Bass that has the "P" cut through but with a slim neck?
mingsta replied to Pirellithecat's topic in Bass Guitars
Second hand sadowsky metro HPJ. Its got a j neck and plays real nice! -
I've got a Bongo 5HH and it's a great bass, but whether it's right for you really depends on what you are after. I'd also consider a Dingwall NG3 in that price range. They've introduced a six string this year. I tried one a few months back and it's got a similar vibe to the bongo (big, tight and punchy sound that'd be perfect for cutting through in a rock/metal gig).

Three musicians at their absolute peak...and Anthony Kiedis. I've enjoyed everything they've released since, despite their flaws, but BSSM will never be topped. I don't think I'd be playing now if it hadn't been for the inspiration I got from this album.

60% of us want to recommend what we have, 30% want to talk gear porn, that just leaves 10% in the game for offering genuine practical advice and where's the fun in that?!?

Rcf, Yamaha, QSC all make good kit. But I'd have a think first about format before looking in to brands and models. A common solution for a gig worthy vocal PA would be 12 inch active tops, no subs. Keyboards add a different slant as they can occupy a fair bit of bottom end depending on what parts they play and how well trained you have him/her.

Tonight’s gig is cancelled....because...
mingsta replied to Thunderpaws's topic in General Discussion
Mind boggling. But surely the gig could have carried on without the sound guy? Most bands have at least a couple of members who know their way around a sound desk and PA. -
I've been downloading Jon Willis's patches off his Facebook group, the man is something of a wizard and a heaven send to lazy gits like me. He's done a few synth patches and they all tracked great. I thought it was only analogue pedals that have tracking issues, you shouldn't have any issues with digital like the stomp, right?!?

I'll listen to songs over and over when we are learning a new setlist. But once it's bedded in, I rarely go back unless it's to prove that pesky singist wrong on something!

Marcus Miller Sire Bass guitar feedback?
mingsta replied to Chrisbassboy5's topic in General Discussion
The weight will be a lottery, though from the two lighter r ones I've encountered) both around 9lb have both been ash. Find a friendly dealer who might be willing to check out the weight before purchase or buy in store. -
Marcus Miller Sire Bass guitar feedback?
mingsta replied to Chrisbassboy5's topic in General Discussion
Quite a few threads on this already, but great basses for the money. They can be a tad heavy at anywhere between 9-10.5lb+ if that's a problem, go somewhere like Andertons and pick a light one! They've got some new colours coming out which look great, but don't know if those will be hitting the UK. -
In the EB era, the early to mid 90s rays are considered to be good. I've got a 94 2eq and it's the business, though a bit heavy. The latest rays with the roasted necks and neo pickups look like pretty handy. But MM have been pretty consistent and I can't imagine there's any dud years...

my custom bass nightmare (literally)!
mingsta replied to skidder652003's topic in General Discussion
For 13 grand you must have had one made that was "recrystalised using nature's power". -
Lake placid blue with tort.

They do exist, or close to it. But you'd have to go somewhere like Andertons and ask very very nicely if they'll look in to it for you. Mine five string VV7 is 9.2lbs and I chose it above the Gen2's partly because it was the lightest they had on the shop floor. My mates just bought an 8.9lb four string off ebay

Recrystallised using nature's power, apparently

For £100k+ it's disappointing that so many pubes got under the lacquer. sbxizis5jvzrj2h3fcw9.webp -
Thing about the click track is that have to be disciplined as a band and totally follow the drummer for tempo. If other band members start pulling in a different direction then he either has to go with it, in which case he's got this annoying click that's out of time or he has to try and pull you all back. Messy!

Yup, midi files and a good android or ios midi player should do ya. Its my main tool for practicing our setlist at home. While it won't sound as good as a proper recording sans bass, there's a massive catalogue of midi files out there on the net, I've been able to get virtually all of our 50+ setlist on midi.

I used to lose my concentration and/or have trouble getting in to the zone if we had a rushed setup or if something about the sound or monitoring wasn't quite right, but the more gigs I've done the more I just roll with it and accept that things don't have to be perfect. I've been known to drop a few notes when ladies infiltrate the band space and start grinding us, but that doesn't happen all that often.

If we could somehiw link this to brexit and how has causef the declining standards in the high street, this thread would be closed in a jiffy.

Only good experiences to date. I'm middle aged now, so of course I get treated well, but I noticed they happily let the yoots try to their hearts content at the shop.

Haha! 4-4-0-0 for me. Shame our singer has moved up north, which means we only gig half a dozen times a year now. Oops correction 4-3-0-0 as you can't be a friend to herself! 😪

Have a look at bearstraps, he makes custom straps for not much more than an off the shelf jobbie. Really thick, nice quality leather that will last you a lifetime. I'll put up some pics of mine when I get a spare moment.

Sire P7 Gen2 will be awesome and leave you plenty of change off a grand
