1. I saw a Beatles tribute a couple of weeks ago and the bass player was right handed. It got me thinking. I fancy learning to play left handed, just for a challenge. Anyone else done this I think I have heard that the Beatles, let it be, west end stage show only uses left handed Maccas now you thoughts, fellow BCs
2. I have a Vintage 'Geoff Whitehorn' strat type guitar. Made in PRC. It has a 'Prize Fighter' bridge pickup. (it's a Bare Knuckles Crawler clone) and you can make it single coil by rolling the bottom tone control off. Wilkinson pickups all round (2 x single coils + the Prize Fighter) Geoff often plays in pubs locally and I know him well (he even used my range of amps at the London Guitar show, whilst guesting with Phil Hilbourne). He plays his signature guitar a lot. It's standard apart from he's changed the pots and wiring, to make it more robust. I bought mine because I was interested. It's a great guitar. I have better guitars, sure, but they didn't cost £200. I also have a 'Slash' AFD Gibson. I bought it because it supposed to be a limited edition. It became my main guitar for 4 years. It was just a great Les Paul, I'm not a Slash fanboi but I like his playing. Would I want my own signature bass, not really. I play a bog standard '75 P bass apart from a Schaller 3D bridge (when I'm not being Sting in the tributes). It may be bog standard (apart from the bridge, I only changed it because the bridge saddle screw were digging into my hand) but it sounds and plays fantastically well.
3. just for the record, I use a PF500 into MB cabs. My first PF500 failed after about 6 or 7 gigs. My current one (touch wood) has been fine. A great sound and I've been gigging it for a couple of years now
4. What is this............rehearsal that you speak off?
5. my old '75 P bass sounds brilliant with whatever. I love it with new strings, grindy and growly, then as they wear it still sounds the same but with less twang. Eventually I break one and change the whole set. My hofner cont 500/1 sounds fab with flats. Utterly perfect in fact.I haven't done enough gigs with my bravewood Sting replica to know what it sounds like with old strings, although it did get showered with rum and coke at a gig and it killed the strings and it wounded awful but I suspect that was the rum n coke.
6. Police tribute here and I'm going to see 'The Secret Police' very soon. For people who say, 'I don't really get tribute bands' I don't really get average originals bands, who can't write decent songs. Remember, entertainment
7. The modern crop of Vintage guitars with the Wilkinson hardware are all very good. Pickups are particularly good. I have a Geoff Whitehorn signature and it's great
8. I've got a CC2X with blues. It sounds ace. I don't use it, it sits in the studio in the corner. Occasionally when I plug it in I think, damn I should be using this. But I stick with my WKZ Little Devil 1x12 combo. (handbuilt by Mr Martin Kidd . The Cornford designer and former bandmate)
9. The walnut bass sounds slightly glassier. Much like how a maple boarded strat/tele compares to rosewood. Both sounded great though
10. great player
11.
I've never played any of his basses but once did have a nice email chat with him about Ibanez Musician basses (he likes them).
I bought one of his MC940s from him. It's a corker
12. I had one of the lawsuit style basses. Used it in a Jam tribute. It was excellent. Looked great and sounded very good. Wish I hadn't sold it.
13. I don't know about the serial numbers but I've seen 2 of these and they weren't numbered. Either way I only paid just over £1500 so limited or not, it's still a good price. Used it last night and it does sound good. Totally different to my P basses but still loads of clout. Looks great too. Lots of sustain and a nice growl
14. yes, having a cuddle lol
15. well I've got it. It's lovely. Very well made and a good weight. Got a gig Sunday, so It'll get a proper thrashing then, in the meantime it's on the sofa next to me
16. not coming today, there was a mix up in the shop, but it should come tomorrow
17. I'm still waiting for the courier to turn up
