I did hear something about stingrays having ceramic magnets in the pickups and sterlings have alnico,!! i have a sterling and i love it the necks really comfy and i like the small body coz im only wee myself ;)and im also a shandy drinking weirdo so manly stingrays arnt for me, played an old stingray a while back and loved the sound but the weight and neck was a bit much(especially for 5 sets a night 7 days a week . the neck diffrence is akin to a jazz verus a precision. soundwise the same although the sterling has the series/paralell/ single coil swithching i personall y dont like the other sounds but the main stingray sound is all you need, mind you tried a double pickup stingray 5 absolutely amazing well worth a try. take care- LEE is that why you tried to get my white sparkle Sterling off me back in May? I've owned both and both are great basses. I'd say the Sterling is the better bass for me because of the neck profile and switching (single coil mode is a useful addition imo) but I'd be just as happy owning a Stingray

Wow thats one gorgeous stingray!!! love the birdseye fretboard!! Ive always loved the musicman sound as one of my heroes is "Louis Johnson" but ive always shy'd away from getting one, until a fortuitous trade with mr warwickhunt bagged me this beauty!!!!! This is Rita my new 2003 Sterling in Cherry burst with matching headstock and a nordstrand pickup fitted A total beauty im very pleased with it , i dont really use the switching just the parallel (i think) setting at the back for the proper stingray sound i dont really like the other settings, the grain in the ash is amazing need to sort some close up photos i think.Anyway keep posting those lovely rays, i particulary fancy an all natural double pickup sterling 5 ( i like the smaller neck and body as im a cissy) http://basschat.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/%3C#EMO_DIR%23%3E/laugh.png Lee

Holy cow!!!!! just checked out the G&L sound clips, thats an absolutely amazing sound, thanks for putting me onto these pete, i might end up selling my warwick after all, would love to try the all maple one, its got to be the one to have. all the best - lee In all seriousness, you won't be disappointed if you do. I'd not heard one myself either, til I heard a bass player who was gigging at the same venue as me. I thought it sounded fantastic, so I came home and started looking on the net. That same day, yorks5stringer was selling his. I couldn't believe the price they were selling for. It's now used as my main bass, ahead of my 91 Thumb 5 NT, Lakland JO5 and Fender Marcus Miller sig.

AAAAAARRGGGGGHHH THATS GORGEOUS!!!!!! I really wish i had the money for this, i can attest to the quality of these i have an 82 jazz bass, absolutely amazing, i had a chance to purchase a fiesta red precision many moons ago and didnt, huge regret, put some flatwounds on it and voila instant Pino Palladino, if i wasnt about to become a father in 2 weeks id have this, huge bump for a magnificent instrument at a good price. all the best - lee The colour is actually `Fiesta Red' and Jo rightly points out that it varies according to the lighting! More like the orangey red colour than pink....!

Likewise John should have done this ages ago (just getting into the feedback thing) Did a deal with john to reunite him with an old flame, and in return i got a great sterling which is now a firm favourite and def a keeper, lovely bloke and a complete oracle of all things bass (especially warwick) and a pleasure to talk to. cheers john- lee Greggs is 300 yds from where I live and the kettle is always on Cheers for a nice and easy transaction. Mate this is such a tradgedy. This is an early bolt on warwick, absolutley fantastically made and much much better than anything being churned out at the mo, the early fives have really great necks(wenge neck, available from warwick only as a custom option now) and the pro m pickup system is really versitile,(two seperate jazz pickups in one with seperate tone controls for each) if i could i would have snapped this up ages ago, any young players looking for a quality 5 string for an amazing price should no further, really hope this sells, mind you i want it . Huge bump for a beautiful instrument- lee

Hey Josh Dont like the picture your painting of the eden sound , EBS td650 and proline 4x10 best rig ive ever used period, and ive had a few, as mr ferret pointed out, the brightness can be eq;d out and it still sounds clear as a bell and warm, gorgeous really miss that rig definately my sound, not for everyone though. Just to say, I had a good 3 hour stint with pretty much the same EBS rig I'm getting very soon, a Neo 2x10 and Neo 2x12 and a TD650 head. I tried all 3 of my basses through it, and was 100% happy with everything I was hearing, it's exactly what my Eden isn't, it's bright, it's warm, has the sizzle and zing, and everything else in between. And at high volumes it was consistent and clear, as I expected. And it was pretty much with a flat eq, besides a little cut on the treble and the tweeters, and little treble cut on my basses. Even my King-Bass with some nigh on dead strings sounded good, but my 535 and SSII sounded perfect:-)

One thing Nathan east does(apparently) slightly grow your fingernails on your picking hand, it gives a slightly similar attack, i know when mine are getting a bit long, i can tell, just a thought- lee Thanks for the advice guys ! I think i'll look into the steel leather ATB Mar

Hi there The scratch on th front is the worst one by far, all the other dings are very small, like all basses get when they,ve been used professionally for over 5 years ( 5 sets a day 7 days a week), the coloured oil satin finish on the LX basses is quite soft and easily dinged, and try as i might a fes small dings are inevitable. Regarding the sound, i also own a musicman sterling and a 82 squire jazz and the warwick is totally diffrent it has its own sound, but the overall bias is toward the sound of a musicman, you can split the humbucker into single coil then use it with the jazz, but it doesnt sound owt like a fender jazz, more like the traditional warwick sound( like the LX with 2 x MEC jazz pickups, the MEC musicman humbucker does have diffrent outputs when switching between series/paralell mode, not sure if thats the norm on these basses, im sure other Basschatters can verify this, i do tend to favour the paralell setting mixed with the jazz, this gives me the best of both worlds,, if your wanting crisp slap sounds, it can do that, it does have a very warm sound for a warwick , more so than the all maple bodied (the jazzman has a swamp ash body with a figured maple top)which prob has more bite for slap, it has an MEC 3 band EQ which to be honest i usually keep fairly flat, a bit of bass boost and a little mid cut, and it sounds clear well rounded and modern and ive never had trouble cutting through very large bands(well im always being told inm too loud ha ha ) To be honest im talking myself out of selling it actually. Hope this helps mate- take care- lee ps will reply to your pm as well! Hey Lee, I've pm'd you now. I thought after sending the message that the questions I've asked might be of interest to other potential buyers too, or at least you can all laugh at me for being a goober and asking dumb questions! You said there's a few dings on the bass, Is the big scrape above the pickups the worst one? I'm assuming that it wouldn't still be there if it were just a case of polishing it out, right? I know the Jazzmans (Jazzmen?) are really tonally varsatile, but I'm not much of a knob-tweaker (oof!) so how much like a Fender Jazz does it sound without much tweakery? I mean with centre notch/all one way adjustments and so on. I'm not bothered if it doesn't sound just like a Fender (what would be the point?) but something of that ilk is what I'm after, I like a nice crisp slappy sound to cut through the mix. Cheers! Microbass 2 sold, you guys know you want the WAH 1 - lee Hi everyone new house and imminent fatherhood has devastated the coffers, so up for reluctant sale are a couple of my lovely toys. first off EBS WAH 1 volume/wah- as the title says its a dual mode pedal, has a range control for diffrent wah effects and also features the fantastic tube emulation circuit, must admit it sound fantastic but ive not really got much use out of, with the gigs i do, but it always gets a stomp in jams, very solid quality piece of kit. £85 posted EBS MICROBASS 2- The swiss army knife for bassists, includes channel switching, DI , preamp in one box, great sound basically a two channel version of the HD350 preamp, great for juggling two basses, or EUB as it is the only A/B switcher with a high impedence input, so works great with piezo pickups. it has a headphone socket for silent practice, effects loop, tube simulation, the works, once again not really got the use it deserves i bought to use with my steinberger, but ive kinda bottled gigging with it( i will eventually, too lazy to practice ). few of these for sale at mo, sign of the times, id like - NOW SOLD!!!!!!!!!! thanks mark EBS UNICHORUS- bit gutted about this one, triple mode chorus/flanger/pitch modulater, amazing rich sound, especially the chorus setting, doesnt thin out the sound at all, and has a little trimpot to control the amout of dry/effect in the sound, really lovely- £80 posted Sorry about the dodgy pic, its only temporary, the BOSS BCB60 will problably be for sale as well if these go, can power up to 8 pedals and very sturdy, The EBS octabass is not for sale, i love it too much. Hope you guys recognise a bargain,,all these pedals are in great nick as have not been used much no offers please, thanks for reading - lee
