Custom built Esh "Theo Pas'cal" Signature 6 string - £700

Cheers for the comments guys. It's a top bass. Getting it out today to photograph it, I started jamming along with some Richard Bona - it has such great tone and so easy to play. I felt that the solos I were playing were just coming across so much better than usual. I guess it's the dream to have an instrument which allows you to convey your ideas as easily as possible - unfortunately, I'm more of a four and sometime five player, so it's unlikely I'll gig with this. PMs replied, some very interesting offers. Feel free to make a cash offer. -
.. and surely "every ones" should be "everyone's"
Yes, I italicised the smaller, possibly more forgivable mistakes, such as this.

Hi guys. A very interesting piece here. This is a bass as a trade from Portugeuse pro bass player Theo Pas'cal - check his Myspace for clips of this bass in action. More info on Theo here as well as his musical available on the web. You can see this bass in action in this Youtube video. He has this bass built by Esh to exacting specs while he had a sponsership deal with them. This is his actual bass, not a signature copy. I'm not 100% on the woods, unfortunately. It has some very nice Kent Armstrong pickups, a very solid bridge, and the Esh pickup switching system. Someone has already written about them on Harmony central, so I will copy what they've written. The electronics are interesting as they use a proprietary system called "Esh-tronics" which I believe are made by the company that supplies Mercedes-Benz with sophisticated electronics. There are controls for volume, tone (No separate treble and bass controls) and one pot with four detents for: bridge Pickup only; parallel, bridge with mid-boost; and, series. The fourth control pot also has four detents: studio (which bypasses volume and tone and is a direct signal from the pickups; passive; passive with piezo; and active with piezo. The piezo is adjustable from inside the cavity and a little dab'll do ya. There are 16 possible variations but I prefer to stay with series/parallel and opt for passive or active depending on the song. Slappers would love the bridge with midboost / active options. As you can see, this makes the bass extremely versatile. Whilst not as easy as conventional dialing in bass/treble, I found it ultimately more interesting to experiment. Takes a bit to get used to, but when you've found "your tone" then it's very easy! It's very nicely balanced, with a fantastic bridge. The neck is comfortable and fairly shallow. Compared to my old Ken Smith BT-6 this is pretty easy to play! The only issue with the bass (which you may have noticed) is a little laminate missing from the headstock. Personally, this doesn't worry me, and others who have seen the bass haven't even noticed it. But it can be sorted fairly easily by a luthier - the guy who is familiar with this bass, having worked on it for Theo, says he can sort that, remove the signature, and do a set-up for around £100. Of course, this is purely cosmetic and doesn't affect the bass playing or tone. I would ideally like this bass picked up, but I can ship for around £20 fully insured in the UK. Abroad will be pricier, Euro-BCers! If you want to come and play it, please do. I'm in Chelmsford Essex. I'm looking for any interesting trades on this bass. Especially Moon J Basses, original Jeff Berlin Dean sigs, Sadowskys...interesting Fenders.. I'm also open to offers. It's a really high quality pro bass, so please be reasonable I'll review the offers I get (both trade and cash) and decide what I fancy. PMs are fine, or email to mikemcgibney AT gmail DOT com. Regards Mike
Yes, I saw that when the magazine first came out and had a bit of a chuckle....
I mean, it's unbelievable, isn't it? Absolutely astronomically baffling. It's as if they were trying their damndest to look as unprofessional as possible!

Alright guys - I am reading the latest Bass Guitar Magazine, and have come across the Bass Cellar advertisement. Jesus H Christ - I have never seen such bad spelling, on such a small ad. Here are the mistakes, with smaller errors italicised. Bass Cellar - London's Leading Bass Guitar Speacialist Nothing sounds like a hollow body. Vist us to find Hofner Violins..... Mark bass amps are the leaders in light weight amps which is why we make sure we keep thier full range in stock. Asdown cover every ones needs. From thier electric blue.... GK - Vist us to see thier range of versatile amps. Warwick - Handcrafted in Germany using exotic tone woods, these supperb basses start at just £599. Pretty piss-poor, no?
However, today every single person I came into contact with could not have been more helpful, friendly and genuinely appeared pleased to serve me with a smile. I have no idea whether this is because they have a really stringent employment policy, a great motivational manager or just that it's a group of people who vaguely enjoy their work.
I guess that whatever the means, it's irrelevent - the good customer service is extremely important and whatever the means, it's worthwhile!
I hope the Bass Cellar learn this soon, or they might just go the way of the Bass Centre which is bad for choice for bassists in London.
Part of me couldn't give a sh*t whether they learn this or not. From my experience, they deserve to go out of business. Remember guys - The Bass Merchant! Not far from London, and since being taken over, much more active online!

I recently purchased a bass from the Bass Merchant, in Colchester, Essex. Now in new hands, after being run by Mike Walsh of Iceni Zoot (with whom I had/have an excellent relationship, and bought several thousand pounds worth of Markbass Gear/Warwick Basses), it is a very friendly, open shop. As far as I understand it, Darren is the boss, and Chris is a very friendly chap who works there also. I was treated extremely well when I went to the new premises - a warm welcome, a free coffee and great service - not overbearing salesmen, but not disinterested workers - they seemed interested in what I was after, and let me play practically any bass in the shop. Very relaxing, very pleasant. I queried a price on a particular bass and Darren found there has been a small error and instantly changed it, to what appears to be a very competitive price - I couldn't find cheaper on the net. A query I sent through was handled by Darren over email even though he was in France, and Chris has rung me a few times and even texted off his personal phone to keep me up to date with something. I feel it's a shop where if I had a problem with gear, they'd sort me out. And I'd buy again - even if it were slightly more expensive, often it's worth the extra to know that if you have a problem, you'll get a genuine response, and not a "it's not our problem" attitude. EDIT: As I was typing this, I see the Bassmerchant has posted! I'm not affiliated, to clarify!!
Oh right, sorry, I thought you said he played a Fodera......this elusive Tony Grey Si
No, as far as I know, the bassist is a guy called Tony Grey. Although he's apparently with Yamaha, he can often be seen with a Fodera. Hope that clears things up!

To the gentleman who posted from Music Ground: I think it's all very well to say the majority of your customers are happy - but we of the bass-playing community who have experienced The Bass Celler have put our thoughts across on the shop, and one can infer that the vast majority have had a negative experience. I don't know where these happy customers are. I don't think I have read a single good review of a purchase experience at the store. Regards, Mike
