  1. [quote name='RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE' timestamp='1337425304' post='1659679'] Niiice bassss! I would love one of these myself, especially white. One tip; if you play gigs , try to leave this at home and buy a battered homer or something,) nice bass bump [/quote] LEAVE IT AT HOME!!!!! you must be joking. I play my gear out, everytime. That's what it's for o:)
  2. [quote name='BarnacleBob' timestamp='1337422326' post='1659629'] Not with the steiny I hope, although it is the right shape BB [/quote] Hell yeah, 32 not out!!!
  3. my bass came from hendrix in Italy, the receipt is still in the case. My brother lives in Italy and says Hendrix are very good. The serial number puts it to november 1984. Very much transitional as far I can make out. Plays great, but I haven't plugged it in yet, maybe tomorrow as I'm just off to play cricket
  4. Found this on the net for sale at Bass Direct. I've always wanted a 'berger for my Police Tribute band (think Gateshead gig in '82) It was quite a lot of money BUT, OMG, it's almost immaculate. Almost too good to gig, (b*gger that, I'm going to use it anyway) Still, here's few shots for you. It's november '84 and still has the plug in leg rest. It's quite a difficult thing to photograph seeing as there's no fancy wood, it's black!!
  5. [sup]Evil Undead,[/sup] [sup]as someone already put, try and specify, 'no stupid offers, I'm not desperate etc, ' seems to work for me,[/sup] [sup]hasn't stopped someone offering me 250 for my old PA that was up for 600, (which I got), he actually phoned me up and offered me 250. I laughed and asked, are you really taking the p*ss.[/sup] [sup]He opologised and went away!![/sup] [sup]Selling gear is a pain, I've sold 7 guitars in the past 6 weeks, in order to finance my new QSC PA and also I'm on a Sting/Police thing at the moment. (trying to collect/ make/ aquire the guitars used by The Police / Sting for my tribute band) and as such keep buying things for it, including A 1984 Steinberger XL2, A Bravewood '55 P Bass replica, Stagg EUB, 1983 Squire '62 P bass and I've even Andy Summerised by Telecaster custom, (please don't tell my Andy Summers, it's a surprise for our next gig).[/sup] [sup]I've dealt with silly offers, but I stuck with it and have got everything I wanted, (in fact some of the guitars I sold fetched far more than I expected)[/sup]
  6. Ok i know a bit about this. I worked in the industry for 20 years. There is always nickel underneath shiney chrome. A plating company should be able to strip the chrome and leave the nickel showing. I have done this hundreds of times. You can either leave it in a bath of hydro chloric acid or we used to use a cleaning solution and pass current and when fizzed or stopped it was done. Can't quite remember as it was over 10 years ago. Now, if its aluminium it Will have been coated with a special chemical to stop the aluminium dissolving in the other chemicals, then its plated as normal. My advice to you. Do not use Ashford chroming, nice guys but they put the actual plating out, but use butterworths in ramsgate in Kent. My company still uses them and i have a guitar bridge over there being plated. It probably won't be cheap, it never is. Hope I've helped. Martin
  7. As usual just apologise and mumble about your own headache because the bass was so loud. Or tell him to f off
  8. For me it has to be who was most prominent when i started playing sting Bruce foxton John Taylor pino Nick beggs. But as i got more into rock Steve Harris Andy Fraser Neil Murray Phil lynott suzi quattro all the people i listen to at the time. I still like sting and his more modern approach with his thumb billy shehan for widdling My wife because she plays like me Mark king, bootsey, Chris squire all because they are un unmistakable
  9. Its tough out there now. I used to think nothing of 100 mile round trip but that's about 14 quid of fuel. Lucky i don't have to rely on my gig money as i did 12 years ago
  10. I'll definitely have to try one of those out i think. We don't really want a clinical sound. We both like a little edge to our sound. (both me and the Mrs play bass you see, she plays in my pub rock band and me in the police band)
  11. Everything goes through it. Bass, drums, 2 guitars and vocals. Good desk, well made
  12. i've been using the zed22fx for about 3 years now. love it to bits. easy to use and the fx are good. just use a little delay and reverb.
  13. might give it another gig, but this time take a spare head with me/us. some of these amps play up and some don't it would appear. admittedly, the amp is loud through one cab but surely, this shouldn't be a problem. It doesn't even feel like it's getting warm. When I get home (on holiday in Kossovo would you believe) I'll phone digital village and see what they want to do. I will push for a replacement first and if that one fails, then I'll have to think again. Lightweight and THAT ampeg sound is all I want. SVT pro7 is starting to get too big and too heavy (although hardly heavy at 7Kg) Lozz, is your MB500 good. I did try one side by side with ampeg and it sounded good but I prefered the ampeg.
  14. I don't understand how the tolerance thing works. the cab is 8 ohms and they can run to 4. how can there be a problem. the mark cab is ok, does flap a little when the amp is really cooking, but we DI on all gigs that have the full PA, (that's all the police gigs and most of the scandal ones) but I will try different cabs at some point. (need to pay off my new (actually old, 1984) Steinberger first. Originally tried the ampeg through a mark 4x10. now that really worked!! but we need portability and light weight and the mark cabs we bought were only 250 each, so thought that a good starting point, seeing as my hartke was knackered, but its fixed now (and too heavy) I'm away in Kossovo at the mo and don't get near a computer too often, if you find anything on talkbass John, that would be great mart
  15. Thanks JTUK. but we've still got our old hartke head. I've been down the studio today, with the amp and 2 different cabs and 2 speaker leads. I couldn't get it to play up at all and I gave it a good thrashing. One thing though, there was some intereferance on the wireless last night. Just white noise. could there be a problem with the pub electrics? The guy at bass direct, (whom I recently bought a steinberger from) was very vocal about my wanting another markbass cab. 'what amp you using?' he asked , so I said the ampeg PF500, which he said was fine, but needed to match it to less woolly cabs. he was very insistant about it, so I'm thinking he would have said there was a problem with the ampeg etc. Now, I work in manufacturing and realise that things go wrong and the ampeg has been out long enough for them to have ironed out the problems, surely. It's such a good sounding amp I don't want to change to anything else
  16. using a mark bass club 1x15. it's been brilliant for about 6 weeks and 10-12 gigs so far.
  17. any ideas, I'm going to send it back anyway. Nothing has changed from last usage. Playing away, it cuts out and the yellow fault light comes on. no sound for about 5-10 seconds, light goes off, sound comes back. after one set, (we changed everything, bass, lead, transmitter) we went direct into the powered monitor which has a speaker extension socket, which we plugged into the bass cab. It all worked very well. any ideas, (so I can tell the shop what it might be) thanks for your help
  18. Selling my approx 6 year old beatle bass. Bought it to hang on my wall in my lounge. It's done 2 or three gigs and is in excellent condition. I sit and play it when I'm learning songs. It's tobacco sunburst and has the German made pickups. No case, but I have the original box and hang tag. It's in almost perfect condition, a few very small marks and a little tarnishing of the hardware. comes with it's factory fitted roundwound strings Looking for £300. It's a bargain and that's shipped folks!! PM me
  19. don't know how to embed, but here's some police tribute that I do [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=2mlUDKszy0U"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=2mlUDKszy0U[/url] [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=2RudkX65ocg"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=2RudkX65ocg[/url]
  20. here's a Jam tribute I helped out for a few gigs, (note heavily strapped little finger. Dislocated while playing cricket, ouch!) [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=xl9st1CNPxU"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=xl9st1CNPxU[/url]
  21. I have a mid 70's P bass. Paid bugger all for it in 1990. It's done over a thousand gigs with me, I had it set up when I got it and the guitar tech found Jimmy Page's phone number in the neck pocket , he phoned it and Jimmy got the arse!! I have used all sorts over the years but keep coming back to it. However, in my police tribute band I use a 70's re-issue Jap fretless P bass , The Fender Sting bass and now a Stagg EDB. None of them expensive or complicated. I used to have a Jaydee Mark King. I couldn't get a single usable tone from it. Lovely to play and to look at, but no soul.
  22. So yesterday I depped on vocals for a band featuring son of Cornford amps (James Cornford ) on guitar and they turned up with Chris Slade on drums. F**K me. I got to sing some AC/DC with a member of AC/DC. What a nice chap too!! just thought I'd share
  23. you can see the buckle rash here. I think I might be able to polish it out
