then i did get a sterling off you which was built for slap My warwick streamer jazzman has a great slap tone, and is particularly warm sounding for a warwick. have a great weekend mate - lee If only it were so easy! I should qualify that by saying that I've found a BO neck Jazz (or Jazz style bass; Sadowsky Lakland etc.) to give that slap tone far better than a NT Streamer... of course it could just be me!

Hi everyone Youve met her before this is Rita (named after classic hollywood redhead Rita Heyworth) a 2003 Sterling in cherryburst with a nordstrand pickup (alnico magnets, for a bigger sound more akin to a stingray). The reason im posting this is ive just bought from our very own Rowbee a lovely vintage white pearl scratchplate, and ive took a few before/during /after pics of rita getting her new frock This is her with the original standard white scratchplate, its ok but it think the lovely finish, needs something a bit more classy. This is her Butt naked, a lovely cherryburst finish, i must say EBMM finishes are just incredible(IMO) and really put a lot of companys to shame, i will i think get a clear perspex scrathplate eventually to really show off the grain on the one piece ash body. SEXY GIRL This is the lovely new new scratchplate, i dont think my camera has brought the pearl out much though, its a lovely off white colour and i think it really complements the finish, def looks a little classier. So do you like her new frock, i think its the biz but a clear one would look amazing. Hope you like the pics, have a great weekend everyone - lee

Hi there!! When i bought my WAV i tried it through a littlemark 2 through a markbass 2x10 and it sound really nice the warmth of the littlemark really complements the high end of the piezo, it can sound a bit harsh through certain amps, i use an eden wt 550 and it sounds great but i have to turn the tone control right down to get that warm thud i like, ive never used a bow i meant to get one and learn but i never got around to it, ill be honest ive only gigged it a couple of times and there were a few flat notes, im fine just playing but if im sight reading with it, im a bit out at times . I must say i was very lucky when i got mine it came wih the same stand that comes with the CRM models, so ive not had any bother, i do think id like the endpin for though so i can sit down , i do fancy getting a five string CRM5 though i think they are fantastic. If like me your a fairweather upright bassist, the WAV is the way to go - all the best - lee

Wow thats a gorgeous lineup I can personally vouch for the Vantage, it was the second bass i ever owned, when i started playing, it is a dimarzio p pickup and it sounds fantastic mine was all maple and a superb bass, ironically i sold it to buy an ibanez musician which are just superb basses, if i wasnt skint id have both of them off you. bump for some lovely basses trust me the vantage has a lot of sound for £100 - lee That's a nice triumvirate of JapCrap, is that, I particularly like the Vantage, not too common on these shores. Wouldn't kick any of them out of bed for farting, though. So to speak. Jon. -
Dont blame you for keeping the warwick mate, ive not been able to sell mine unless i reduce the price to ten bob and a pickled egg, so im keeping it as ive played warwicks for 11 years and think they are great, just a shame they arnt very vogue!! at the mo. Congrats on the jv i have one and love it dearly, they seem to quite popular at the mo. All the best mate- lee being posted on monday. very excited and really really hope it is better than the P bass i just sold! oh er!

AAAAAAHHHHH good choice!!! its a beaut id like it if it was a 5 string, good luck with the sale mate- lee I don't get on with 5's I'm afraid otherwise I'd be very interested in your Streamer. I can't believe someone hasn't had it at that price. As for what I'm after, let's just say it's hollow and looks a bit like a telecaster
-
Well hello Howard! its lee muir here!!! Fantastic to see you on here, do you remember picking me up from gateshead metro station ( still nothing untoward, apparently his kerb crawling days are over) to fix a broken tuner on my ibanez musician, i was a pup of 18 then, and you kept my basses tip top for years after that, especially as i would usually turn up ask you to fix em in a week then id bugger off on a cruise or whatever the hell i was doing at the time. Im really glad your feeling better mate, its been far too long, i miss those smokey days hanging around the bass place, i was gutted to hear of its closure, many of our fellow basschatters will be thrilled to hear some of your tales. All the best mate- lee ps love the avatar, my old bass teacher Kenny potter used to have that on his teaching room wall, cool

I had some labella deep talking flats on my jazz for a while they were great but i went back to the roundwounds as i like bite with a jazz bass, if i ever get a precision it will always have flats i think its the perfect combination. lee

Well it just so happens, im in newcastle visiting my parents for a week from the 23rd feb, so if its around then ill definately be popping in, won t be able to bring my amp but ill bring a bass or two along and i dont mind chipping in a couple of quid for the room, let me know the dates lads. all the best - lee ps cant remember if it was bass octopus who wanted to try an eden head, if so if your there and want me to bring my wt 550 let me know!
-
HEE hee I KNEW it was gouche, or somthing like that id had a couple with some mates and couldnt spell, and im not as familiar with him as yourself, seen him on youtube bit of a monster, would really love to try the epifani stuff myself- keep groovin mate - lee I'm never fully settled. Trust me, I'm not as bad as some. And it's Andrew Gouche Lee. You summed it all up right there. As much as I love the Hi-Fi sizzle from my EBS, it lacks the warmth I hear in Epifanis.
-
Yeah kev the EBS is really bright thats why i liked it the td 650 josh owns used to be mine!, im dying to try the ul502 though i really think it,ll be my sound, and two channels is great so i can switch between EUB and EB , i totally understand why josh wants one ( sorry to highjack the thread josh ) Lee Ari's ul502 is a very good price for a fantastic amp. To my mind there's little comparison between EBS and Epifani, they're worlds apart soundwise. EBS is very bright, Epifani is clean and warm and bright in a different way, there's clarity there in abundance, but it's not like the EBS sound at all.
-
mate you change your gear like your knickers i suspect you have your eye on a certain ul 502 on here then, i do too!!, gig the EBS then tell me you want an epifani, thats where the sound matters!! massive bump for a lovely bloke with wandering fancies, who will be andrew crouche (prob spelt wrong)one day hope you get your sound mate- lol - lee
