  1. I'm just under 6 foot and I think it looks cool
  2. and Jimmy Page licks
  3. I dont notice any neck dive on either my Hofner or JMJ mustang. I still play the long scale basses (namely in my Police tribute) but prefer the shorties now. Taking the Hofner out on Sunday
  4. sad news, Nick was a great bloke My condolances to his family RIP
  5. weird isnt it. Thinking about it, my p bass is detuned half a step, maybe I should return to pitch and see how it feels.
  6. Labellas on the hofner and fender flats on the mustang
  7. I really don't know, I have so little experience with flats. I've always gigged with rounds and never had a problem
  8. Agreed but when I play with my thumb (like Sting) the La Bellas really do dig in more. I play both basses very similarly. The tension on the Mustang flats is a lot less but when I play the same string on one of my P bass, again no problem. I have my hofner tuned half a step down for this weekends gig, but still I feel it's going to be a bit sore
  9. Probably been asked before but my Hofner violin bass wears La Bella deep talking flats .50 to .100 gauge When I play with my fingers, it makes them sore, yet my Fender flats on my JMJ and one of my P basses don't get this reaction. Why does it happen and if I put La Bellas on my JMJ will I have the same problem TIA
  10. Agreed about compression. I dont really understand it but some kind of compression on the aux outs to limit any spikes, as was put somewhere in the IEM thread. I'll have a look on Friday at my next gig, to see what I have set up.
  11. DON'T SELL THE '71 you'll regret it mate. Just keep playing it. I recently bought a Harley Benton PB-50. After a set up and rolling the fingerboard edges (I did this myself) it is a superb bass and cost £104.00. Great for dragging about when you dont want to use something expensive. I use it in my Police tribute band but I will also be using for a normal pub gig this weekend
  12. no, it's painted I think, then laquered . I had one, lovely lovely bass, just too heavy for me and someone did say to me about drunk idiots that hate West Ham, would they start on you at a gig? I didn';t have any trouble at the 3 gigs I used it at. It's was too dang heavy and had to go
  13. what did you make the template out of?
  14. I use 3 different A&H desks, all analogue. I have a really good set up on one of the desks and we sometimes vary the delay length, using the 'tap' button, it gets the delay in time with the song I started with a preset and then fiddled with the available parameters. I really like how my most used desk sounds and need to see what I've done and copy it to the other desks. If I was to go digital, I would probably try and set it up similar to my main desk. I don't seem to hear any need to change anything from venue to venue but with the digital desk you could probably set each singer up with what they want to hear, in the monitors or not. With my A&H desks it's everyone gets the FX or no one.
  15. great score. I have 3 vintage 6 strings and they are all super instruments. One day I'll pick up a V4 I'm sure
  16. @BillBdid you ever manage to make the template?
  17. crikey, that's a lot of ' a lot of different guitars' I haven't used mine for some years now but I keep it for the next time I'm going to need a mulitude of guitars for one gig.
  18. I had one of those too actually. It was bl00dy nice. Massive neck and it really purred. It was ash bodied (strange as Sting's 57 is alder) and had a really smooth sound. I wish I'd kept it
  19. +1 for the JMJ Mustang. No real idea about JMJ himself but the bass is awesome
  20. ooh nice. I was thinking about changing the tuners on my HB PB-50. They feel like they might break, they hold tune well enough but feel cheap. I must measure the holes
  21. I have the JTV59, les paul shaped one. A great gigging tool when I needed all those different sounds and the acoustic sounds. It made one less guitar on the smaller gigs. I got a power supply A/B TRS box, which meant I never needed to charge the battery. Nicely made too. Good score TZ
  22. agreed, it's also medium scale, I think long scale would be too much for me now, especially with a larger hollow body too
  23. yes the one i bid on went for £735. Quite a good price I think. I', sure another will come along
  24. outbid in ebay with a minute to go oh well
  25. my mate received his today, he says it's awesome but will plug it in tomorrow
