1. I've stuck an order in with EY. Cheap enough, we'll see. I may also try the Mojo ones. I'll do a few gigs with the EYs first. I have gigged my Tbird twice now. 2nd gig was better as I set it up better for my playing style. The Gibson pickups dont sound too bad but they lack a little sparkle. I had the preamp clipping nicely on the 2nd gig and it was quite entertaining (for me anyway)
2. I've just bought a white Thunderbird from Paul. Lovely bloke with a lot of lovely basses, which he got out to show me. (Love the Lull JAX) Makes great coffee and we chewed the fat for over an hour Top Bloke Martin
3. yes. I recently bought a 1985 series 2000 and love it.
4.
Personally I'd go for Nickel- hipshot do some mini clovers for modern T-birds, and I got a nickel three pointer for about £35. I'll keep an eye on this thread as I might upgrade the pickups in your old T-bird too, Police Squad!
Have you used it much?
5.
I think these are the ones the guys over at LBO got moist over recently.
what output would I go for, 8K or 9.2K Nickel or chrome? What's the finish on the white TB Nancy Johnson? It's black isn't it? At those prices, they've got to be worth a go?
6. So, good people of the forum, on Wednesday I shall be collecting a Gibson Thunderbird. I am thinking about replacement vintage pickups for it Does anyone have any experience of the 'Mojo' pickups? https://www.mojopickups.co.uk/product/thunderbird-bass/ any other suggestions welcome.
7. very nice, just like mine GLWTS
8.
Sorry. You didn't say that you were looking to be "convinced" - just asking for suggestions as you couldn't think of any. Maybe try being a bit more specific in your questioning if you wish for a specific answer. BTW, what would convince you?
I'm not actually bothered what the OP thinks. This has been a most enlightening thread. I never knew Keef played bass on anything. It probably explains why I like some rolling stones basslines and can't make head or tail of others
9. yep, I've met up in many motorway services to do deals. Recently I sold my spector to a guy from Sweden who was touring here. Always a pleasure to meet the buyers and sellers
10. I gigged with one for years. It was USA made, so was my transporter cab. Eventually I sold it as it was playing up a bit (intermittent crackle and I couldn't find it) but I had already bought another one, which I still have, set up in my rehearsal room
11. The only thing I don't like is the strap. I feel trussed up but the bass does hang really well from the boomerang thing. Maybe it's time to take it out on a police gig again
12. yep, still loving mine
13. Driven to tears is my favorite Police song. It's a real tough one to sing and play
14. looks just like me 4 string
15. Basswood is similar in sound to alder. There is plenty of difference in tone from different woods.
16. I was looking for one of these recently but ended up buying a series 2!! Great basses the 4000s were/are GLWTS
17. you could just get yourself a good P bass and route it out for a bridge pickup and add a front jazz pickup. A new scratch plate will cover up the old P bass route. Make sure your position the front pickup the correct distance from the bridge like a proper jazz bass.
18. I like his tone. Lovely grind to it.
19. Hi to you Bob, welcome to BC. Another local joins (I'm in Deal)
20. I have a hofner contempary ltd edition union jack bass. It's very nice
21. buy some rattle cans from Northwest guitars and do it your self. You never know
22. I was pleased with the master classes I saw. I have no interest in megadeath but David Ellefson was superb, he seemed a really nice guy and was interesting. I'll defo go next year because the masterclasses were more interesting than the gear. The gear is interesting, of course, but it's lovely to watch pro players saying all the things that I already thought and know. It proves either, I'm not mad or we're all barking!!!
23. A good fx loop is great for modulation fx such as chorus, delay, flanger. But not so good for fuzz fx. However, the FX loop on my ampeg PF500 is rubbish. I have, for the first time since 1996, started to use a chorus and octave pedal (for Sledgehammer, owner of a lonely heart and a muse song) and it sounded muddy. So I just stuck them in the signal path and they don't seem to rob my normal sound (much). A small difference but not really worth worrying about. When Victory amps bring put their bass amp, I have been assured that the FX loop will be fine. ( I play in 2 bands with Martin Kidd, the ex Cornford and now Victory designer)
