1.
I rather like these, work well on both Rick and Fender, not too taught, not too loose, well, for me anyway http://www.ebay.co.u...K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I'll keep them in mind, thanks Karl
 2.
Should it have flats though? It's a Flea signature model, and what with Flea being known for slapping, I'm guessing that was a factor in its design. So flats on a slap machine?
I'm sure that somewhere in this thread it says that Flea actually had flats on it when he recorded with it. Mine now has dead rounds on it and it sounds fab, so if I can work out which flats to use I may switch but I'm daunted by all the stuff about tension etc. I've used Roto swing bass for most of my career and am used to that tension (45-105). I've got flats on my hofner, La Bella, deep talking bass and they are great. I had Picato flats on my Jack Cassady and didn't really like them but I don't know why. I had Steve Harris flats on my Steve Harris WHUFC bass but they were too heavy and when the truss rod broke they sent me a new Steve Harris bass but with fender rounds fitted (The flats are in the gig bag) and I prefer the feel. any 'flats' advice always welcomed
 3. I have one of the ltd union jack basses. strung with la bella flats. excellent 'thud' sounds from it but I haven't touched it for over a year now.
 4.
I recently tried out a whole lot of basses and visually they all looked top drawer but I found them to be (IMO) a load of old toilet. Its the same old thing........try before you buy unless you know for a fact its a winner. You have one working bass that is functioning ok so take your time. If its just a back up you need then get something cheap as you can warrant going for now. Apart from breaking a string whats going to go wrong with a precision? (unless there is a whole saga I know nothing off!)
My p bass pickup went open circuit at a gig. That means no sound. Its the reason I now carry a spare bass. Although atm my main bass is my flea jazz. If one pickup dies there's always the other to get me through
 5. Rocking the 'Flea'
 6.
How do you have it set on the controlls I had mine all on the neck pick up and dialled in tone to suit the song (volume off on the bridge pot but tone fully open). As I play close to the bridge I find the bridge pickup (on any Jazz) a bit harsh.
I'm all neck pickup. both tones wide open but I sometimes dial in a little bridge for tad more cut
 7.
Used mine at a beer garden gig yesterday. Sounded great but again the amp was cranked (well 12 o'clock on Vol and Gain on an Orange Bass Terror 500) In a pub that would normaly be pealing plaster with the old Road Worn. I really need to A/B
Used mine outside too, yesterday. Played for nearly 2 1/2 hours. It sounded fab. Really really fab. I love the fizz of the single coil.
 8.
Well that is a very kind offer indeed! I'm actually up near Norwich but my OH has friends in Kent. Should we be making it down your way and I'm allowed to break away for some bass time then that's an offer I'd love to take up! Thank you!
excellent, I'm very near the train station,(if that helps) kettle's always on (well, the fridge is always full of beer)
 9.
But, where I live, that's a bit like asking to pet a unicorn. I'm doing a bit of bass related research and these two neck profiles keep popping up on my radar, but alas I've never had the chance to try them out. Asking for experiences I know will help, but as always I need to get them in my own hands to try them. Finding one is difficult, but both in the same place at the same time!! Ahhhhh!!! ha ha!! It's all fun isn't it!?
where are you dood? You're more than welcome to come and try my SH. I'm in Deal, Kent
 10. my SH west ham bass has the chunkiest of necks. I love it but my Flea bass is my goto.
 11.
I have flats on my other roadworn and love it, I was thinking of keeping rounds on this one, I don't hate them as much as I remember hating them on my P Bass. I think you should put some flats on yours and let me know how it is before I do it
what flats would you like me to try on it for you?
 12. yep +1 on usa SUB. active etc. It's an iconic sound. nothing sounds like a stingray buy one and stop dithering man
 13.
Cool. Last time I played a pub they wouldn't close the pool table or move it from it's position of the obvious stage. Did the Ash fair any better?
Certainly did. Although a pub, it's a proper music venue too
 14.
Are you talking about Jamie?
er, yes
 15.
Was it the Martin Turner WA or Andy Powell WA?
Martin Turner is not allowed to use the 'Wishbone Ash' moniker anymore. He must state that it's Martin Turner, formerly of WA etc It was Andy Powell. Seen them a few times now. They're always very good
 16.
I've used mine for 3 gigs now. Sounds great, nice and light, totally replaceable if it walks which my other basses aren't, roadworn so not botherd leaving it stood against amps or getting knocked on the drum kit. The only thing I have noticed is my amp is higher, not sure if that's just because of the different venues we have been playing or the output of the pickups is less than my other roadworn, not had chance to A/B them yet. Very happy so far, I hope it keeps wearing and breaking in like my other roadworn has.
If it's anything like mine, it sounds better as the strings deaden. I'm now thinking of some flats. I used it again 3 times over the weekend. I do love it. I've not had a bass for many years, that I look forward to playing live.
 17. I have a funny story about Wishbone Ash. Basically I first saw them in about 1987/8 when they toured the original line up. They had another guitarist helping, because Ted Turner hadn't learnt all the set yet. My then G/F chatted up the said guitarist and went home with him. They got married. I met him years later and told him this. It's all very funny and a long time ago. He was at last nights gig!! It's always lovely to see him
 18.
Nice! One of our BC members depped for Bob Skeat on a WA tour some years back when was a member of a WA tribute.
Yes I saw him in Deal. Ashbone U wish. He did an excellent job
 19. Last night, my band, Live n Kickin supported Wishbone Ash, in a pub. They were awesome. What a great night out. Just thought I'd share
 20. I did 3 gigs over Saturday and Sunday with mine. Absolutely fabulous. I even used the bridge pickup (almost on its own, just dialled in a little neck) on 'Two Tribes'. £ totally different genres of music, from 60's, the Who, Beatles, Stones, Kinks, through 80s/90s stadium rock to Classic rock last night. This really is a lovely sounding bass. I've not played many basses where the bridge pickup can match the neck so well. All I can say is, it must be luck of the draw. I've been in shops and noodled around for ages on different basses but I can only really tell after a proper gig, if it will work for me. I even introduce 'Flea' before the one RHCP song that we do
 21.
Bloody Hell Martin, that's impressive, thanks for that. I can hardly see the neck, never mind the squiggles
unfortunately, my old P bass has been sweated on so much that my numbers have all but disappeared. When I first looked at them. there wasn't the internet information for dating these numbers. I never wrote them down or photographed them, so I'll never really know what year it is. I changed the pots in the early 90s, before going into the studio and there is nothing definate on the pickups either, (one of which I changed too) That's a nice looking Jazz though
 22. Karl, that neck date 02= jazz bass 03= fretted maple neck (or rosewood board with skunk stripe) 10=week 10 7=1977 5=Friday
