  1. the pickup on my JMJ mustang is awesome, I thought it was a seymour duncan but the blurb doesn't say but I've just watched a 2018 review online and it is a seymour duncan. The newer ones claim to have a specially voiced pickup, whatever that might mean
  2. a squier classic vibe p bass would be good. Also I can highly recomend a Vintage V4. Great value and great quality and sounds like a P bass. I have 4 Vintage guitars and they are all very good instruments and have good pickups too
  3. I remember watching the BBC series, 'Rockschool'. They did an episode on reggae. It was very informative. The last reggae song I played live was 'Stir it up'. I found that missing the 'one' (first beat of the bar) made for good space. I didn't do it all the time but it sounded good
  4. I use a sennheiser wirelss mic. Ew100 G4. It's analoge and on channel 38. Needs a license. It's awesome. Never had a problem in the 2 years I've been using it. Done about 100 gigs. If I was going to wireless for my guitar/bass, I would go sennheiser ans stay analogue
  5. my wife worked shifts for many years and was also on call out too. She knew her shifts well in advance and was able to gig regularly. When we got together she was playing bass in an all girl sort of pop punk group and a classic rock band. Eventually she left the girl group and I started to dep for her classic rock band (they were mates and we used to play together in previous bands) as her shifts changed. It can be done but family probably gets in the way too. We dont have any kids but lots of people I know, have their playing restricted a bit by having kids etc. Even our dog is more important to me than gigs now.
  6. I've been using QSC K12 x 2 and when needed 2 x Ksub. Allen and heath zed fx desks. The desk makes a big difference to the sound too. I've used this gear for over 8 years now. It's awesome. For a monitor, my duo uses the behringer b205. works a treat. I listen to the FOH mix through it. It helps us know that the FOH sound is balanced. When we go out as a full band (with bass and drums) I use a wharfedale evp 12 inch powered monitor. Again with the FOH sound in it. On stage volumes are low, guitar is a vox tonelab pedal into the desk, bass is bergantino head, 2 x cabs but low volume on stage. It works very well like this, for us anyway. Having a monitor has been the best thing to improve my singing, I can focus on pitch more than ever now.
  7. I had the Ampeg PF500 and loved it I now have the Rootmaster 500 EVO II and love it just as much. If you're in Kent you're welcome to come and try it
  8. note selection isnt the problem here, it's chords. I thought I would be able to just see it, but I need a book to tell me the chords. Also, I stopped playing the violin at 13. I got my mandolin when I was 47. A long time had passed but I still kmow the notes etc
  9. I need to dust mine off too. Spent 7 years on the violin, then switched to bass and guitar. Mandolin came about 7 years ago, i thought I would be able to work it out but couldn't. Time to have another go methinks
  10. yep, not often I get to the end of these videos but I enjoyed it. They all sounded very P like to me. I think my favourite was #3. Nice one
  11. my wife and I talk about this all the time. Who's rock n roll and why are they rock n roll. If your persona in a band roll is rock n roll but you decide to be polite and well mannered off stage, go and do the shopping etc, are you still rock n roll? answers on a post card to the usual address and we won't be able to returm your paintings..........................
  12. wow, just wow. I missed this thread when it first started but that is first class all round I would definately come and see you
  13. totally agree with you Geoff seems like a great drummer too
  14. I have a black one . It's my absolute favourite. The neck is exactly the same profile as my 73 P bass GLWTS
  15. I loved it. It really helped me whilst I was learning different stuff. I particularly enjoyed the reggae episode
  16. Funny isn't it. I've never had speaker lead problems 😅I used a speakon. I thought I should use them because it was the new 'norm' I thought I had bought Neutrik (I usually buy Neutrik stuff) but I'm not even sure where they are now, so checking could be difficult
  17. I had similar problems with my ampeg PF500 and Mark bass cabs, so I just reverted to using jack to jack. Maybe I'll look at my speakon cables to see what they are. What exactly is the advantage of speakon?
  18. I recently sold a fretless version like this (natural and F/less) and my wife has a R/W board white one. Awesome basses
  19. Pete has just bought a Fretless Maple boarded P bass from me. Fast payment, great comms. All round very top chap. Cheers Pete
