Thank you so much! That's really helpful, but just reading this, has given me a headache and is making my teeth itch. I think ill wait, until they've sorted out the bugs and go back to my numerical system 😂

Goodness that sounds like a faff! But as I want the preset names,it's going to have to be done. So you need to manually type the names in? Is there a YouTube walkthrough for the process? 😁

Cool! Have you done this yet? I'll get mine updated😁

Dave Wilson is one of the finest fellows ive ever dealt with. I've had a bass that was re finished by Dave and it was stunning. I believe he used to do the finishes for Overwater, if I had the cash, my jazz would be winging its way for a surf green with matching headstock jobbie 😁

Haha yes!! With just the 5's Lots of Warwicks,Ken Smith, Spector,Musicman. Still come back to Yamaha (TRB, BB) the 424/425 are the best value basses I've ever used.
-
My first 5 string was the BBN5! Great little bass, as i recall i spent about £400 new vack in 1996. I liked it so much I bought the first Nathan East signature about a year later.

Recently bought a BB 425 from Mark! Lovely bloke and great comms. He gave me a great price and happily delivered halfway, so I could get it sent on from a friends. Bass was in great nick, and he's highly recommended. Thanks loads Mark 😁

I regularly gigged a sunburst 424 with flats in a rock and roll show, and was very happy. That being said I did sell it to buy a P bass 🙄😂

That would have my interest! But massively overpriced.

Thought I'd leave something on here for Mr Travis. I've been friends with Andy on here for well over 10 years, and chatted long before that. I've dealt with him many times, and he's always been unfailingly honest and I've gone to him many times for advice. I recently bought a yamaha 5 string from a lovely bloke on here, and as delivery wasn't an option he delivered it to Andy on my behalf. Now not only did Andy travel to Morecambe and deliver it to me in person, he took the time to clean and oil the neck, give it a full setup and even sourced some Yamaha straplocks for the bass. An absolute gent of a person and I'm very privileged to count him as a freind😁 Thanks loads bro I owe you one!

I'm pretty certain, that basses are sent out like dogs dinners, as manufacturers don't want to spend the cash employing someone to set up every bass. They will assume the setup would never be right for the potential buyer, who will get it done themselves. And yes, I'd imagine a lot of stores would rather you pay them £50+ extra to do what they should be doing in their "Showroom". And don't get me started on paying extra for high end cab covers or even gig bags on expensive items😂

That's beautiful!! I suppose "Mystic Surf Green" is a more marketable name than "Metallic sage" 😂

Well yes! You're spot on with that. Buying the DMC meant I could reduce the number of synthy fuzzes I had (just down to the Mastatron) and even my little bit crusher, I also didn't replace my Analog filters after i sold them. Used the money to get another bass 😁
-
I've recently bought the DMC micro to switch between my presets on the C4. I was a bit sick to see the pro had cone out,not 4weeks later, as id much prefer to see the preset names, Its not worth another £50 to me though. As it stands I've got my most used sounds as the first ones, and I'll literally write the patch number next to any tune that needs it on my set list. I was slight miffed at first at having to spend another £99 to get access to a decent number of sounds, but I'd definitely recommend you get one.

His design has become quite iconic! Despite it's starting as a "poor mans" Alembic. John Diggins has made other types of bass. I once played a jaydee Jazz with EMGS it was fantastic, but really heavy. There was once a bright pink Jaydee Stingray for sale on here many moons ago! That was a sight 😁 And the Calibas was an extremely gorgeous bass.

Chris kindly answered my Ad for am EBS Microbass. Fantastic communication and a lovely bloke to boot. Very fast delivery and some of the best packing I've ever received. Pedal was like new and well priced, very pleased indeed. Thanks so much Chris, you're a gent 😁

Lol! A couple for me One was cocobolo Overwater Perception originally sold by the wonderful Molan. It's current owner has had it a long time, and has put it up for sale, then withdrawn it twice 😂 Another was a seafoam green Japenese P bass, with a mint guard, that was on here many yes ago. Our very Clarky was selling a similar one not too long ago,and I foolishly didn't jump on it.

When i was touring and playing anything from 2-7k venues (Not always filled 😂) I was using a powered Bergantino IP112 (1k watts) with an AE112 extension, with a 3 leaf enabler pre. It was too bloody loud, and I had it as quiet as I could and still got complaints. I went direct with a small wedge monitor controlled from the desk. Didn't sound anywhere near as good as the Bergy but no complaints and I could hear myself fine 😁

Slight Clarification to that part of my post! The fenders I had were on a bass Id bought, but chances are they'd died down. I still found them medium tension, definately a middle ground between labellas and TI, I didn't keep them on long, as I put EB cobalts on that bass. Tension is subjective 😁
-
I've tried a couple Labella Deep Talkin - very stiff to play and a very deep, rich thump. Very punchy and warm, no highs at all. Very smooth windings and lovely to play, classic P tone. They have a low tension set too, which have the same smooth feel and a similar tone, but very pliant and "Bendy" very easy to get about on. D'addario Chromes- once again quite stiff, and you can feel the wraps under your fingers. They have a very prominent high mid "clank" to my ears, but smooth out to a punchy thump over time. Great strings for rock. Ernie Ball Cobalts- these have a very low tension and are lovely to play, almost similar tension to the same gauge rounds (slight difference) you can feel the wraps on these, but not as much as the chromes. These are the perfect strings as a gateway to flats, as they have a bright tone, reminiscent of slightly worn in nickel roundwounds. I've recently converted my old jazz to passive/vintage specs and I intend to put a set of these on it. Thomastik Infeld - my faves! They have a very low tension "loose" feel, that many don't like, but a breeze to get about on.the wraps are fairly smooth so nice under the fingers. They have a very sweet bright tone, but a very tight bottom so initially don't have The thump of other flats, but darken over time. It's a quality tone, as you'd imagine from a company that primarily makes strings for orchestral instruments, I have these on my P bass. Fender - these have a medium tension and have a fairly smooth feel. Not much in the way of highs, but a decent warm thump, sortve how you'd imagine a flat would sound like with a P bass. There's nothing wrong with these strings at all (I think they are made by GHS or maybe D'addario i could be wrong), but I found the tone a bit "meh"🤣 but they are the cheapest of the bunch (that I've tried, the Adagio may be cheaper), and I'd certainly recommend you try these, to see if you like flats. A bit like trying Whiskey for the first time. If you like it, then many more flavours of flat avail able😁
