I've finally watched it. Good isn't it. I saw Page and Plant together, in London, with the Egyptian drum band and that was damn good too. Jason Bonham nailed it IMHO Your thoughts fellow BCs

AFAIK he did buy his first fretless and gigged it that evening. Why can't I use the quote button . I press it but it doesn't do anything -

Sting played a few fretless basses during the police. 2 different precisions, Ibanez Musician, a very rare custom built Ibanez Musician with a natural body and maple board, Hamer Blitz 8 string fretless, There was also a fretted Ibanez Musician, not forgetting he used a Steinberger L2 in 1982 and the lovely White Spector NS2. There was also a 60s Precision (fretted) used in the Monserat documentary with Jools Holland and lastly the Van Zalinge upright, endearingly named 'Brian' -

ahhh, the Police. Fabbo, well done for discovering them. -
Ampeg PF-500 starting cutting out at a gig. We've got a great PA but this particular gig we'd left the subs at home. So I plugged the bass into the desk and had it come through the powered monitor which I then plugged into the 1x15 bass cab (wharfedale powered monitor, has a speaker out to run a passive monitor). It didn't sound perfect but was loud enough and had enough bottom end to finish the gig.

Try Jason at Rotosound

Just needs a hammers logo!!

I have the same problem. Loads of basses but I don't gig enough apart from the Police stuff which I have a choice of basses for that. 3 P basses, spector, Steinberger, Ibanez. Strangley I don't have a Sting J bass a-like (yet)

looks mighty fine Karl. Love the big logo, always have

you have some sort of allowance tax free but check up on it. I always buy strings when I'm in the states

What is your standard gigging set up and sound?
police squad replied to FuNkShUi's topic in General Discussion
Bass, could be any of my P basses, fretted or fretless, spector, Steinberger, Ibanez musician f/less or stagg upright. Ampeg PF-500, set flat, ultra bass switched in, mark bass club 1x15 direct into the pa. No fx. just bass, cable, amp. When I see video clips of my lot live, I'm always amazed how nice my bass sounds. -
Cool bass, glad you like it. I'd be a bit careful about the venues I gigged it in though - could well be a magnet for idiots to hassle you.
I only play in West Ham fan's venues lol. I imagine it could cause a stir in there wre a load of football F***wits present

Finally got to gig the Steve Harris bass. It was outside and a tad cold, but what a great bass. Fantastic neck but those strings. OMG. Just too heavy for me. I'm going to stick a standard 45-105 set of swing bass on it. The weight didn't bother me at all. Probably had the bass on for nearly 2 hours.

Who is gigging over the Easter weekend?
police squad replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
had I seen this before easter I could have offered The Arches venue in Coventry on good Friday followed by the Marrs bar in Worcester on Saturday but I've only just seen it -
Irrespective of the loveliness expressed in the previous comments, aren't Fender simply alienating potential buyers by selling a West Ham themed bass? Look, I'm never buying another Fender, plus I am a lifelong Chelsea supporter - through the ups and downs - and I wouldn't be seen dead with a bass, irrespective of how good it is, in West Ham livery. P
I think you're missing the point. This is not about football, it's about a bass guitar based on someone elses bass guitar. If Sting painted his bass guitar in the colours of whomever he supported AND he used it in the Police, I would buy it and use it in my Police tribute. It's about the instrument

Markbunney, I've not played the other SH basses so I can't compare. I'll take some pictures now I'm back and I'll stick it on the bathroom scales. Karl, I've got a gig in Coventry and another in Worcester over Easter weekend, if you fancy coming along, I'll bring it. (I can't gig it because Sting never used 'Arry's bass)

ok. No pics yet as I've not had the time. opened the package at approx. 4.30 and I must say, it is rather good. Fantastic paintwork, proper metal scratchplate, a bit heavy but no heavier than my Aria SBR150 I would say (I've not weighed it yet) The Hammers logo is painted on and lacquered in. The neck is a dream. Yes it is big, as big as I've played on a 70s P Bass but it's the perfect shape for me. I had a 57 reissue Les Paul that was similar. Big neck but a perfect shape. Karl, you are more than welcome to come and try it, but I'm in Dover and it's a bit of a trek but the kettle will be on. Soundwise, P bass on steroids. Flats are amazing. They have an almost roundwound zing to them but they are heavy. I love em. A very 70's contour on the back (ie not much) I'm off out again now so I will post pics later today. The fit and finish and feel of the neck are first class. If anyone dares to diss the current crop of Mex guitars I would say they don't know what theyr're talking about. £875 on interest free over 9 months, well spent. Have I been the person to buy it first in the whole of the UK?
