  1. I mt up with a fellow bassist the other day, I bought a Rick higain pickup from him. On my clank journey he was telling me about his Ricks and amps He played me a clip on something he was working on, plugged into a V4B. It sounded amazing Who has experience of both of these amps please, I feel it should be the Ampeg all the way For my tribute gigs when I'm not supplying PA and lights, I would consider one of these amps your thoughts my learned friends
  2. It's a shame and as a JHS endorsee, where will I get my strings from now The MD is past retirement age but was still working when I last spoke with him. He was, in fact, the rep that visited the shop I worked in back in the last 80s early 90s Also a shame for the staff, I know what it's like trying to sell a business and sometimes it's just easier to close it down but it leaves people out of work Good luck to the staff and to the MD in retirement
  3. Here's some videos I think I'm there or there abouts
  4. 9th good for me too just over two hours away
  5. I'm the same. I would take my hb to an audition if I thought it the right thing. If they were snobby I'd walk
  6. Yep i think thats sort of true with some people
  7. I've recently commisioned a Rickenbacker 4003. It's awesome and it says Rickenbacker on it I really don't care I have one of my U2 basses made from parts and the neck says Fender Jazz bass, in the old fashioned TV logo (but it has dots, so obviuosly wrong) There's not really a right answer unless you're trying to rip somebody off
  8. absolute class. Love it I'm so pleased for you all
  9. Have had a custom made Andy Crockett 5 string but sold it Ibanez MC 940 and because of the Police tribute a natural and a red P bass. sold the natural one but still have the red one, although it's got a fretted jazz neck on it atm, waiting to be painted gold sparkle for the U2 thing Will put the fretless neck on body routed for p bass and MM pickups at some point here's a pic of the custom bass. EMGs
  10. ah so you have both pickups on are they full up? wide open tone etc? sounds good too, nice playing
  11. When I posted about my 4003HW in a new bass day thread, there were many comments about the clank. How do you Rick users get your clank. Both pickups, volume rolled back on one of them? I'm curious, I like my bass, it sounds good but I've never really been a 2 pickup player. Always a P bass you see TIA for your top tips
  12. I'm interested depending on whether gigging or not
  13. I love it. I would buy the expensive one and gig with it But the sound doesn't really work for me, I've had Singrays and love them to play. Pino is one of my favourite players
  14. I might tell 'em who's coming next for example, 'IT'S WHAM! TIME' or after 2 or 3 classic 80s songs I might say, 'with all this going on, we need some Spandau' Just before the Bucks Fizz number I sometimes recount my audition with them but mostly me and the keys player are just laughing all the time
  15. i watched the hyde park gig when I got in from my own gig. truly exceptional and Lee's bass playing.....what can i say?
  16. thanks everyone, perhaps that's why they've never worked for me. I had too much relief. I shall embrace the clank
  17. I've read that some people set their Rik basses up with no relief in the neck My HW has little relief and rattles a bit. Is this part of the clank that we all desire It plays really nice but if I dig in, (and I do, especially playing Jam songs) it gets a bit messy The bass is literally brand new ( I only ordered it 4 weeks ago) and will probably settle a bit, I have no prblem adjusting truss rods etc your thoughts please
  18. if people ask me, 'can I have a go' and I tell them 'no' and they get funny, I tell them, 'it's like me asking to have a go on your girlfriend/wife/boyfrien/husband/partner' they usually get the message
  19. I remember selling basses like this in 1990/91 Always prefered them to the soundgear things there were some lairy colours too
  20. if that was the reason (a very understandable one) why did they just not give it their answer was evasive
  21. yes I've got to go back and listen to Blue murder too. Sykes was one of my guitar heroes
  22. Just having a listen to some stuff by The Firm Great bass work from TF. I've never really listened to him before Any fans here?
  23. when I saw him at the bass show, someone asked him about flats. He scoffed at the idea so it'll be rounds on his bass
  24. we support each other. We are a team I'm lucky in that my wife adores me and also is a musician she has 3 pianos, two acoustic guitars, 2 Ibanez 6 stringers, 2 P basses, a bass collection thing me I have about 30 assorted guitars and we have rooms to put them all in I fancied a Rik recently, for the Jam tribute, she said get it, so I did we don't hide anything from each other, as we've discovered again recently Life is short (Bro-in law RIP 56 years old and dog walking friend, 63 just the other week) Be kind to each other
