Posted this clip before but… This guy… disgustingly talented git and all round bluddy nice chap who thoroughly deserves all the success he’s worked so hard for. Taught me a lot back in the day (most of which I seem to have forgotten…maybe because he’s a left handed with his strings upside down…). Enjoy…

No, tried a few before buying the GA. It’s still branded as a Supernatural on the back of the headstock and is essentially the same bass as the Classic and Series 1 etc - same electronics and pickups - but with a longer neck and slightly downsized body. I always liked the fact that they were different from the norm and, compared with other custom builds they were, (and still are I believe) extremely good value for money.

Mine was commissioned in January 2007 and arrived in May 2008. Not bad by current wait times. I noticed there’s a guy on YouTube with what looks like an identical bass but mine was the first! 😉 It’s a GA24 with a few custom options and, of course, the revised headstock shape.

Quick answers; 1) Yes, I have a custom GA24 2) Not if you use a decent stand (Hercules or similar) - the point isn’t too long 3) Yes / no Be aware that the slightly closer pick up placement from the Classic / Series 1-3 models results in quite a different and distinct sound. More tightly focused to my ears.

How come opinions of price are all over the Yammy BB thread when someone posts a link to one on sale on a different platform? I see no difference here. Taking down the Empathy post and pictures kinda makes this whole conversation worthless. Why not just edit out that particular part of the post instead if it’s against rules??

I use a double sliding door wardrobe that we bought from John Lewis. The top shelf height in each half is perfect for standing my flight cases upright. On the left side I also keep my flight cased pedal board and 2x RH750 heads. On the right hand side I’m able to store both my 210 cabs under the shelf the basses stand on. The only modification I made was to use a spare shelf as reinforcement under the bass shelf in each side supported with 4 brackets each.

Deacon Blue at the Eventim Apollo last night. Top quality musicianship, especially from Dougie Vipond on drums (one of my all time favourite drummers). Lewis Gordon was on bass and double bass duties with what looked like a Sandberg PJ. Great show with a good mix of old classics and newer stuff. Ricky Ross still has an incredible voice and stage presence at 63, he didn’t take any short cuts to avoid the big notes. Sheer class.

20th Anniversary Stingray 5 in action during our recent 24 night Hallowe’en residency at Shocktoberfest.

22 shows in 30 days - final 2 shows this coming Friday and Saturday. 3x 45 minute sets each night = just under 50 hours on stage in total so far. It’s been an absolute blast and I’ve shed 7 pounds in weight to boot. We have 4 nights off this week. I’ve forgotten what a quiet evening in feels like!

14 shows down, 10 to go. We did 5 straight nights last week and it’s 6 this week and 6 again next week. Physically demanding but great fun. Plus we get to perform with the Naughty Nurses (and sundry other characters) every night!

First weekend of Tulley’s Shocktoberfest done - Friday and night and Saturday night. Great vibe and fantastic costumes from the actors around the park. 2 nights down, 22 to go!

He’s a class act, supremely talented and a nice bloke to boot. Deserves all his success. I used to hang out with him and the other guys from Rock Bottom in Croydon - he got me into their ‘house band’ Skittle Alley as he didn’t want the gig (not his kind of music at the time, it was rock/funk ironically). He also threw up in the back of my brand new car on the way back from a gig at the Lazy Toad in Beckenham. Took months for the smell to wane… Anyway, I’ll just park this here:

I cannot bear the complete inability of some musicians (from any instrument discipline) to keep quiet between songs. But it’s 9 times out of 10 the guitarist in my years of experience. Learn your settings/effects/changes ad infinitum before the gig and if you need to retune between songs just mute yourself. It’s not difficult… Nothing worse than inane knob twiddling or egotistical fret w*nkery between songs when there should be disciplined quiet whilst the next song is introduced. Or, even better, segue cleanly and professionally into the next song. You don’t fork out 150 quid for top name tickets to see them p*ssing around unprofessionally before the first set or between songs. Neither should the causal pub goer or wedding guest be subjected to this. Anyway, rant over… 😡😂

I have one of the HH 20th Anni models. Fantastic bass, so versatile.

The Audacity

Played a small warmup gig at the end of June and next up is Tonbridge River Walk on the 10th September. After that we have a 24 night run from 1st October up to Halloween at our annual* Shocktoberfest residency. (* except for last year, of course…)

Now that would have made for an interesting conversation during load in and set up!

I never tried. But probably only once, like the proverbial elephant! 😄
