I'm doing a similar build atm. I've used 2nd hand Northwest Guitar parts body and neck (£200 ). 62 custon shop fender pickup (£70) 2nd hand schaller 3D bridge (£45), Kiogon loom (cant remember), ebay scratchplate (£10) Got my usual luthier putting it together, this is a tribute to my first ever P bass. Approx 1980, black with a maple board. I found a video of my band from 1988, with me playing the black bass. It looked superb and sounded great, so I thought I would recreate it I just to go and collect it, as it's made now

my first bass was a 2 pickup version, which I bought in 1981. It was actually very playable. I learned a lot in the 3 or so years I had it. I even learned how to slap on it. It was new years eve and my older brothers got me drunk on Gin (I was 12/13) and I learned to play My Own Way by Duran Duran.

i went from a pf-500 (which was dead reliable actually. The first one I bought went wrong but its replacement was perfect) I then switched to The Ashdown RM500 EVO II. It's superb, I love it and highly recommend it

welcome Rob. I have a '73 p bass. Owned it for nearly 32 years. Best sounding P bass I've ever had. Ampwise, defintaley look at the Ashdown RM stuff. They do loud combos and heads and lightweight cabs. Not too expensive either, there's a lot of love for the RM stuff onhere

its a really good quality bass, as you would expect from Fender Japan

Unlined for me, looks way cooler because it looks different. A lined fretless looks fretted I have 3 at the moment The natural P-bass is a jap fender that I found for sale in Essex in 2009 for £500. It was mint (it's not now, its done quite a few gigs) The red one is a Bravewood body (alder) cheap EY guitar parts neck. It's awesome Ibanez MC940. Lovely it is. mwah to die for

many many times when I drop D my bass, I forget to tune it back up and end up bluffing my way to the end (it's not difficult to play 2 frets higher but the muscle memory doesn't like it)

I'm in a function band that played at a wedding reception. Did the first dance, families didn't get along Complete riot. They all started fighting, Police came, people arrested. Band didnt even finish the first dance but the barman had the money and they still got paid

looks like we've all had some great experiences. I have 2 of note. Back in '95, I was due to play at my mates wedding, with my (very popular) rock band. He was a biker and the gig was in a biker pub. However, I was at the wedding breakfast and got absolutely plastered. Proper out of it. We ended up in another having some dinner (before the evening gig), I was asleep in the pub whilst they ate. They carried me to the car, drove me to the gig. Then I literally woke up, 'let do this' I said. And did. I have no idea how I got through it but it was ok The other time We had a recovering alcoholic on the drums. Lovely guy and a superb drummer. Turned up to the gig, set up, all good first song, Walk this way, Aerosmith. Drummer drops a stick, stops. Starts up again, and drops the stick again. 'I can't play he said' What to do? Singer says, I can play drums a bit, as can I ( a bit). The drummer is plastered We take 5 minutes to try and assess what to do. Barmen comes over, I play keyboards but can drum a bit too. Bugger me, he wasn't brilliant but he held it together really well. Punters didn't even notice

it sounds very P bass like in a band setting. I've done a couple of gigs with mine and it sounds ace. Everybody that's played it loves it.

My main gigging guitar (for my 80s thing) is a BM red special. It really is a great guitar with great sounds available from the pickups and the switching system.

A fairly quiet year for me, as I'm sort of done with buying guitars and basses except IN Fender JMJ Mustang (Awesome) P Bass bitsa ( not yet assembled!!) Fender Alternate reality Electric XII 12 string (bought for new function band, which is folding at the end of January) Vintage V58 Jerry Donahue Telecaster (again, awesome, also bought for the above function band) new Yonderbosk pickups for my Brian May red special OUT Rockinbetter 4001/3 with Ric pickups going up for sale next year, most of my 'Sting' basses from my Police tribute

I would look at an Ashdown Rootmaster (RM) combo. I have the RM500 evo 2 head. I love it. Used to use Ampeg but wanted to go British (I know the RM is made in China) Not too expensive, even new

yep the room. I used to play a pub called, The who'd have thought it, in Kent. Best bass sound ever. Every gig. Same rig used everywhere but in that room, awesome
