Factory truss rod setting (minor Fender rant!)
police squad replied to geoham's topic in General Discussion
No need. It's still the most playable bass. The action is low and it doesn't rattle. I've never had a bass set up so well. If you're ever in Deal, come and have a go. -
Factory truss rod setting (minor Fender rant!)
police squad replied to geoham's topic in General Discussion
I bought a 1973 P bass in the summer of 1990. It needed a set up. I sent it to the guy I always use, Andy Crockett. He set it up and I haven't touched the truss rod ever. I have done a lot of gigs with the bass and apart from, putting a schaller 3D bridge on, changing the pots and half the pickup, it's still the same original set up. He stoned the frets and they are quite low, but they haven't worn down in all this time. I suppose it could be just a very stable bit of wood and it's not really subjected to serious temperature change -
yep sounds fine to me too. Differences in pickups would probably be the thing here. Both sound just like a P bass, the 2nd bass sounds more scooped

I think the high mass bridge adds a little more depth to the tone, when played with a pick, or the original bridge has more treble

I have and use QSC K12 x2 and for bigger gigs I add 2 x KSUB. In total its 4K. It cost 3000 pounds just over 7 years ago. The K12s I use in my 80s duo and they are superb, even on their own I love it to bits and have used it outside to quite large crowds, many times. People always comment on the sound. Totally reliable too, never had a problem I use it with an Allen & Heath ZED-FX22

He came to my stand to try my amps out. He was playing them, flat out, for about 10 minutes during the 'quiet time'. A lovely guy and it really drew a crowd too

I probably have more money tied up in guitars than basses. When I was making valve amps about 15 years ago, I started building up a collection of guitar to take to shows, so I could demo my amps with all sorts. first up is my 1989 PRS signature guitar. This is a great guitar Then there is my bitsa strat, there with Uli. 1979 LP Deluxe My Gibson AFD Les Paul ( really good) There's a 67 SG jr, an old Ovation shallow bowl with cutaway, a couple of Vintage brand guitars (3 actually) I love em all

Yes, in my last proper pub band, I have depped on bass, depped on guitar. Then I joined as the rythym guitar, ended up being the singer, then Wheb the original bass player passed away, I took over playing the bass 03 Ever shared a stage with a musical hero of yours? Yes, played at a Marshall amps demo in 1991, Geoff Whitehorn joined us for the 2 nd set 04 Any fan ever had a tatoo of your band's logo? Not that I'm aware 05 Ever signed an autograph in a dressing room? Yes, loads 06 Ever cried on stage? Almost. The pub band previously mentioned, when we lost the bass player (and last original member) to cancer, we did a gig the following day. We set his gear up, I played bass. Many many people came to the gig to show to pay their respects. I shed a tear just as we finshed 07 Ever worn a hat on stage? Sometimes 08 Ever gigged with a band you hadn't met before the gig? Many times, but the last time was the best. Chris Slade (AC/DC) was playing drums 09 Ever been in a relationship with a fellow band member? Yes. 10 Ever played in different bands on the same day? Yes. 11 Ever had anything thrown at you while playing? Yes, a bottle. Hit me in the back, thrown by a tw@t that played in another band 12 Ever crashed on the way to the gig? I've been rear ended by the guitar player on the way to a gig, many moons ago 13 Ever left a band over the choice of set list? yes 14 Ever slept in the venue despite it not being a hotel? No, 15 Ever been supported by a band clearly better than you? Yes. 16 Ever played a gig suffering from some debilitating medical condition? Yes, as mentioned, gastro enteritis 17 Ever been in a band where the guitarist was your favourite bandmate? Yes, 18 Ever played in the grounds of a stately home? Yes. 19 Ever injured yourself on stage? Not massively 20 Ever been told that your bass isn't loud enough? Yes.

police squad replied to mcnach's topic in Bass Guitars
It's very light, very resonant and has a BIG neck. I havent gigged it for a couple of years now but I keep hold of it because it's not really worth selling. It owes me just over 350 quid and I'm hoping that I'll find a gig that needs a Glam-rock bass -

It was made by Retrovibe, it's a Renegade. It was a prototype body and neck which I bought from them with this finish, I believe one more was made in this colour and is owned by 12 string bassist who is on BC. It has checkerboard binding too!! -

Agreed. I wanted a rickenbacker copy that I had, so sound like a precision. It was basswood, bolt-on neck, r/wood board. I placed the P bass pickup in the correct spot and hey presto, instant P bass
