From my perspective, fanned frets are fairly easy to get to grips with except if playing up at the dusty end. I can't really get overly comfortable with the angle of the frets up there. Maybe it's just me? I play a Dingwall Z3 btw.
Yep, but the price for a precision is outrageous if bought new. I do however, see exactly where you're coming from Reggae. I own a couple of CS basses and have played quite a few others. I have to say, I've not personally found a duff one out there.
