1. yes Rockbox is awesome. i've replaced the proprietary firmware on my Sansa with Rockbox. it's generally much better and i've noticed longer battery life.
2. i've never contacted them for any problems, but i've sent them generic queries. i usually get an email back within the next 2-3 days.
3. when playing a 5-string E, there will be some sympathetic resonance of the B string (as with all the other strings) hence some of the energy of the ringing E string lost to the B. it's not anything significantly audible though so just play however many strings you want and be happy.
4. these do look awesome, with loads of potential. much more than Axe-fx, 11R, or Pod HD. i just wish they'd make it rack-mountable. that shape is so weird.
5. STATUS: AVAILABLE! i'm selling my guitar combo to raise funds to upgrade my bass amp. it includes the footswitch, is in absolutely mint condition and sounds fantastic! it's got an effects loop and an external speaker jack. there's three channels with separate EQ controls for two of them. it can do pristine sparkly cleans, rocky crunch, and has more than enough gain to play metal! it's been used in jams but never gigged, though it has plenty of power to hold up for it. selling for [s]£180[/s] £160. i bought it new for £280 so knocking a fair bit off. collection only, since it's heavy! located in Birmingham.
6. i have one and i think it's pretty cool and sounds pretty good for a silent practice solution. although i don't like distortion on it, i only play with it all clean. i don't hear any fart at all. i play through a pair of Sennheiser HD-215 headphones. i have the guitar one too for practising guitar. they both make my smaller the headphones far and distort. these things are very dependent on what you listen to them through. they also seem to distort a bit when the batteries' voltage drops.
7.
That's what slap is, aint it?
yeah i suppose. slap just doesn't do it for me when played on a 6-string acoustic.
8. hmm. i just see some fast percussion and the occasional chord/lick. i'm sure he's a decent player otherwise though, if he can play that.
9. i only ever encode to Ogg Vorbis for lossy and FLAC for lossless since both of those codecs are open source. MP3 is a big no-no: it's patent encumbered and proprietary. not to mention 19 years old and inferior. there's also Musepack which has a better algorithm for high-bitrate files. anyway, for players i use Banshee to play my music. it plays everything i throw at it. http://banshee.fm/ it has a build-in ripper too (i think) but i use Sound Juicer to rip CDs.
10. this is what i've found with music magazines (or most magazines in general). they are fantastic for new players for gaining insight in the bass world, or guitar world, or whatever the magazine's topic is. but after that, they just become more of the same and their value to the reader goes down. when i first picked up the bass, i picked up a copy of BGM with the intention of getting myself familiar with bass and it certainly did. would i buy a subscription or pick it up regularly? no. i don't see how that's useful. as for reviews of expensive things - this is consumerism we live in. they have to promote that stuff so the masses will lust after it and keep the wheel turning.
11. i buy all my new gear from thomann. never once had a problem. but no, i'm not ordering anything right now.
12.
Hi. is this still for sale please?
yep
13.
I'll play in any tuning as long as it doesn't have "drop" in front of it. I don't like farking with the intervals between my strings. But mainly either E standard or B standard is my preferred.
aye, same here.
14. hej hej o välkommen!
15. could try to (very) sparingly use some brown shoe-polish.
16. if you're willing to dual-boot with Linux, Ardour is a great DAW http://ardour.org/
17. scour the net for a crash course on electronics relating to amplifiers, i'm sure there's some out there. then if you're an engineering nerd like me you'll come to appreciate good amplifier design, not just for the tubes. though for purely practical reasons, you can just continue playing through the PA as it gets the job done. it might be a good idea to own a cheap-but-powerful amp though, if you come by a gig that doesn't have a PA.
18. bump! reduced to £60.
19. anyone? i sent ESP two emails but to date they haven't replied :\
20. i've known Paypal/eBay to be corrupted from their actions against Wikileaks, but that's is just daft.
21. wow thanks for so many replies. i'll have to look into all these other suggestions too. i'll be pondering on these for some time, and while i gather the funds. with the EBS and Glockenklang cabs, i'm starting to wonder if Glock may have better design and construction that the EBS. though they're similarly priced the Glock uses a conventional speaker, whereas the EBS uses a neo magnet which will likely eat a good portion of the asking price of the cab. i don't think weight is the biggest issue with 112 cabs as they're fairly manageable anyway. on the other hand if a cab is light as a feather, it'd be pretty cool to be able to walk effortlessly to the drummer's place with bass on my back, amp in one hand, and cab in the other.
It's worth buying what you really like and then forgetting about it as it works out cheaper
yes that's what i'm going for. i've found through my guitar adventures that having semi-decent gear pays off in the long run, keeping the GAS away, and potentially better resale value. as a (currently) hobby bassist i intend for this setup to be a keeper.
