1. at that price I'll have to buy one. My brother's band supported Maiden on an Italian tour when Bruce first joined and I've been a SH fan ever since. Plus I support WHUFC. COYI
2. thanks folks, that is what I thought but just needed to check
3. does an octave below mean the same as a bass though?
4. How are they tuned. Are the bottom 4 strings the same as a normal bass guitar? Stupid question really but I'd like a definitive answer please.
5. apart from the mis-matched wood, I quite like it. Would prefer normal jazz bass controls and a tort guard though
6. DHL are utter sh*te. They f**k up nearly everything I have used them for.
7.
Thanks mate, hopefully all will be resolved eventually. I've seen your band advertised in various places, but never seen you. Anything local coming up?
Not really no. The Police Squad have packed up although my other other lot 'Aftershock' do get Thanet bound. Birchington USC is next. Early Feb I think
8.
Really sorry to hea about your Bro. You're spot on though mate.
Thanks M@23
9. Hey Luca, welcome. What's the 'rafo' in your name.Is it anything to with the Italian rock band called 'The Raff'?
10. easy gig for us with my pub band (not the tribute). 2 sets. 45 mins and an hour. Then the DJ takes over at 11.30. 15 mins from my house in the car. The other singer and guitarist live in the same town as the gig, poor drummer has a 45 minute drive home. Cheap beer and (usually) full of people
11. In Spector euro 4lx in white (like the Se-5) Epiphone classic pro thunderbird in white Bitsa Fretless P bass Out JV squire P bass I've learned this, (my brother passed away from Cancer, he was 49). You have to grab life and enjoy it. You only get one chance.
12. cabs lost by city link? that sucks Jay. I hope it all works out for you. GLWTS (from another south east kent player)
13. +1 on the qsc K10. I have K12s and subs and actually I wish I would have bought the K10s and the subs. Thomann do QSC at a good price too plus QSC have a six year warranty
14. I've just been to the FB page. He makes some lovely looking basses
15. I've always fancied a bass with active MM humbucker and a Passive P. Never got round to it
16. I remember watching the TV show called 'Rockschool' with Deirdry Cartwright, Henry Thomas and Paul Nicholls. They explained reggae style music in a simple form and I found it very informative. As a novice (at the bass, I played violin for 7 years before touching the bass) it was quite a good show. The only reggae/ska stuff I've done in recent years is Stir it up by Bob Marley and Amy Winehouse's version off monkey man. It's great stuff
17. yep its great fun learning loads of stuff at short notice. I learned 30 odd Jam songs in just over 2 weeks. Did 5 or 6 gigs
18.
The female singer in my function band went for a lesson with a vocal coach, the coach asked her "whats you warmup regime?" "?erm a pint of Stella and a fag?" "No no you cant have a pint of Stella before a gig!" "What about Carling?" 100% true story, never been back but she can knock out some blondie, pretenders, specials etc so its all good.
Brilliant. I've been singing for over 25 years and have only ever completely lost my voice ( at a gig) once. It was about 15 mins before the end of the 2nd set. And these days if I get a heavy cold I am at risk of losing my voice but luckily I don't get many colds. I have no special regime or tricks. I stay hydrated. This is very important. If you dehydrate, you can lose your voice. It's was from a book called the rock n roll singers survival manual (something like that). I don't smoke. I'm 46 and have no idea whether I will be able to sing when I'm 60 but I'll carry on trying. These days, though, I do use a monitor but I don't know if that really helps with the straining.
19.
Why not just go for one like Police squad's and pick/drill out the side dots you don't like, little wipe of light wood filler (couple of quid from b&q for a small tube) and just sharpie pen some dots where you do want them? Easy, and keeps your project cheap and fun.
I did this but because the laquer is tinted, you can still see the dots (which are now white). The new markers are black and slightly larger that the old ones, but under stage lights the black ones stand out so well it's not a problem. If i could be bothered with some tinted laquer i could go over the white dots and try and blend them in a little more. But as I said, it's not a problem on gigs
20. I got a fretless neck from EY parts in hong kong. It was cheap and is ok. There's a few bumps on the board and the dots are the same as a fretted neck, so I moved them. Truss rod adjustment is at the headstock and is a bit ugly but again it was only 80 (ish) US dollars
21. Markbass, Aguilar, etc etc They don't make guitar amps. What's everyone's problem with Marshall not really putting their all into bass amps.
22. I had a 50 watt superbass in the late eighties. It was an early 70s one. It sounded great. Then in about 2004 I bought a 100 watt superbass and played guitar through it with an old greebacked marshall 4x12. My cab was covered by Jim. It has his signature inside. It sounded great. Used a powerbrake with it. Swapped it for a '67 SG junior
23. look for an original. maybe even a refin then you can gig it and not worry.
