1. My wife has decided to sell her Japan Fender Mustang bass in Fiesta red. She just prefers her P bass. I love it but I've just taken delivery of a Hofner Jubilee bass and it's going on the wall where the Mustang was. I've dated it to between 2002 and 2006. It's almost immaculate, there are a few tiny marks but nothing serious. Price is £4[s]75.00[/s] now £450 and that includes shipping anywhere in the UK. No case but I'll find some gig bag of other to put it in. Here's some pictures for you PM me if you're interested martin
2.
No love for the Marbass cabs then..??
oh yes, they're great. Sold all the hartke cabs now. (Too heavy) My wife loves the Hartke head (cos it hasn't gone wrong)
3. Nick, how does it compare to your other one? I won't get to see mine till next thursday
4. they've arrived at barnes & mullins. there is pictures on sound affects facebook page.
5. my steinberger XL2 sustains for days. Don't know if it's a good thing or not
6. I used a HA3500 for 10 years, with an original USA made transporter 4x10 (aluminium speakers) and it was great. I finally worked out about leaving the EQ flat when I had my Musicman bass. My original amp developed a fault after about 7 years, so I bought another new one. Now I'm using an ampeg pf500 (in my Police tribute) but the bass player in my pub rock band (which I play guitar) in still using the hartke (it's my wife on the bass in this band) but I still have a lot of love for the hartke
7. bins are 30 kgs each but have excellent casters and very well placed handles , which makes lifting them easy. top cabs are (I think) 14kg each. We're at the george on the 14th July come and have a listen
8. hello Boris, my old bass!! If I had the money I'd buy it back. It was my first 'proper' bass. I'm sure I bought it in '83. It originally had a different bridge (it's got a badass on it now I think). A great bass
9. I can't recommend them enough JT, come with a 6 year warranty as standard too
10. Hello Tim, The guy in The English Rogues had a manson as a back up to his old rick. I sold the bass to a bloke that claimed to work for Hugh Manson, that was back in '96. The girl that joined Girlschool (Tracy Lamb used to be in Rock Goddess) she had one, (I think it was the one reviewed in a a magazine). I saw Tracy at a gig in Deal, watching Anvil, should have asked her really. I haven't seen or heard of the Tiger one since. How's tricks Tim?
11. shouldn't do. you'll hear if the bass drum is distorting anything. PA speakers are full range but use your ears
12. I use an EUB on Police tribute gigs but I'll be buggered if I'm getting a spare for that!! My P bass let go on me once. Pickup went open circuit, since then I carry a spare bass.
13. I'll be honest, I don't think that would be good enough, not for outdoors. Ok to practise through. Having said that, when I first started gigging properly (25 years ago) our singer had the obligatory HH 100 watt PA and a pair of speakers and it was good enough. But we all had proper amps, 100 watt valve marshalls and 150 watt Trace with 4x12 marshall cab and acoustic drums. so the PA only had to tackle vocals. We did some outdoors stuff like fetes and it was good enough to play to the small crowds that gathered. My current bands rehearse in my studio (it's a giant shed!!) with a 400 watt Peavey powered mixer , electric drums and everything goes through the PA, (guitars use line 6 Pods). It's great for rehersal but lacks all sorts of oomph. There's a lot of good gear available at reasonable money.
14. beg, steal, borrow, alternatively, could you hire a PA for the event.
15. Yep, I sold Jack a Hartke 4x10. Swift payment and all round nice guy. great comms too.
16. you can learn to be a frontman. You've learned to play bass and you've learned the songs, so now learn to be at the front. Personally I am a quiet and fairly shy person, (people often call me aloof because I shy away from people and don't talk to them between sets or whatever) but give me an audience and a gig, (albeit as a singer, guitarist, bassist or any combination) and I change personality. Of course it's easier if the gig is going well but when you're playing to one man and his dog at the frog and bucket and it's only the dog that's interested in you that can make it a little tougher!!
17. My advice if you're going to try and be the frontman, is to relax and enjoy it. If you're struggling to talk to the audience in between numbers, shorten the gaps between the songs. Make eye contact with people if something funny happens (someone trips over, spills their beer etc) when someone shouts out 'YOU'RE SH1T' you can tell them, 'you're ugly but we can practice'
