1. yep, too late mate. That takes my total to 27. basses, guitars and acoustics. most of them get a run out, every now and then.
2. cool. I've ordered one from GAK. I phoned them and they did me a great price over the phone. £490 delivered with a free strap worth 30 odd quid. must get myself a dep gig on the bass!!
3. It'll probably hardly ever get gigged as I don't gig on bass much these days, apart from Police tribute. should I get one anyway?
4. Sting is one of my favourite bass players. Hence my tribute band 'The Police Squad'. The Police are my favourite band of all time
5. Bought my first bass from Kennards in Canterbury in July 1981. It was a Tempest SG shaped thing. (Kay under another name I think) . Did me first gig on rememberance sunday that same year (Nov 8th). I had just turned 13. I still see the members of my first band. Guitarist does an Ozzy tribute and the drummer now plays Keys for Toyah!!
6. Here's a couple of shots of my XL2. 1983. Plug in leg rest. It's in great nick, shame that somebody added all those strap buttons but it does stop it clouting the floor when you put it down. Awesome bottom end. It's a real 'fundamental' note. No rich harmonic overtones here. Doesn't get a lot of use but i had to have it for my Police Tribute, (Sting had an L2 for a while)
7. welcome, I recently bought a bass from a chap in cornwall, (Redruth actually).Lovely part of the world. Your opinions on slapping mirror my wife's.
8. I paid 2K for my transitional XL2 in virtually mint condition Fantastic bass guitar. Would love this L2 as Sting had one. (I use it in my police tribute but the L2 would be more historically correct) have a bump on me
9. I had this problem trying to sell a retrovibe rv4. My ad got pulled 3 times from ebay, even though I didn't put a picture of the headstock etc etc. My account got suspended. didn't matter as I sold it on here. a 200 hundred pound guitar WILL NOT affect the R company at all.
10. totally normal. The bass sits differently. I've got an old Steinberger that sits on its pivot strap and actually doesn't do this. But my Hohner B2a did and my Status and also my steinberger GR4 guitar. eventually, I got used to it. It still makes me chuckle
11. I think you should all come on the 23rd!! we're there (Scandal) Hi Kris, what you up to these days?
12. hey Kris, how's it going (it's wiz here)
13. I bought a Steinberger and some flats for my violin bass from him. very helpful. but he's miles away and I'll probably never go to the shop but I'd love too
14.
Thanks for the review, it was very helpful. The PF500 and MiBass550 are definitely on my shortlist. Has anyone tried the Ampeg with different speakers? I could really do with lighter cabs!!
I use mine with a markbass club 1x15 and its great. When I add the std 115 (MB again) it's awesome. I originally tried it with a std 4x10 markbass cab and I thought it was perfect, but I bought my 2 MB cabs for 500 quid the pair, so I'll stick with them for now
15. yes, original hard case. serial number is 7 digits starting 11. from what I've read, it's 1981. great neck and low action too
16. Bob, welcome. I'm in Dover and I know JTUK. That's me in my avatar. Fat Sting in a tribute band, alongside singer/guitar for Scandal.
17. A really nice looking CIJ has turned up in the classifieds. It's sunburst and a 70s model. (I've got a 70s fretless CIJ and my mrs has a white fretted 70s one. Excellent basses)
18. what's wrong with your Tokai jazz. Just use the neck pick up on its own, it should sound good enough. The CIJ basses feel better made (to me) than the standard USA things. They look almost anemic. The maple is always really pale. Plus I like the laquer on the necks on the CIJ stuff. Still, enjoy looking for whatever, it's great fun
19. cool, thanks for that. It seems to work ok (not that it'll get much use, I just wanted one)
20. As some of you may remember I recently bought an old Aria SBR-150. Over the weekend I finally soldered a new battery lead and cleaned up the 3 way switch. My question is, when I plug the guitar lead in, the LED just flashes on and off, whether active or passive. Is this normal or should it be on when active and off when passive. The electrics work how they should though The bass's serial number suggests it's from 1981. I've read this model was made 83-84. your help would be muchly appreciated.
21. great article.I love Steinbergers.
22. he didn't see it come up here, so he put in basses. He doesn't need a hard time. Great bass BTW. I've got number 7. I strung it with flats and it's a great sounding thing. Good luck with the sale
23. yes it was on gumtree £440 and its now mine
24. Love the Aria. I've just picked up an SBR-150. good scores well done
