1. Amazing story! Tell us more about JK's house and studio!
2. You know, Ray, people round here seem to really rate the OLP Tony Levins - yet when I sold mine (which was 'as new') about a year ago, no-one was interested! The price was £180 or even below before it finally went! Both these are nice basses, so have a bump!
3. Wow - a Sadowsky sixer. Nice! Linky!
4. My jazz with matching headstock, Shuker preamp, side led dots, and nordstrand fatstacks was in the region of £1450.
5. Where are you travelling from?
6. I flew back direct from Phoenix Skyharbor, Arizona to London Heathrow with BA, and they were absolutely terrific. Going through customs Stateside, I attracted only amused glances and a few questions from staff, including an "Oh, I love Paul McCartney" ! When I got on the place, the staff ushered me to First Class (I was obviously travelling cattle class!) and put the bass (in a hard case) in the coat cupboard. 9 hours later as I exited it was waiting for me by the door. Fantastic, easy service from BA, despite the idiots on the phone not having a clue what to suggest to me before I went to the airport. Good luck!
7. Just out of interest what is the string spacing?
8. South East eh? Is he ever available in Essex?
9. He seems an ace guy. Where is he based? Thought he was from Norn Iron!
10. I know what you mean...almost like a Slash chord - e.g. G/E, G/D, G/C.
11. ped, mp3fiesta seems incredibly cheap. Like, $0.50 for an entire Pat Metheny album. It's all legit, right?
12. Always been brilliant for me! Finally, a company we can all praise!
13. You shallow thing, John!
14.
The Bass Centre, Service or NOT
Oh, that's easy. 'Not'.
15. I had mine couriered, no problem. Any minor set up tweaks I can make myself. It arrived perfect pretty much, just down a smidge on the action and that was me.
16. Just a note - I'd recommend you don't put your email on the post like this. Trolls gather this information from the internet and will bombard you with spam email. I tend to write my email in this format: jkhamler (AT) googlemail (DOT) com or some variation. Most people will figure it out. Alternatively you can write [email protected]!
17. I was watching that bass. I used to own one, and gigged with it regularly. Just go for it - it's a tool (and a very nice one) and you'll kick yourself if it gathers dust at home. Just take care of it at gigs, watch it like a hawk etc!
18. Yep, a bunch of cretins in the main, very sad.
19. Okay...I'm actually after a fretted bass. And I'm steering cleer of ebony after what Jon's said to me. I'd like a dark wood, so no birdseye maple.
20. Thanks for the input, all. Here are some pics of woods - I'm waiting for Jon to send me more specific pictures of his stocks. Macassar: Ziricote: Indian Rosewood:
21. Hi all! I'm wondering if you fine people can suggest a nice fingerboard wood from my upcoming custom. It's built by Jon Shuker (www.shukerguitars.co.uk). It's going to a 5 string Jazz, designed to pretty much match my first 4 string he built me - shown here! My five string will be made of the same woods, but have a red finish, with matching headstock. I will have pearl block inlays as well. My question is this: What wood shall I use for the fingerboard? I'm looking for something quite dark, but with a really interesting grain/figure to it. Ideally it will have some red mixed in, to match, but NOT overpower the red finish! I have considered Macassar, Ziricote and Bocate, all of which look tremendous. Can you give me your thoughts on these three, pros and cons, and any other suggestions you may have, ideally supported by pictures? Thanks in advance! Regards, Mike
22. Remember, "Here comes the Bride" is a perfect fourth!
23. This is fascinating, Pete. What harmony book did you get from Jeff?
24. What a nice guy you are, Lenny!
