  1. it does work great. It keeps the left hand in the right position. Mine felt like I was a little trussed up when I got a bit fatter. Great tone too Nice score
  2. I was in a pub band that had a 30 year tenure. For the first 10 years 4 out of 5 were original. By the time the last original member stepped down (he passed away shortly after from cancer) the lead guitarist had been there 20 years. We carried on for a bit and then the original singer rejoined (he was in his 70s at this point). It still had the same values that it had always had. To entertain, look good, sound good etc
  3. well I tried it with a bass and it sounded like my ac30. Not great for bass. Not enough EQ to make it sound fat. Just middly really
  4. I'm 42 years in now. Started with a Kay bass, next Fender Musicmaster, Manson Explorer, Aria SBR150, Vox White shadow Fretless, Aria XRB then Fender Precision. Bought my main bass, a '73 in 1990. Still have it plus a few more precisions and a Mustang. Been through all sorts, Jaydee, Spector, Musicman, Rickys, Status, Steinberger, Hofner always back to Fender. Mustang mainly, due to neck/back issues, but I always bring a P bass as a spare
  5. I will try this out for you to see what it sounds like. I'll do it when I get home today and try to make a video on my phone
  6. I have the MV50AC and it's awesome but I've not plugged a bass into it. I might do it when I get home but I imagine it won't sound that great. I actually have an AC30 in my office and when I've plugged a bass into that, it has lacked bottom end but it has been ok to practice with
  7. My JMJ has Fender flats on it and I like them I recently did a load of gigs with Fender flast on one of my P basses. Sounded enormous and I can now hear flats on many recordings, that I didn't know about. They didn't really work on the Jam numbers, Stranglers or The Clash but probably only I really noticed. The Fender ones work for me and I have no intention of trying anything else but if someone gave me a bass to try, with flats and I liked them, I would consider trying them I started with a set of Olympics, which were from ebay about 12 quid. I lasted one song, far to stiff and quickly switched back to my JMJ. The Fenders tension are very similar to the RS66, although they are a slightly lighter gauge
  8. yep, I've been using the Zed-fx series for 14 years now. Works well and sounds great
  9. I've just finished a 6 week depping job where they all have IEM. Great job, very simply I took aux 6 via a mono lead to my P2. By the end of my stint I had a really good mix. We did a festival last Friday and the sound guy gave us all wireless packs and we all set up our own mix. (the sound guy asked us what we wanted, as opposed to using our phones) It was great. I had a meeting with the BL of The Americana Revue last night. This is the new project I'm involved with and we will be mostly using our own PA man, who will rent us all the PA etc and he is onboard with IEMs, which is wonderful news. We will be doing shows to about 800-1000 people (hopefully) so reasonanbly big theatres etc. I even showed him the Vox MV50 amp, which is incredible, light etc. So his load in as a guitarist is easy.
  10. thanks mate, I have four different Vintage guitars and they are all really good, I just don't use the SG at all and someone else should
  11. It's something I was going to learn do to. To see if I could play differently but in the end I couldn't really be bothered with it
  12. I would like t have less injuries. I did both shoulders playing cricket (diving after the ball) and my back went ping a few years ago and I have to be much more careful. I'm 55 soon and have no problem with my age, I only really play gigs that I want to play. I have recently been depping for @spongebob s band, Heroes. I have enjoyed every gig with them and I would play nearly all the venues again, they were nice places with great people. When I was younger I failed an audition to join Bernie Torme's group. I let that get to me and never bothered chasing the dream, I think I should have continued chasing it, but I don't really regret anything. Life moves on, you've just got to go with it and try and enjoy yourself
  13. Supposed to be very good. I bought a Fender custom shop 62 from @walshy and it is awesome
  14. This popped up locally on Facebook 200 quid including gator gig bag. These desks are 650 quid new. I'm really pleased. I have a 22FX and 10FX. the 22 is too big for my 3 piece.
  15. Here's my old V Amp for sale. Owned for just over 22 years. Gigged quite a lot back in the day. I've just done a factory reset and it all seems to be working OK. A bit scratched on the top but has always been cased. I dont have the original box but it'll be well packed. Can post for a fiver I reckon
  16. My 80s duo (and band) often get asked to do stuff not from the 80s and often I asked if we do any Whitney Houston!!
  17. I'd heard Iain was on BC but didn't know who he was. Small world!!
  18. similar to buying a van, lights etc. A bit of a mine field isn't it. I am lucky in that I own a quality QSC full system. But as a singer, shouldn't I have a decent PA?
  19. it went very well. About 3 weeks later I got the call again as te bass had just detached a retina. I've now done 2 to 3 a weekend with them and will be until the end of July. It's certainly got my chops back up to speed
  20. I had a 78. One of my first basses and my first Fender. I loved it. I felt like I was going up in the world, I had a Fender!! I loved mine
  21. I joined an established duo, 1989. I didn't know most of the set. I had to wing it. I listened very closely to the first verse in each song, knew the key. There could only be a few notes in the progression. I worked it out as I went along. I became quite good at busking and have done many gigs like this. (but not for a while now)
  22. when I bought my '73 with rosewood board back in 1990, I already had a '62. I had some gear to trade and traded it and 50 quid. Little did I know that '73 would still be with me 33 years later. It was a better sounding and playing bass than my '62, so that got sold (550 quid, would you believe it) I haven't played a better P bass since. I have a bitsa that sounds awesome but doesnt play like my old one
