Aged bass parts......are they available in the uk?
pobrien_ie replied to surfguy13's topic in Bass Guitars
A few ebay shops specialize is aged new parts. Just put aged into the search bar along with the part type. They usually seem to be stupidly expensive though, so the diy route might be best! -
Pics when you get it.
Should have mentioned it's a body I bought. It's for an upcoming assembly project. Pics will follow!
-
I just went for it anyway and won the auction, so now eagerly awaiting to see what it looks like in the flesh!
-
Thanks for advice. Auction ends over the weekend so time isn't on my side! Might just take the risk. The nitro finish is the real attraction for me to be honest and just hoped the finish wouldn't ruin the vintage vibe.
Depends what made the finish, normal poly finish would be harder to keep matt than go gloss thru' use. On poly necks & gun stocks I've found daily polishing with WD40 can give a high gloss finish, but it takes a fair few goes at it.
The finish is nitro. It's a Highway One P Bass, in what's advertised as flat black. I usually have no problem buying online, just a bit more cautious with this one.
-
I'm goin for the vintage look though. Is it a bit on the modern side?
-
Hi all. Does anybody have experience with a factory finish matte black? Can it be brought up to look like a "normal" finish? Eyeing a nice bass online and just can't make my mind up and the clock is ticking!

Hi, I'd be interested in the chord chart too, if that's ok? -
Who was the bass player on Jackson 5's I'll Be There?
The only other name I can throw in would be the late Bob Babbit.
Can't find anything to suggest Babbit either. What surprises me about this is, in IMO, it's such a great bassline, you'd imagine people (well..ahem...certain people anyway) would be queuing up take the credit! -
Carol Kaye
It's not on her list of credits on her website, credible and all as that is (sense my sarcasm and look at my avatar )....so nope, don't think it was her on that occasion either!! -

For my own sanity I'm going to bump this just the once and see how I get on. It wasn't Jamerson, Felder or a Jackson. Please let this not be the first query I've had that BC couldn't answer -
I always like playing interesting songs that I normally wouldn't listen to! Broadens the mind I suppose... Fingers crossed for you
Ooops!
well I can hardly blame you for my poor decision!

Definitely of its time, but still cool IMO. Thanks for posting this.... I just sold my fretless 1 hour ago

Thought its about time I loaded a video

The great man himself mainly used one finger too! If it's good enough for Jamerson... But seriously, that was an enjoyable video. From someone who exclusively used a pick up until a couple of years ago and who now rarely uses one, I can tell you that playing with two fingers will come naturally in time. Keep up the good work! -
Great performance alright, but it's a bit like the Dave Grohl show though isn't it? He seems to be doing all the lead as well. Makes me wonder why Pat Smear was brought back in.
-
Yep! Used to be into them a lot in the early days, but not so much now. IMO still a great live band!
-
As above, I say go for the Entwhistle stoney faced expression!!
-
I saw one for sale recently and was intrigued so I looked them up. The comments above pretty much describe them. The interesting thing I read is that they're not considered collectors items, despite the limited run, and that they actually fetch less than a standard US Jazz.

Jermaine did indeed play bass, but not in the studio, at least not in the Motown days. -
By way of background..... at the start of the year, on New Year’s Eve actually, while playing some monotonous classic rock song at a pub gig, in my head I made a resolution to learn all the classic bass lines. I’d actually planned to learn 365 or one per day in 2012, but due to that being a mammoth task for me and the pressures of life etc., I’m only at around the 100 mark. Anyway, I’ve been a little OCD about this and have put all the details on to a spreadsheet to track my progress I’ve managed to find the details of the bass players on almost all of the songs I’ve learnt, but can’t find anything on who played this. Jamerson’s name is bandied around a bit, but it’s not on any of his fan websites or discographies, so I’ve pretty much ruled him out. Wilton Felder’s name is also mentioned, as he played on I Want You Back and ABC, but most evidence I find suggests it’s not him. I think it’s such a great understated bass line, so to save me from going mad, does anyone have any information on this?

Spec Query: Fender 50th Anniversary Precision MIJ
pobrien_ie replied to pobrien_ie's topic in General Discussion
Yep, I've got a 60th which WAS standard when I got it
I'd be just buying this for a project really so it wouldn't be standard when I'm finished either Just had a look on the Fender Japan site - is there such thing as a standard MIJ P Bass currently on sale now, or they all based on either the 57, 62 or 70 P Bass? -
Spec Query: Fender 50th Anniversary Precision MIJ
pobrien_ie replied to pobrien_ie's topic in General Discussion
Am I right in thinking that the actual "50th anniversary edition" came with a flamed top in sunburst and gold hardware? I seem to remember looking it up a few years ago as one came on ebay. Anything else in standard colour with the stamp on the headstock just meant that it was made in the year of Fenders 50th anniversary and wasn't different in anyway. The same happened with the 60th anniversary. Mine is a 60th anniversary in Blizzard Pearl (the only colour they did the mexican anniversary model in) and it has a special neck plate. There were lots of other MIM and MIA Fender basses with a 60th anniversary stamp on the headstock, but these were in fact just standard models made in that year. http://www.stratcoll...hcollection.gif
You're dead right. The bass is advertised as 50th anniversary edition, but apart from that stamp on the back of the headstock it's a stock 1996 MIJ P bass. Thanks for clearing that up, I had just found similar information from a google search So back to the bass itself, are they most likely basswood with Japanese pickups and a standard 1.625 nut width?
