Actually Boss oc2 or boss oc 3, Maybe delay, Moog ring mod, Moog 101, wah? (actually all moog are great) chorus, flanger tremolo? It all depend on music you play, and how much you want to spend. I you are not familiar with effect and its use I recommend you to start with small multi-effect and than check out other player sound and ask research what you dig. It does necessary means check out just bass players. But than also check out effect good for bass because quality is what you looking for. just check out how many distortion pedals are there and how many of them are crap or not great for bass ? most so you have to be careful with spending but understand that quality cost and sometimes it means it might cost as new bass but I prefer to invest in the sound, amp, bass more than have loots of cheap basses amps and effects that kill the sound make weird noises even the levels are down...But it does not mean that I am right at all it is just point of view.. I am myself buying now TC Electronics nova delay, Moog 101 just because I love that sounds and it is quality and suits my paying, I have checked it and it is gonna be with me for ever so i like it and recommend it but as said before you might not like it. And with all rest of effects is amazing Boss OC3, Moog ring mod with express, Moog 101,Tc Electronics nova delay, Compression. And it does not mean that this effect will be switched on all the time ...not at all I am careful when I switch it on (otherwise I would get fired )

Jazz v. Precision Bass- question from [relative] newbie
matejj53 replied to barnettiuk's topic in Bass Guitars
I think that compering those 2 basses is like compering Rhodes to Acoustic piano. Completely different instruments as a bass-guitar might looks same and more thinks on jazz but listen to both completely different instrument.I would love to have both Jazz and Precision just because of that. I have Jazz bass, Every now and than I play P bass it makes me play completely different way on different instrument. Do you agree? M -
Hi, Look up my threads I have picture in there too sir. I am after TC electronics nova delay and reverb, DOD meatbox, Mooger fooger low pass filter.

I am selling my Rolland V-Bass system, with pickup , cables and gig bag. Well looked after, used in clean non smoking environment All ready to set up and use. Great multi-effect unit: Roland top quality effects- Reverb, delay (with tap control), distortion, fuzz, overdrive, Wah, autowah, with built in food control pedal which can be used as volume, chorus, phaser, tremolo, harmoniser, octaver, delay loop, compressor, limiter. Easy to set up effects and you can use this with or without GK3 B just like any multi effects. you have from 4 to 6 possible switches for effects and you can use all effects at the time. preset 99 presets all done by manufacturer and easy to reset to your preferences. Cosm AMP: you can use this directly to PA and choose one of many options from most popular models of amplifiers, marshall, SWR, Fender....models. with same control as original. great to use as I have written straight to PA or desk in recording session. You do not need Direct box. Cabinets:there are lots of to choose from models like 15 inch ,2 x 15,4x10.... As midi it sets to really different direction the quality of the effect are great. You can basically choose from different bass models and pickup preset your sound so if you have p bass but you want jazz bass tone or music man there it is. Presets of acustic bass. your bass basically belongs to midi controller and you choose sounds. You can than link this to other midi systems like GR-20, even your computer. it is great you want to sound like fretless and you have 1 guitar or you travel and don't have much space. it is all there. You really do not need different effects at all as it is there. But you can choose more electronic sounds end experiment with it if you like that kind of stuff so possibilities are huge. This is used item and have some scratches in the bask. the construction is metal so it is strong and it is build to last.there is not any damage to it and it is fully working. I never had any problems with it, never fell down or never fell anything on it, used in non smoking environment and looked after. If you would like to see the item you can come to my house any time I live in Leicester. sale : £250 plus postage or free collection...
In that case, my original suggestion of a teacher is a good one. If you cant afford that, then there are 100's of clips on You Tube for all kinds of technique. Google "Scott Devine bass lessons". Great all round site, including technique. Here is another; http://www.musictrai...m/lessons/bass/
I agree Scott Devine lessons are great. And there are lots of crap online but also really good exercises.I recommend you to also google many masterclasses like John Pattituci, practice at really slow tempos like 60 bpm, \I found really good exercise also john recommend get metronome at 35 bpm and play 1 note per beat just 4 notes from 15 minutes to half hour, pay attention to right hand....this is not most enjoyable but great exercise, you see results after practice. Great for concentration. Look up John Pattituci Lessons there are not allot but are good. Remember practice as slow as you can and (really)concentrate at the beat that will improve your timing. transcribe bass player you like: lines, try to play them that good than you will hear just one line on the cd or video so you play that line exactly try to learn melodies from music you like forget just about bass lines, transcribe piano, guitar that improves your technique allot and also your hearing. I recommend also james brown bass lines that will be great for your right hand. try to to all exercises with different techniques scales, finger, palm muting...etc Make your own exercises I recommend Janek Gwizdala online bass lessons too. there are lots of good bass lessons but try to come with your own one for your own voice it is good to have own sound and know all the techniques. I have seen that you have exercise book I heard it is very good but remember this exercises and practice them every day , or as much as you can and pick up those which you have trouble with try to not practice just ones you already great at. Those exercises are the ones to stick with you and if you don't like some try to change them to your own. those exercises are usual avery day practice tool for working bass player. All of those people above have great exercises too so you have lots to practice .. take care Matt

I have V bass. There are different options. The bass wood does little effect on it but not much if you use devided pickup. it depends purely than on your setting. I have tried it on fretted and fretless bass and results where different, as you would expect fretted sounded fretted fretless sounded fretless. The re are different options like organ effects and many more I would be here until tomorrow. Then you also can mix it on the pickup volume wet/ dry signal and that would depend on your bass much more. You can put it in any bass. the upside you do NOT Have to use pickup to use it as multieffect. The effect unit work perfectly as any multi-effect with all the effect as any other with great quality and sound that is how I usually use it. The problem is than if you want to use it. i have attached it without screws as I don't like to have holes in my bass.. and it worked really good. Those effects are going now much cheaper than before use to be £1000 now you could find some from £150 but there are problems with those. i sell mine for £250 as I need quick sale all included ,V-bass,cables, gk3, ...I payed full price and it hearts me selling it for that price but have to be done I am not using it I would be happier someone use it. New model is expensive and I have not tried one of those But I have seen some videos looks like good toy.

I have a good bass and I have a good amp... Why do I need a pedal?
matejj53 replied to bassickman's topic in Effects
Having effect does not mean you necessary use it all the time. It allows you to play more dynamic having better sound creates effect of whole band. That is why you use effect. It is like changing strings some people do like it some do not until they broke..... So there is no right no wrong question and judgin is wrong -

Stringing a 5 with E to C, - any issues?
matejj53 replied to zipideebass's topic in Repairs and Technical
I changed mine E/ C last year. I tried it again with low b and it lasted day and fI returned to e-c.issues for me : Yes you need set up after just adjust the bass properly at the beginning. So maybe give it to professional unless you don,t mind to spend some time on it. Strings: none sells 5 stringers set and they make your tone.I personally now need to change strings every 2 month (at least) they sound dead, but I play hours every day and use fast fret() that helps allot) I recommend sound of D'addario. and it is up to you what you prefer I had 0,28 to 0.95 and just changed to 0,32 to 1,05. It does not look different at all but sound is different I don't think it is right or worst just different and its up to you but once you put string on you set up if you change them set up again. The sound than depend also o amp and cab and better amps help your tone to be natural because many amps have EQ different and can make high c not sound nice. Even can make it completely different to rest of the strings.I have TC RH 450, RS 212 and sound greate for kind of jazzy think and EQ is Always FLAT. So I always take my amp with me just to make sure I sound nice. Personally for me I don't miss low B at all. if I need to than I drop E t Eb or D if you need to do it often they do hipshot D tuner which is good thing to consider. This tuning is completely different and make you play different. Benefits: Huge! you can play chords nicely and easy, bas becomes more melodic.... I personally play bass different than before. Helped me to improve. Technically and theoretical stuff, I sometimes compose Bass, harmony and melodies much easier... So it might there is lot of problems but they are minor. So GO FOR IT. i would just change and if there are gonna be problems just deal with them and trust me bass will take it for sure easy. Set the action and trust rod if you need to ( the action needs to be as low as possible for this tuning , at least personally for me. If you like MG technique you would need to do that to) Good luck and have fun with it -
He is cool, he is my friend we met in wedding of my friend very talented bass player in 2009 he won contest of best European bass player under 35 and he was 19 I think at that time he is so good we jammed at the wedding amazing player.

I think ZOOM 708 is good. I agree that it is technical in beginning but good to mess around. Otherwise get the single pedals from boss or even I recommend spend some money in getting something better as effects can sound crap. TC electronic is good for bass effects so is Markbass. the think is that what parameters you deal with in zoom you also deal in single unit effects. I recommend to check out some videos google, youtube videos there are people that explain effects well. pub rock stuff you need: compressor, maybe chorus, wah? there are option of auto-wah ,distortion maybe even couple of them one for cleaner and one for wetter signal. if you want to be more experimental get MOOG effects but they cost I have some they are super amazing. I even recommend check out bass player using effect in song if you want specifically sound like someone is easier to find what you want. Or go to Music store tell them to show you effects and sit down with bass and spend some time before you buy one. when you decide buy one there or look up for it in internet. ( downside of doing it separately it cost more.. but I personally do not look at money getting better sound if I have some money but I am musician) I actually am selling Roland V-bass older model for £200 it is easy to set up good multi effect with big display and if you get into it It is also midi for bass £220 with cables and roland gig bag I can give you lesson in using it so you understand better. there are all of those effects and much more in it check out some videos on youtube

Without wanting to be negative about other players, I feel that many players are negative about using effects on bass. I have quite big pedal board, many times my bands comment on it but I don't spend much on my beers so I have good quality and variety of sounds. I am very careful with it and not overusing it, choosing moments for them ( I hope, or that is what I think). they have comments on that allot but when I do something bandmates say: : " yes that sounds really nice"and 90% of music we play are ideas of mine messing around with effects sound and rifs, so I think bass is getting different roles and it is evolving and so are the effects specially for bass. I feel that just some people do not have respect for bass players many times they are in same roots sounding same as they idols or trying to sound like them forgetting what is to be musician and everyone is. There is loots of music to be created and if you want to have innovative and unique sound, I use effect. I say bass big yes using effects but be careful in using it ,we are bassists and effects needs to make your music better. you cant use effect all the time just because you have it.
