1. Please delete, duplicate post
2. Great basses - care to share pics of the back?
3. I like it a lot, wonderful. I remember seeing her the first time and thinking 'well small hands are no longer an excuse'...
4. Up Status spec sheet says it's 'blue', in the flesh it looks like emerald green - must be the blue combined with yellow-ish alder...
5. I have one USA Sterling and from what I read the EQ is voiced differently compared to a Stingray. Not sure if the Classic Sterling retains the old Sterling eq voicing (it has one knob less and no blade switch...)
6. The fact that someone had to write this explains our misery. It should have been obvious long ago. I'm sure of those mentioned Flea was the one having more success with girls btw?
7. One time being the case is all it takes for chronic GAS
8.
I agree, that's GAS for you. Or conspicuous consumption if you want to call it that. I'm sure it's the same for shoes, clothes, cars, houses, cuddly meerkats, servants... you name it. Though in my experience the joy of a new purchase is relatively short-lived. However, when I get my shiny new high-end USA or Czech Spector, I'm sure I'll be happy forever... Or maybe not. Needless consumption is the fuel of capitalism, and I'm just as guilty as anyone of indulging in it.
We are all in the same boat... I think GAS is the mental projection of 'the wonders I'd be able to play if only...'. Which at least, compared to other forms of consumption, implies a creative spark. So we can indulge ourselves. 😊
9. Very true as well. The J and P 'high end' copy world is surely stuff for a whole other thread! 😃
10.
There's a lot more to playing bass in a band than root/fifths, though they have their place. You mean that it makes sens to buy a 10K Fodera purely for playing solo?
I'd say jazz soloists are their target market, yes, with all their singlecut stuff etc. In a band context that requires solid no frills playing I don't see how a Fodera can beat the tried and tested J or P or MM, honestly. Note articulation up the dusty end is a non-issue. Mind, you can also spend a lot of money on such basses - but typically less than 5000k... I might be wrong though.
11. I have one of these and the neck is superb. It shows the same colour change, nothing wrong with that. Glwts
12.
That's what I did. It basically reinforces my view that the bass is not a solo instrument...
You guys mean that it makes sense to buy a 10k Fodera to play root-5ths? This is no more or less fireworks than any other virtuoso playing too many notes... Satriani or Vai anyone? I actually liked that he kept the groove underneath. Foderas are fancy stuff, supported by a 'premium' marketing strategy. If you can afford them, and you like them, good for you. But I don't think one can reasonably argue about build quality or craftmanship or costs - it only goes that far as an argument. Many many luthiers offer the same level of care or more at a fraction of the price and surely their figures make sense business-wise. Playability depends on your hands, technique, etc. To answer the OP, Foderas are worth it if you find them to be the ideal bass for you - but chances are that they're not. So many basses out there. Just my opinion anyway.
13. Absolutely. I blame it on neck profile, string spacing, radius, etc., but I also think there may be an intangible factor, a 'feel' that yields new licks and ideas. I'd go as far as saying that even the colour scheme can make you play differently. And the best is that: a) it seems to happen independently of how 'high end'/expensive the axe is; it (sometimes) changes with time - an uninspiring bass/guitar can be a nice surprise when you get back to it after a while, and vice versa... For me, this is a major driving force for GAS... Of course some may argue that you're just a slightly different person every day...
14. Funky bass
15. Up... Trade offers welcome To avoid confusion: I have been the first owner, bought directly from Status a few years back
16. Touch of evil stuff. Like it, though it seems the album version is 7 min long... Don't know if that's taking it too far. Visconti is generally good.
17. I tried a Fodera once and it was ok, a good bass. Exactly like the Wooten video. Outstanding player, but the bass leaves me a a bit cold, honestly. Nice woods, but I prefer the original tone on 'Let's work' (a Fender jazz?) actually. The Fodera 'mystique' is completely lost on me, I'm afraid. There's even people trading Foderas only for other Foderas. At those prices, even second hand, I doubt i will ever have the chance to change my mind...
18. Up it goes... I will include an unopened set of double ball strings. Btw, the Kingbass allows for the fastest, most painless string changes ever, less than 3 min...
19. Bought a bass from Dennis - smooth transaction, very friendly guy, keeping me informed at every step of the way . He even sent the bass before payment was cleared on his end! I highly recommend Dennis and would not hesitate to deal with him again. Thanks Dennis!
20. Pity you're not open to trades... Beautiful!
21. Tempted to offer my KB as px... Any hints on the tone? I tried a Ritter years ago and it was nice but nothing to write home about considering the price... That one had triplebuckers or something like that though
