M3s and M7s are wonderful basses.

Hi I couldn't resist to buy this due to amazing value for money... But the neck is too wide (PRS-like) for me so up for grabs! it is essentially a PRS type guitar, with top-level craftmanship and components. DiMarzio pickups (coil-tappable), Schaller hardware. Impeccable build quality. Full info here: https://www.musicstore.de/en_DE/EUR/Fame-Forum-III-Progressive-Limited-Transparent-Emerald-Green-Chrome-Hardware/art-GIT0032208-000 It is pretty much mint, except for a ding at the headstock, pictured below. The guitar came without a case but will be securely packaged and shipped with UPS. Cheers! Just to clarify: obviously everyone knows Prince's tele always had a Hohner logo. This is an as exact as possible replica (with modern appointments) issued by the original Japanese manufacturers, under their brand HS Anderson. The Max Store link offers more info: Walnut / ash body, highly-figured maple top and bottom, and top and back binding, and super-shiny polyurethane lacquer finish, all exude a luxurious image that is nicely offset by a leopard-print pickguard very similar to the original (H.S. Anderson says the material’s supplier is no longer around and that the new version warps less). The Mad Cat reissue is a faithful rendition of the classic with a more up-market glow. The Japanese-built Mad Cat is more-or-less impeccably crafted throughout. The all-maple neck with 21 vintage medium frets, 9.4″ radius, bone nut, Gotoh SG360 tuners, Even though it’s a T-style guitar, the Mad Cat is outfitted with S1 and S3 model Bill Lawrence USA Strat pickups. Lawrence designed these for Stevie Ray Vaughan, and they replace the original’s Keiyo pickups. The Lawrence pickups are a nice choice that sound very warm, if not especially loud. The medium C profile has a familiar vintage feel that’s very comfortable. The differences with the previous model are: Nicer pick guard material. Better pickups (rounder fuller sound) Bindings are dark brown Neck radius is 9,5 (more accessible) Vintage Correct Re-issue of the original 1970. Prince will probably always be most associated with his H.S. Anderson-designed Hohner T-style that he used on albums like Purple Rain, 1999, and Musicology. Prince’s Hohner is a Japanese version of the H.S. Anderson Mad Cat, which was released in 1973 by the Morris company. The über-rare originals (there were only a little more than 500 produced) fetch top dollar whenever they pop up. This reissue is the best version ever produced.

Anybody played an Alembic Essence...........?
juliusmonk replied to Chewie's topic in General Discussion
Agree with previous posters - nothing to write home about. Once past the Alembic mythology effect, it's pretty much just another bass. A Sire M3 is much better in my opinion, much lighter and they're like 200-250 quid new? -

Whatever way you look at it, it requires gorilla's arms me thinks.

I for one am not overly keen on the East preamps, despite widespread praise. I found them always a bit noisy. Then again, my set up is very sensitive to noise - can't stand non-shielded Laklands, for example (not even USA ones). I prefer the Bartolini or Glockenlang preamps. So maybe it's just not for you. The boost-only bass is a usual mistake - turn it down all the way to start with. I find East preamps work better with very dull-sounding basses. Your 75 jazz shouldn't be. It will never make any MM sounds, regardless.

If you want mwah you may have to pay attention to the pickup position (closer to the bridge) and the electronics - especially the mids eq. But each player has also a preference for ergonomics, neck profile, etc. I had a Zon that was very nice, however had also a Mayones that (unexpectedly) had more mwah. It was heavy though. I developed over time a dislike for graphite 'touch' on the neck. Pedullas tend to have wide fingerboards too, which I find daunting on fretless. I also had a remington steele and the ergonomics were awfui for me. One thing I've learned is that what works for me in fretted doesn't necessarily apply to fretless - I have to approach those as a completely different instrument.

Can you get a slap type sound without slapping?
juliusmonk replied to lownote's topic in General Discussion
Digging in works for 'popping', not so much for 'slapping' (i.e. the thumb thing). But you can do what Doug Wimbish does, which is slapping the strings with your index finger straight on top of the fretboard - that gets a very similar sound, and you keep the hand more in the fingerstyle position. -
