1. Hi everyone My jazz is off to the tech tomorrow for new stuff to be fitted, so as of this week the current pickups and circuit will be available, Emg jv jazz pickups are the vintage style with exposed pole pieces designed to replicate the faded sound of a vintage instrument but with no noise, they are very diffrent to the usual EMG pickups as they have alnico 5 magnets ( as opposed to ceramic) and have a lovely warm fat sound with a very prominent midrange, they would actually be a perfect replacement for fretless fender jazz, particularly MIM or the Squire modified fretless jazz as they have a certain tone regardless of instrument i.e they dont rely too much on the sound of wood. Also an EMG BTS bass/treble on seperate pots,(it is set at vol, vol, treble, bass 4 pots) does what it says on the tin, it has two dip switches inside to set the treble frequency there are four to choose from, not sure what they are but info should be available online, comes with all pots and chrome knurled knobs, this system will really pimp up your jazz or any bass with jazz style pickups as i said would be great on fretless. Im after £90 posted for the lot, the pickups are £175 new and the circuit £80 so that sounds about right to me, giz a PM if your interested or need any info. thanks for looking- lee Will get some proper pics up when they are out and i have them, this is what they look like installed, i have a four control layout with a jack on the bottom which i like, i also installed a battery compartment, a dual concentric will be easy t fit and not expensive if you want to keep the three pot arrangemant and the battery fits fine under the control plate(but it is a pain when changing batteries which isnt often with the EMG,S low power draw). hope this answers any queries people have had these are a bargain and will benefit your MIM & CIJ jazzes.
2. +1 Abe plays nothing but nicely slapped minims on Randy crawfords "you might need somebody" and sliding down to a tenth double stop on "trade winds" just makes me smile a mile wide, i love Abes playing more than the 1000,s of wonderful musical talented bass players around in this world, he,s played on some muzak stuff buthe,s also done pop, jazz soul, funk, the man does it all, with a humble attitude and love for every project he plays on, his stuff for george benson and quincy jones is sublime, he is a classically trained guitarist (at berkely) and its amazing how he brings that rasguedo technique to the bass, i find his playing very inspirational and have always found great joy in his lines, and blow me his son is just as amazing as a drummer in the genes i think , sorry if im ranting but im a big fan. enjoy the music- lee Abe does it for me, I just like the guys approach and the way he fits incredible technique into the song so musicall
3. good choice I had a black badass on a jazz i had built by a Howard satterly in newcastle, it had a natural ash body with a birdseye maple neck with an ebony fretboard it was lovely regret selling it now, anyway they look fantastic i really like black hardware- all the best mate- lee *withdrawn* I've actually decided i quite like it!

Ive never in all my days playing known a music shop set up instruments i asume they think when you buy it you,ll set it up to your specs anyway so why bother. oh and our fellow basschatter is probably right a lot of music store employees probably dont know how too, i certainly dont and ive been playing 18 years, id rather pay someone to do it properly. Hope youve had a great day mate, treat yourself to a few pints and plan your next bass adventure. all the best- lee Who are PMT?

9. Absolutley right Gerard kenny did co write, i had the pleasure of playing with him a few times while in the house band on the cruises, a lovely fella !very generous with me regarding my reinterpretation( prob spelt wrong) of the written part i probably put a few more pops in than necessary had a great time very enjoyable. absolutely cracking tune!!!! LEE Infact it was Dennis Waterman's (ex)wife Patricia and Gerard Kenny who wrote the theme tune. Cracking tune though.
10. Yeah she thinks its purrrr fect , ha ha I see your cat approves of the rig Lee

12. Absolutely gorgeous I used to have a warwick streamer lx 4 in that colour, tempting, very tempting. Huge bump for this amazing instrument- lee some more pics
13. Yeah i know what you mean, sound to die for though, the days of the big rigs are numbered (thank god) Ian offered it to me but it would be just as heavy as the Eden so it's not a good idea.
14. Hi josh check out the lightweight, compact amp thread, its there!!, also check out the EBS proline 4x10 for sale i n the amps thread, highly recommended if your back can handle it, it,ll go great with your 2x10 ( thats what i wanted to do) keep groovin mate- lee Nice stuff mayyyyte! Though where are some pics of your amp Lee
15. Hi josh At least you know what your buying, as your getting another proline to match your existing one, bernies def your man though, delivery shouldnt be a problem and you wont have to buy a GB as ive heard they are very alluring( they certainly look it). not being able to drive is a bummer dont end up like me, being old and not able to drive ive been very lucky to have had a pro career as lond as i did without driving!!!. just imagine your sound when you have the two together, take care mate- lee Hence the hesitation, Bass Ferret kindly suggested it as well, but I doubt I could ever convince any family member to drive me out that far for something so "Little"
16. Many thanks, im sure your right, weve just enjoyed possibly out last weekend as a single unit, thats why im up late, im not going to work tomorrow as have holidays booked, cant wait now, need to see the little and know what it is. here's to fatherhood and woody string things- lee Be ready for the next 6 weeks to turn into one big mush. I have just fed number three and I'm off to bed. All the best mate. You will love it!
17. Ha ha Thanks for the kind words everybody, we dont know what we are having yet, i did put Geddy to my wife also otiel, abraham, marcus and pino but she,s having none of it apparently they arnt suitable names for a girl!!!!! sorry if i seemed to be rambling just a bit anxious at mo and found writing about my basses very therapeutic. cheers everyone- lee If it's a boy please call him Geddy! I am currently enjoying baby! Good luck
18. Hi pete cheers mate, i think i paid about £700 for it. i was really pleased at the time as they had not long been out and wasnt sure id get one without going to the bass centre, i saw an advert online for promenade music selling them and as morcambe about a 40 min drive i gave them a call, when you lookat the pics of the wav online they dont do them justice, i actually wanted a red one but was told there would be a six week wait, gary had an amberburst one in stock, or he could get a black one with a couple of weeks wait!, i decided to go down and try it out, and if i liked it id prob wait for a red one, well when i got there the amberburst is much nicer in the flesh, very classy looking! played it through a markbass rig and it sounded great, i even noticed it had the upgraded stand at no extra cost, so id be daft not to get the amberburst one . I did pop back to promenade about six weeks later and he had a black one in, totally the opposite looks fantastic in the pics not as good in the flesh, and the normal stand is not too great, if your in the area mate your more than welcome to pop round and have a blast, i do believe they are a bit cheaper these days so gary may be able to do a good deal. feel free to pop round anytime mate- lee Nice collection there mate. How much did the EUB set you back? It's something I might be looking at moving into when I'm more flush with cash. Oh by the way......I've now got the Multicomp box and spare screws at home, so I'll either pop them in the post or bob up next time I'm in Bolton. Cheers, Pete. P.S. All the best when the bairn arrives
19. Hey steve cheers mate, im very fond of it, im looking forward to getting the nordys and aguilar fitted, might get it back to its original sound but with a bit more oommpphhh, nothing like a jazz bass i love em all, definately need to add a nice precision to the lineup though, with flats lee Hi Lee some little crackers there. The Jazz is a beauty.
20. Hi everyone most people have seen this, but my Little girl Evie lily is now 6 months and i have a departure (NS Design WAV EUB, couldnt get me head round it) and a new arrival, so i thought id show everyone my basses as ive really enjoyed everyone else's threads, hope you like it and keep showing me your collections everyone 1982 JV SQUIER JAZZ- AKA -LARRY Ive had this bass for a very long time, i bought it 15 years ago when i was a pup of 19years old from a little shop called mckays in the west end of newcastle from a very dour man . Id recently discoverd Marcus Miller and decided i had to have a jazz bass so id sound just like him , i saw this in the shop as i walked to college and decided it was worth being late for my Aural perception class to play on this vision of fendery goodness, so i plugged it in and promptly fell in love, it was so comfortable to play and had that lovely hollow slap sound, so i struck up a deal with the shop owner to swap a fender strat and a hohner fretless bass for the jazz and enough cash for some new strings, lo and behold when i turned up the following day (after college) the owner had promptly sold the jazz to someone else . I forgot all about it, and about six months later im walking past the shop and i saw it in the window again, although it had been severly abused it was clearly the same bass, the lovely torty scratchplate had been replaced by a crap homemade white one and the b*****d had taken a sander to the headstock and destroyed the lovely squire logo leaving nothing but a dirty rough space were they tried to put a fender sticker . so i finally got hold of the jazz and returned it to its former glory ,Howard satterly( the bass doc) at the bass place got an original tortie one and although he couldnt get an original squire logo so he put a nice 60,s era fender one on and refinished the headstock. Unfortunately i did go through a phase of mucking about with it to get Marcus sound so i put a badass 2 on it and replaced the lovely original pickups with Emgs and put a circuit in, it still sounded great though and its been all over the world with me, im currently giving it a makeover ive had it fret dressed, a new nut and nordstrand nj4,s for it.(i still wont sound like Marcus though!!!) Ive seen a few old squires turn up for sale of late and can highly recommend them, but my bass was fated to be mine and ill keep it forever. 2003 WARWICK STREAMER JAZZMAN 5- AKA THE BEAST ive always loved the look of streamers and ive had a few diffrent ones over the years, when i first heard warwick were bringing this model out i just had to have one, The sounds of a musicman and a jazz bass on a Spector/streamer body all my faves in one bass. I bought it new from sound control in newcastle, and when it arrived from MAD it had a knackered volume pot and the jack socket crackled like mental ( two thumbs down for warwick quality control) so i promptly had it fixed and it sounded fantastic, mind you it doesnt sound anything like a musicman or a jazz , it has a little of thier flavour but it has its own sound with the warwick growl we all love/hate. really versatile instrument and ive used it in many musical situations, it has a big chunky neck which im not crazy about but you really dont notice it after a while especially as it sounds so good. 2003 MUSICMAN STERLING- AKA RITA Ive only recently got this in a very fortuitous trade with our very own Warwickhunt, shes had a few basschat owners and im hoping once again it is fated to stay with me as i think its a cracker, one piece ash body in cherry burst, maple neck and matching headstock, it has a nordstrand pickup fitted which is very fat sounding but has a great top end too(helped by the maple neck i think) its a complete slap machine and i love it to bits, ive always been a fan of the musicman sound but never owned one till now and look forward to gigging it very soon. i have recently added a vintage pearl scratchplate i purchased from rowbee and it looks great 2004 CIJ FENDER 62 RI PRECISION - AKA RUSTY My newest aquisition, in Fiesta red, bought from a fellow basschatter , it has a fantastic neck and has recently been restrung with D,addario chromes and set uo to perfection, it has a kent armstrong pickup which is ok but ill eventually put a seymour duncan in , also i think a hipshot vintage bridge and tuners are in order, sounds lovely though, after 19 years of playing its my first P i guess im growing up!! that thumpy sound is just so great, cant wait to gig it EVIE LILY MUIR I originally wrote this thread while anxiously awaiting the birth of my daughter, and found it very therapeutic, shes now 6 months and the most precious thing ever im very proud. Just thought id share my newer babies Hope ive not bored you all with my first novel, they arnt posh boutique types and not necessarily expensive (well the warwick was) but they are mine and i love em!!!! you may have noticed my cats keep getting in the photos, they are terrible little poseurs, please feel free to post your bass pics/intros on here. thanks for reading everyone- LEE
21. Hi everyone!! Have recently exchanged my EBS head for an Eden WT 550, so now i have a small head for the first time, its still heavier than most markbass heads mind. Not had a chance to use it in anger yet, but it has a lovely warm sound with enough clarity to cut through when needed. oh and takes up much less room in the car, so i can take the EUB. The mini rig Eden WT 550 & Accugroove tri 110 ( I have two of these cabs so i can get 550 watts at 4ohms, the head can go to 750 watts at 2ohms so ive extra power should i need it) Also both accugroove cabs together, ridiculously light, and sound massive, bit big compared to most neo 10,s as it has a 6" mid driver, but the overall sound isnt far off that of a 2X10. dont have any pics of the eden and both cabs so here,s an old one. keep rockin and heres to no chiropractor bills- LEE ps I cant seem to take any photos of my gear without my cats joining in, but as we all know 8 out of 10 cats prefer bass cabs.
22. How much more black can you get? none more black Absolutely stunning, i would love to give it a good slapping, i have a nordstrand in my Sterling and i love it, they are designed to replicate the sound of early stingrays so they are a lot mellower than the stock pickups, but still have a nice top end (especially with a graphite neck), ive tried lots of stingrays in the past and shy,d away from them as i found them a bit too clacky but always loved the sound Louis johnson got on the quincy jones stuff, but recently got my sterling and im firmly converted to musicman. Im raising a glass to the "STEALTHRAY" nice work Matt!!!!!-all the best- lee Gorgeous! Looks like the 'Ray version of my Retroactive... Bring it to the bash, oh yes, must have a spank on that
23. Hi sean, I will very soon be selling a set of EMG jv jazz pickups and an EMG BTS 2 band circuit complete with pots and lovely chrome knobs, ive just got some nordys and an aguilar circuit, so as soon as i can get my tech to fit them the EMG system will be available, will be looking for £95 posted for the lot. Send me a PM if you want me to hold them for you!!- cheers- LEE Hi, ive just bought a mexican jazz bass for cheap off ebay so im looking to buy some parts and upgrade it a little. Im mainly looking for the pickups for now and ill consider any but also looking for a badass II or similar style bridge, a preamp, and a either tortoise shell or black pick guard. Sean
24. Can recommend dealing with josh, top bloke and looking for the ultimate tone, massive bump for a fantastic cab at a great price. respect josh- lee ps have you got rid of the kingbass? I can vouch for the fact that the remaining cab is in fantastic condition - Josh is obviously being extremely honest in pointing out that the handles show some wear but it's really quite minor. Speakers, grill, carpet covering etc. are all in near perfect condition
25. My god that is beautiful very gorgeous grain on that body, i love the old squires they are great, i am in the middle of giving my jv jazz a makeover, fantastic quality, you owe it to yourself to put a nice tortie plate on that, congrats on a great purchase. all the best- lee Just got a delightful (if a little mucky) SQ serial Squier Precision, 83/84, great original condition - but it's arrived with the scratchplate shattered. The rest of it looks like this: Anyroad up, simple question, what, if any, replacement scratchplate will be an identical/exact fit? And wouldn't it look lovely with a Tort? :brow: Jon
