  1. just can't beat posting up my favourite bass. I bought this in Denmark St in 1990, advertised as late 60s. £450. So I traded a Shure SM58 wireless and my Aria SBR-150 and fifty quid. The serial number suggests approx 1975 which until recently I acknowledged. Then, whilst on a forum (here or TB) there was a thread about the bridge being in the wrong place (approx 71-73 IIRC) and the screw on the G string being extra long to compensate. So I looked at the original bridge (now on a bitsa) and there it was, the long screw. Then I looked at the original pickup (that went open circuit many moons ago) and there was 73 on it. So I'm going with '73. It's light too Pots were changed before a recording session in the 90s, they weren't even soldered in properly. I've no idea if they were original anyway. Under the bridge is a little of the sunburst but this has been painted by hand I reckon, long long before I bought it. This, for me, is the finest sounding and playing P bass. Everyone who plays it says the same, what a great bass, even those that aren't keen on p basses. I had a '62 at the same time. I bought it about '89/'90. I sold it a few years later as the '73 was just hands down better.
  2. @Beedster you're welcome to try my Bravewood Sting replica. I'm in Deal. It has a seymour duncan, stacked single coil, wired in series. Alder body
  3. I've seen this band in my local. He has a couple of those basses, leds at al
  4. I bought a fretless maple board P bass neck from EYguitar parts. It was cheap and very good. Worth a look I reckon but they're not listing any jazz necks atm, disappointing
  5. it's always a long season isn't it and we started so well last season.....................
  6. COYI welcome Jon. The vintage brand is very good bang for buck. I have 3 six string guitars atm but some years ago, arranged a V4B for my brother. I was amazed how good it was out of the box. I have no modern Squier knowledge
  7. The RM500EVO II is a fabulous amp. I love the drive control, just a small amount for added grind
  8. mine was exchanged for a new one. No problem with it since. It sits in my studio now as I have moved to Ashdown RM500 but I still love the ampeg and use it for practising. It did over 300 gigs before I bought the Ashdown
  9. my first pf500 went wrong immediately. The replacement is still rocking some 8 years later. Great amp, great sound
  10. +1 for the vintage stuff. VJ74. I have 3 guitars from Vintage are they're all top notch
  11. Ghosts is a great song and I always played my fretless on it
  12. yes, good luck. I've actually found two basses this way
  13. getting back to the topic, I don't think the OP is at fault here at all. This, 'so what do you want to do' is a nonsense thing because it doesnt really ask anything, because there seems to be no context. The best thing to do would be to phone or have a zoom/skype chat IMO
  14. I was lucky enough to play in a Jam tribute for a bit. I realised then how much of an influence BF was to me. Most of the fills I would do were very similar to Bruces.
  15. He played the song 'Ghosts' on a fretless precision. He put marks on the fingerboard so he would be in tune when he recorded it
  16. still got mine, I was playing it at work the other day. nicely worn it after about 150 gigs
  17. I have both the ampeg PF-500 and Ashdown RM500 EVO II. These days the Ashdown is my goto. It's VERY light and sounds fab. Ampeg is now my spare and unused in 2 years
  18. the vintage V74 or V74/75 would fit the bill. RRP about £350 but plenty for sale for less, plus 2nd hand too
  19. what do the numbers say on the bottom of the pickup?
  20. Unless I could something more expensive............................... that's fab
  21. He's funny is NB. He posted pictures of his Hollyhocks last summer. They were very tall. Mine were good this year, so I posted a picture on FB and tagged Nick. He came back with a picture of his, as tall as his house!! Hollyhocks envy lol
  22. I had a duff bass for a while. this one. Sold it without ever really playing it so I have no idea about the TBX thing
  23. I recently got a yearning for one of these. I had one but sold it about 13 years ago. My brother has recently become a massive brian may fan. He has a great Korg era ac30, the modern BM KAT treble booster and now he has a green Red Special. He says it really is the sound. I plug mine into a vox tonelab thing. Use the treble boosted ac30 model. Works a treat
