Time to try fretless or a 5-str me thinks
-
Hi all Just received this absolutely stunning bass, but seeing that my Modulus gets no attention, I am putting it up tentatively for sale or trade - will be withdrawn if the Modulus sells, I only need one fretless. This is a world-class bass with the sweetest neck and tone, plays effortlessly. All info on the previous FS thread here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/256898-sold-us-lakland-darryl-jones-fretless-bass/ The bass is quite jaw-dropping in the flesh and in excellent condition, just a few minor dings on the underside of the body and at the top of the headstock. Shipping with UPS to EU included, will ship in the original Mono soft/rigid case and well packaged. As for trades (part or straight), I'll just mention a few items in the forum that recently grabbed my attention, to give you an idea: Roscoe Century Standard, Alembic MK, Shuker Two Custom, MTD AG, Ken Smith, Mayones Pi or BE, FBass BN4.. You get the idea. No P basses, no relics please.
Do you understand that human beings are diverse in their needs and wants?
really? 😳
Why not?
Because it is not the intention - you can't clearly see what she's doing, nothing is explained etc etc. Therefore it is as instructional as watching any other player doing his/her thing. It is a showcase, my original point being that I find these videos of little significance as such. But of course political correctness prevails so anything is worth admiring, or so it would seem. If you don't agree, then you MUST be a frustrated bedroom bassist or an idiot that has no social life etc. All because you didn't have the *guts* to dress sexy and do a bass karaoke for the world to see. Ok then! 😊
So what's the diffence between someone performing or playing a song on you tube, and playing the same song at a gig..... viewers or an audience...its the same thing. Unless its the the original song writer playing it, it's always going to be someone else trying to re-create the original as best they can. Whether you are male female, old or young, you are basically saying..."look what I can do... And I love it.." So all you folks who think its not right to show others what you can do, what is it that you do at gigs then...hide behind the drummer ? One of the key things about music, is the sense of achievement at having learnt something, and then wanting to share, or show this to other people. Scott Devine is the bass player I have learnt more off than any one on You Tube, as have thousands of others...this is because the signs over his door say 'lessons' or 'learn.' If this girl had used a similar title, would she still be the cause of such debate. For all the folks who are saying its nothing special, remember there are hundreds of players who are no where near this skill level yet, and at some stage in the past, none of us were. If I was trying to learn this song, I would be glad it was available.
I won't argue with you all given that this is seen as a form of achievement, but I would have never thought of this kind of video as 'instructional'. Oh well - seems I should go back to my bedroom then...😊
Which is why I hate Twitter and Facebook et al with a passion. It's a total waste of time... in a way that Basschat is not, of course.
Indeed. Which probably means I am getting old.
Don't get it Mr Monk.... What's the point in sheet music then...or did Rogers and Hammerstein, Wagner etc just have it printed as a rough guide for us to create our own masterpieces. Surely, what people do on you tube or whatever today,is the equivalent of a Vicrorian knees up round the piano with a few chums 150 years ago. Dress up a bit and show how good you are....what's the difference...
Possibly... But back then you didn't get to see the original - whereas now you probably have a dozen videos showing exactly that. It's of course absoutely ok for practicing or just for kicks - but do you really have to tape and showcase it? For me, it just falls into the realm of 'hey look I can do it note by note' which begs the question 'who cares, really'. What's next? Being a pointless exercise, devoid of any creativity or imagination, I am not surprised those with attractive women (or men) get ten times more visits. If the display of musicianship is repeating a Jamiroquai bass line (not just a line, mind, the whole track!), then something's wrong imo. Must be me.
Why bother posting a vid of 'anyone' playing along note for note with a backing track?
Or better, why bother recording yourself doing that? I'd find it somewhat interesting if people would come up with an alternative bass line or something. Until then, I find this utterly pointless, male, female, whatever. I suspect though that some players want to display their looks along with their skills, in which case I think criticism is to be expected. Sign of the times I guess. Do they really check on the number of views? Is that the new definition of musical relevance?

It would be interesting if someone would study tunings of great recordings of the past - perhaps the 'hit' or 'artistic' factor would be systematically related to specific frequencies because people would 'feel better' listening to that... It would be purely circumstantial I guess. I'm thinking old pianos in specific recording studios, etc... I'm probably just talking nonsense here... -
Sold a pedal to Chris, lightning fast payment, top basschatter - thanks!!

Very true. It has also been reported that a similar effect was recenty achieved by Lady Gaga, but the overtones in question were withdrawn from itunes by Obama's office and replaced by a complimentary U2 record. She was last seen in the outskirts of Heidelberg, so not all is lost. -

That's exactly what happened, or so I have been told
