Paid gigs for amateur musicians......?
police squad replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
Many years ago the 30 quid i earned at a pub gig, really supplemented my income. 150 gigs a year and a full time job was great. Ive gigged hard for nearly 40 years. Ive also bought a lot of gear with that money, which I couldn't have afforded without the gigs. Then, 21 years ago I started playing solo gigs My wife had left me and I needed something to keep me occupied I made a fortune for a couple of years. I thought I had to charge the same as other solo performers or I would be taking work from them. My Police tribute hardly ever made any money a nd usually we were out of pocket after hotels etc but it was fun As I get older I really dont need the money and so dont really charge as much as I could for my duo I still do charity gigs for free. I've never really thought of playing for free, the way you do Chris, it's an interesting conundrum -
cool, all ordered cheers mart

what do I search for? I'm not finding this one
-
yes so people say It's going in my Adam Clayton beaten up sunburst P
-
this is actually how I gig mostly As the singer in 2 bands, I like the whole mix so I can make sure my voice sits in the right place, so I come out the headphone socket Both bands have everything in the pa, so I get a great sound I did a bass only gig last week (U2 Tribute) and we only had time for a line check, I got a kind of mix in my IEMs but not what I wanted. The out front sound was ace, just not enough time to sort the IEM mix properly (and there's no way I was going to take them out)

I have both the fender 'original 62' bass pickup and a custom shop version They are very nice and sound very similar. They would be my go to but I have a Tonerider classic that I'm putting in a build It will interesting to hear the difference
-
all fair points. The tuner and the kill switch is important to me as one of my bands changes tuning and I change basses too. If I played more guitar I would mount it on my pedal board but I'm not atm as you say, maybe rack the head and velcro it on top but that would mean setting up at each gig
-
that's a good point ref the velcro actually I wonder if racking it would be better. (this is so I don't have to mess about plugging it in and setting it up, everytime I do a gig) anyone racked the RM500 I wonder
-
thank you

quick question for you with the GLXD16+ does it come with a power supply for the receiver? On the shure site it says it does but no one else says anything about it (as far as I can see) I'm not putting it on my pedal board because I don't have one, I was going to velcro it to the top of my RM500 EVO II (I may rack my RM500 though, then it could go in next to it) TIA

Standard E and Standard Eb in the Same Set? - How Would You Do It?
police squad replied to Sean's topic in General Discussion
I'm doing this in U2 Tribe (U2 tribute) I have a bass in standard tuning and a bass in Eb The songs are grouped together, so I'm not constantly changing basses It works very well for me -
I would suggest you try some KZs. There only about 50 quid. get some comply foam tips too they really have changed my life. Without them, I would have to stop gigging
-
I watched that sight and sound gig over and over and became quite a lizzy fan (and a Sykes fan) both gone now, such a shame
-
really? you dont get a good bass sound. What IEMs are you using? I get a fab sound thru my KZs (both sets) we mic up everything so can get a good mix in the ears
-
I'd try the cold tea method and see what happens I'm about to do it to mine that I'm working on

I'm on a one hour radio special tonight

I'll try and remember to listen in -
at the moment, I used bass amp + cab and IEMs The bass always goes into the desk, so I could ditch the bass amp I can't play without ear protection now, loud is too painful. I cant stand next to acoustic drums, so always have my moulded earplugs The gig I did on saturday, the DJ was SSSOOOOOOO LOUD. My IEM mix was dreadful. They gave us 30 minutes to set up and do a line check FOH sounded great. My bass sound in my ears was dreadful, couldnt hear the keys very well etc but got through it ok what I really like with the IEM, is that I can hear my bass so well, sounding wonderful and I don't hit the strings so hard, so I play better The drummer in my Police trib was IEM but he's stopped atm, which means I can't go ampless yet
-
doesnt he have his bass high up
