1. Maude, I use the XPS with a Variax JTV-59 (the new les paul shaped thing, with magnetic pickups). I use the XPS as an A-B switch (to switch the acoustic sounds into the PA) and also to power the guitar. I have no experience with the older variax batteries, but the new one does last well. But I needed the A-B switch and the fact that the XPS powers it is a bonus. I know it runs on batteries and I just don't understand it either. But I was pointed in the right direction by the line 6 forum and the voodoo labs forum. Sure buy a replacement on ebay, as long as it's the equivalent to the line 6. If it powers a line 6 pod, it will work. I just happened to have a pod so I robbed its PSU.
2. you need an ac psu. I've got an enormous pedal board with a voodoo labs PSU and it still won't power the XPS. use the line 6 one that comes with a pod. (that's what I do, I have a pod knocking about that I don't use) and get a decent quality TRS lead.
3. move to Kent, there's a real lack of bass players down here (although there are 2 in my pub covers band!!) don't sell your gear, just in case
4. I bought a mid 70's P bass 22 years ago. I'm still using it for rock stuff. In my police tribute I use a CIJ 70's re-issue Fender P bass fretless. Never find them for sale so I don't know what its worth, I also use an old Steinberger XL2, and hopefully by about christmas a Bravewood '57 P bass replica of Sting's really beaten up bass. Cost, for me, is not an issue. If I own it, I'll generally play it out (the only exception is my '59 Les Paul Jr as it's worth a little too much. Although I did use it a lot when I bought it 10 years ago)
5. welcome. SD Curlee eh? Nice. BC is a great place enjoy
6. great thread. I'm glad most bands are still playing the same stuff as it does make it a little easier to find slightly different stuff. I'm a massive 80s / 90s hair rock fan and as such borrow heavily on the cheesey stuff all the so called 'musos' are too up themselves to play!! That's not an insult, BTW, I used to be like it myself. our set includes stuff like Nothing but a good time & Every Rose by Poison Wonderful world, Joey Ramone Delilha (a mix of Tom and SAHB) let there be rock AC/DC I believe in a thing called love Wanted dead or alive Bon Jovi Centrefold, J Geils Place your hands, Reef Hey Jealousy by the Gin Blossoms Old before I die, Robbie Williams Ballroom Blitz, Sweet Maggie May Helter Skelter, Beatles Dead Ringer, Meatloaf nothing really challenging but I love it when I see the whole pub singing along to Every Rose (thansk to Bill and Ted for that )
7. It's painted and look at my picture above
8. here's mine I've taken the scratchplate off
9. My wife has decided to sell her Japan Fender Mustang bass in Fiesta red. She just prefers her P bass. I love it but I've just taken delivery of a Hofner Jubilee bass and it's going on the wall where the Mustang was. I've dated it to between 2002 and 2006. It's almost immaculate, there are a few tiny marks but nothing serious. Price is £4[s]75.00[/s] now £450 and that includes shipping anywhere in the UK. No case but I'll find some gig bag of other to put it in. Here's some pictures for you PM me if you're interested martin
10.
No love for the Marbass cabs then..??
oh yes, they're great. Sold all the hartke cabs now. (Too heavy) My wife loves the Hartke head (cos it hasn't gone wrong)

13. my steinberger XL2 sustains for days. Don't know if it's a good thing or not
14. I used a HA3500 for 10 years, with an original USA made transporter 4x10 (aluminium speakers) and it was great. I finally worked out about leaving the EQ flat when I had my Musicman bass. My original amp developed a fault after about 7 years, so I bought another new one. Now I'm using an ampeg pf500 (in my Police tribute) but the bass player in my pub rock band (which I play guitar) in still using the hartke (it's my wife on the bass in this band) but I still have a lot of love for the hartke
