1. The neck on the west ham bass is lovely. Closest I've played to my old 75. Big and chunky. The bass is lovely and I love the paint job and big logo. The blue basses do come up for sale so you could hang on for one
2. Discreet, you are funny mate. Give em a good lashing, excellent. I sing and I practice. I sing along in the car and work out my phrasing but I can't be bothered to learn words, it's another stress that I just don't need. I have them printed out, very big and on the floor or against the monitor. Not every song, some I just remember and some I can't. Singing with good monitors really helps but it's learning to control your voice that is the key. My 8 years of singing Police songs has helped here. I try to balance it all. I try and sing well, know my limits and front the band (and play guitar or bass depending what I'm doing) and I've got a quality PA.
3. I've got La Bella 760s on my hofner violin bass. It just goes thud. Lovely. Some sort of picato flats on my epiphone jack Cassidy. It just goes thud. lovely. My Steve Harris 'West Ham' bass has steve harris signature flats on it. It doesn't go thud. It's almost alive with clank. I don't really understand. I've played rounds most of my life, usually Swing bass, but for a time, Elites and Rotosound 'Spacers'. I also don't really understand this tension thing that people go on about. Is there an enlightening thread I could read?
4.
Nah just the cheap £100 450w solid state
ah cool, cheers
5. Mikebass, which amp did you get? The all valve one?
6. the blue ones don't actually show up very well. My bass player in my pub band used them and they were a bit dull. She uses white ones (on her Bravewood P bass which is daphne blue) and pink ones on her white Fender P bass
7. No, but I had an original one from back then., It was a superb bass, beautifully made and so easy to play but I couldn't get on with the actives. I found it too complicated but I wish I still had it. It was custom made for the previous owner but he didn't want the funk groove in it.
8. Rogerstodge, I'll let you know if we're back there any time soon. We do play the Belvedere hotel in Belvedere (or Erith, can't quite remember)
9. Highfox, this isn't the band that wanted to replace me, that was my first Police tribute that I left. Again, thanks for the nice comments.
10. thanks for that Ubit. Very kind words
11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=kh1geYG2V6Y That's got it!!
12. As some of you know, I'm in a Police tribute. I've done two in the past 8 or so years but my current one has an amazing Copeland. There is one youtube video of us with me dropping an absolute howler but I'll try and find it I can't paste the link in. I used to be able to. aha done it now, in a slightly later post
13. all fixable, go for 250 because it needs a proper set up
14. I've auditioned twice. Once for Bernie Torme (ex Ozzy, Gillan, Atomic Rooster) It was a gig I really wanted. I knew the other members really well but I didn't get it. The guy that got it was utter cr*p but he had a white thunderbird. I dressed how I was adviced to. I don't regret it, it was great experience and I've since gigged with Bernie (would you believe in a wedding band). The other audition I went to for fun. A very well known local band with a great following and playing very good, original material. Again, I knew most of the band, I'd played with the drummer and bassist before (I was on guitar for this one). They were fairly grungy but I turned up in cowboy boots and denims. Got the job and changed my attire to suit the band. Got the sack about 18 months later!! Only time I've been sacked
15. I'd like to think he can still manage. Whole lotta love was good
16. Rock n Roll sounded a bit weird (at the end). All a bit too low, so I picked up my guitar and they had detuned a whole step and a half
17. I've finally watched it. Good isn't it. I saw Page and Plant together, in London, with the Egyptian drum band and that was damn good too. Jason Bonham nailed it IMHO Your thoughts fellow BCs
18. if you listen carefully to every little thing she does is magic you can her the upright on the intro and also on every breath
19. AFAIK he did buy his first fretless and gigged it that evening. Why can't I use the quote button . I press it but it doesn't do anything
20. Sting played a few fretless basses during the police. 2 different precisions, Ibanez Musician, a very rare custom built Ibanez Musician with a natural body and maple board, Hamer Blitz 8 string fretless, There was also a fretted Ibanez Musician, not forgetting he used a Steinberger L2 in 1982 and the lovely White Spector NS2. There was also a 60s Precision (fretted) used in the Monserat documentary with Jools Holland and lastly the Van Zalinge upright, endearingly named 'Brian'
21. ahhh, the Police. Fabbo, well done for discovering them.
